Try Grant Wahl's "Masters of Modern Soccer," James Montaque's "1312: Among the Ultras," and Jonathan Wilson's "Angel with Dirt Faces"

I already have and read Wilson's "Angels With Dirty Faces", which was excellent. Thanks for the other two books! I added both of them to my Amazon Wishlist! Happy Labor Day!

Just added Jonathan Wilson's The Names Long Ago to my Amazon wishlist. It's about Hungarian football.

    A couple of other suggestions:
Sid Lowe "Fear and Loathing in La Liga"
    Raphael Honigstein "Da Reboot"
Franklin Foer "How Soccer Explains the World"

I'm currently reading Adam Crafton's "From Guernicia to Guardiola." It a good read as well.

    Hello.

This is for anyone interested in football in England ‘before the Premier League’.

I am a lifelong English football fan and recently finished my first book, a history of the game in England from the late 1950s until 1992 and the creation of the Premier League. It looks at the main factors that led to the transformation of English football, and includes interviews with several ex-professionals who played in the Football League during that time.

It is available from my blog at https://the1888letter.com/book-before-the-premier-league/ - please contact me if you are looking to buy a copy from outside the UK, details are on the blog.

    Thank you for reading.

    Paul.

I'm reading Woody and Nord again. The friendship between our leader Gareth Southgate and Andy Woodgate. What a wonderful book. I read it years ago and it's still as enjoyable now as when it first came out. I can recommend it. Good to read about the Cobblers 2 Wembley appearances in 97 and 98 when we took over 40,000 there.

Thanks Paul W ... I'll have to look for it.

I'm reading a book on soccer analytics called "Football Hackers" by Christoph Biermann. This is an English version of a book he'd originally written in German. A pretty in-depth look at various analytics and different companies/sporting directors that use them.

I Believe That We Will Win about US soccer and its quest to win the men's World Cup. I'm currently blanking on the author. It was out of stock on Amazon, though.

I just added to my Amazon Wishlist a book called A Tournament Frozen In Time about the late, great European Cup Winner's Cup. The author is Steven Scragg, who has several other soccer books.

My book on mental health in football, Match Fit, is out today. You can grab a copy from Amazon here. Hardback is currently only available in the UK but there is an eBook option and I believe the hardback will reach the US eventually: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Match-Fit-E.../dp/1801504687

Match Fit was inspired by a desire to raise awareness of mental health through football. There are 13 chapters, each on a different topic, including everything from the unique pressures on Premier League footballers to those who play football socially to benefit their mental health. I've written about some of the book's key influences on my website:

    Retired (Alan Gernon): https://www.johnnielowery.co.uk/post...by-alan-gernon
    Soccology (Kevin George): https://www.johnnielowery.co.uk/post...y-kevin-george
    Recovering (Richie Sadlier): https://www.johnnielowery.co.uk/post...richie-sadlier
State of Play (Michael Calvin): https://www.johnnielowery.co.uk/post...michael-calvin

I've also appeared on a couple of podcasts in which I talk about the book, so check those out if you want to learn any more:

    https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/total-football-mentality-podcast/id1675723730?i=1000625906630

Last thing to mention - 15% of the profits from the book go to London-based mental health awareness and suicide prevention charity Beder.
