Reminds me of David Bentley. Looked a bright prospect at Arsenal, then Blackburn, had some decent moments with us, but another one who went to pot after signing the big money contract.

He only cost five mil, though.

I think he's comparable to Ozil. Their careers took off and are declining similarly, but Ozil enjoyed a couple of more heights and a period of more sustained success.

Ozil's career only went off the boil when he criticized the Chinese treatment of the Uyghurs and Arsenal dropped him to appease the Chinese media. He'd already won everything by then and was at the tail end of his career.

I think there is some truth to that, but his decline was very evident during the 2018 World Cup.

Sheffield Wednesday beat Newcastle 2-1 yesterday at Hillsborough in the Cup. Mags were profligate in front of goal, but by all accounts (including Newcastle) it was a deserved victory. I would've loved it, loved it! [/keggy] to have been at Hillsborough for that one.

The FA Cup is so much better than the afterthough it's become treated as in the Permier League era.

4th round draw coming up. Spurs at Hillsborough would get me checking airfares (but I doubt I could get off work). Actually, a nice, easy home draw would be nice. It ain't Europe - we don't need any 'glory ties' at this juncture. Just get through.

I love the FA Cup, me. COYS!

We're away to PNE. Wednesday will be hosting Fleetwood Town. We'll both be favorites, of course. Maybe we can get each other in round 5.*

*with the obligatory 'should we get through' added. No point agitating the footy gods.

And League2 Stevenage get two late goals (88' and 90') to dump Aston Villa from the Cup 1-2 at Villa Park. Great stuff.

So Chelsea are out (hammered by Citeh today), and City have drawn (what will surely be) Arsenal in the 4th round. So one of those two will be gone, as well. Newcastle are obviously gone. Liverpool will go to Brighton if they're about to win their replay v Wolves. ManU have the relatively easy draw of Reading at Old Trafford.

All-in-all, a rather good draw for us. We're looking good for this. I'd hugely love for us to win the FA Cup. I mean, it would be absolutely brilliant to me, however indifferent the Prem/CL-lovers may be. COYS!!

... obviously, we'll go out in the semis.

IMO, their purchase of Jesus changed the dynamic of the team. Prior, they were just a threat on goal. With him, they became a threat to score. Which, fundamentally, changed how other teams played against him. I hope there is a failure this Sunday.

Oh, and since I'm talking about London...Felix got redded on his debut with London Blue and they lost to Fulham.

It’s probably a tad unfair to judge Potter with the squad he inherited, but the shine has really come off hasn’t it?

I read he gets £50m if sacked.

Watching Chelsemen fall apart in slow motion is deeply amusing.

Felix actually looked their best player until he got sent off. He doesn't really fit into Simeone's shithousery style at Atleti.

The officiating is so inconsistent - Chalabah actually made a worse challenge in the first half and only got a yellow.

Weird goal for Fernandes in the Utd Vs Citeh game. Rashford was offside but basically shielded the ball until Fernandes, who wasn't offside, was able to run onto it and score.

The inconsistent implementation of VAR is so ass I barely know where to start.

I wonder if Klopp makes it to the end of the season and if Brighton finish above Chelsea.

2 losses straight for City, so they will pound us next game. At least it means they will stay on Arsenal's heels.

Brighton look amazing. Looking good for Europe.

Chelsemen have signed that Mudryk fellow Arsenal were, and on an 8 &a half year contract. Not sure why the contract is so long. Is that a thing the yank owner is bringing over from US sports?

After beating City on Saturday (although thanks to a bunk offside decision), United through away 2 points at Palace and miss a chance to go second.

Any day now Arsenal will come crashing back down. Any day …

and of course Trossard was key in the buildup to their game winner.

They remind me of Leicester in '16, though it wouldn't be nearly as big a shock, and they play nicer stuff than Leicester did. Folks seem more surprised by the inconsistencies and relative weakness of the favorites, but the fact is that the leaders have been the best team in the League by some stretch. Others have 'better' players ... but no one looks (no one is) a better team. Folks will keep saying, "can they really do it?", until it's put to bed, but I really don't see any reason to suspect that they won't.

Ok, they have to play City twice, so the numbers are there. But there's no reason to presume that City beat them twice. Frankly, Arsenal are better.

I've posted a lot of bitter and twisted footy-related shit here over the last few months, with nothing more unpleasant to belch up than this. But there you have it. The truth can hurt. But we're Spurs ... we know that.

You make some lucid and thoughtful points, but I'm still not having it, I think they'll still blow it a la Newcastle 1995-96.

Not a bad weekend so far, United and Newcastle drop points ahead of us, and Brighton, Brentford, Liverpool and Chelsea drop points behind us.

Still amazed that we are 5th considering how shite we've been. But that could change tomorrow.

    Obviously I hope you're right.

But the fact that they've lost Jesus and haven't missed a beat suggests that there's substance there. Of course, the way they folded to us and Newcastle last Spring hinted at potential character issues, but that's not much to hang my hopes on. We'll find out soon enough.

The way they pounded United 'til they got their winner, though ... they look like champions to me. But again, I'm pulling for your scenario.

Lampard's gone. I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did.
Everton need an Allardyce-type to keep them up.

I agree. We have looked the best by optics and metrics. We also have fight for once. We have made comebacks and never say die until 90. That Last bit is what convinced me. Leicester in some sense were good enough but won in a year where everyone was awful hence their total points were less than the usual 90. Not taking anything away though from them. Football needed that too. Just like how it does for us this year.
