It may make me a bad Crew fan, or Nordecke Leader/Elite, to admit that I'm tired of the outrage culture that's permeated the fanbase but so be it. I'd much rather spend my energy doing work rather than being pissed about the shortcomings of other people. The yelling and being big mad is all so wasteful. We, the Nordecke section and organization, have too many internal issues that need resolved to be devoting cycles to the FO's screwups. Especially ones we can't influence anyway. The number one thing preventing the Nordecke from being the best Supporters Section this side of LAFC is the members of and ticketholders in the Nordecke. The phrase shouldn't be "no one hates us like we hate us" it should be "no one holds us back like we hold us back."
Will there still be a concourse in those corners behind the mini suites or is the concourse no longer circumnavigable?
I think so, yes. Details are pretty sparse at this point, but that's what the Business First article said.
I’d be happy to have a beer with you over this sometime, because I’m really not trying to start a fight when I say this. But, the only reason I have any idea this is happening is because I read your posting about it on Twitter. You were the one I saw refer to it as a slap in the face. So I’m not sure why your outrage meter is suddenly outraged at the outrage.
Regarding the new premium spaces. If they continually sell, isn't that a good thing? I'm not quite sure how that's some sort of bad thing. It's not like the general public was allowed up into the Decke terraces every game. The writing has been on the wall there for some time. And as said, if they have a market for people who are willing to pay $250 or whatever per ticket, they'd be foolish not to cater to that group. Regarding the Nordecke being the most affordable section. It should be. The vast majority of us don't get any sort of seat, we have to deal with smoke, flags, idiots who throw beers, etc. But with that said...would it kill their bottom line to make the upper south the same exact price? Or, if they must make it more expensive, is $5 more for a proper seat in a reserved location so awful? Regarding supporter culture. It matters to a degree. Something the exact opposite, say, OSU basketball has an awful experience. The music is 99% canned...hardly any school songs via the band. The audience participation bits are ridiculous/generic things like "turn your cellphones to flashlight mode" or other nonsense that isn't unique to the school. Supporters culture is sort of what separates soccer from other sports. We need it at LDC. Is it everything? No, but it's one piece of the overall puzzle.
And if you’re up for a third, I’d like to join you. I’m not sure that LaMacchia’s outrage meter is “suddenly” outraged; I’d suspect it’s been building for awhile and this was a point of release.
It'd suck if someone wanted in 129 or so and that NE corner wasn't open and also if thousands needed to quickly exit and they couldn't do so via the NW exits. (Think emergency situations.) AFAIK, there's four ways in/out. The NW gate by the Circle of Honor The north gate behind the stairs going up to the lower/upper deckes The two gates at the south corners. If the NE corner was closed off, it'd seem to be a potential violation of fire code.
The slap in the face was the lack of communication about the change from the FO. The outrage I'm referring to is all of the bickering by Crew fans about something that doesn't really impact very many of us (except Hang). People just want to be pissed off all the time and that's so unproductive. We have so many better things to spend time on, as a fanbase.
Chris, why do you feel the FO needs to discuss these things with the supporters group? I’m not trying to be a jackass, but I don’t know why the supporters would be involved in stadium upgrades. Unless the changes reduce the size of the Nordecke or otherwise change the activities of the group.
This is a great question, thank you for asking rather than just making assumptions. You see, the Lower Terrace is being converted to Premium Seating and the Nordecke hangs a significant amount of banners from the railing (rail banners) from the Lower Terrace. We had questions about the impact to those banners, what would happen if a premium ticketholder complained about those banners, and security of those banners. We also have concerns about the possibility of opposing teams' fans being located directly above - overhead - the Nordecke. There are some safety concerns here that we would like to discuss on behalf of our members and ticketholders. There was also a question, created by bad renders, about the overhead tifo rigging system. This has been addressed, though, and our question answered. Additionally, if the Nordecke had our questions and concerns addressed ahead of the Biz First article dropping, we'd have been more than happy to answer the questions and speak to the concerns of the rest of the fanbase. We're interested in being good partners, all. So, it's not that the Nordecke feels we need to be consulted on stadium upgrades or other changes - it's their house they can do what they want. But this particular change could have impacted the activities of the group and we feel that a conversation prior to any announcement would have been prudent and an example of good partnership.
Thank you for the response. I figured the banners were an issue, had no idea about the rigging for the larger tifos.
We pretty much 90% agree. Might wanna check your cheerios for yellow milk lol. Edit: It was the FO that put the Crew name on the table to bring it back, not the supporters. They’d already decided to offer that. So there were pretty much no negotiations at the supposed meeting for negotiations. FO said the new logo is here to stay, get fvkt.
I am not sure how my flippant joking led to this response, but I must say I would gladly co-author this post. Well said.
I just used your post as a jumping off point. What stanger has said in the past is right, sometimes I just like to hear myself talk.
I agree with this but venturing into politics is pretty much the opposite of unifying. Amidst the banners supporting the team and players are several that are pretty political.
I'm pretty sure one of the areas they're worried about retaining is where the Antifa flag is always hung. Love them or hate them, don't care, but nobody with an honest bone in their body would call that "unifying" Kind of like that huge "we dissent" banner they displayed after the ruling on Roe; call it what you will but it's a divisive issue. If you feel that you simply must display something like that, please go ahead. Just don't come around pretending its the same as singing Kumbaya. Nordecke needs to clean their own house before lecturing anyone else.
