Yeah, and if we really, really want a veteran type to have alongside the young guns, I'd rather have Nico Ibáñez, who will be eligible and willing to play for the NT this January (and who will be only 31 in the summer of 2026) or Rulas if he returns (and maintains) his pre-injury level. Preferably to a Cheech who's already 34.
Personally I prefer: Rafa Márquez or Jimmy Lozano Idgaf about "experience". Scaloni just won with less than 5yrs of experience. I know, it's Argentina, and we could all "coach" and win with that team, but seriously I think we need to give them a chance. Anything outside of those two, I'll be disappointed and hope for the best. That's just my personal preference.
Honest question, who is considered the best tactical coach or assistant coach in Mexico or just Spanish speaking. I love the idea of Rafa but you need an Xs and Os go alongside him who is comfy being number 2.
I dusted off my Google-fu and found the guy I was looking for. Mario Alberto Garcia Covalles, should be the assistant coach and Rafa Marquez the head coach. Two Mexicans won the form a long time captain and another a person is a coach in the league and has coached all over the country. Was the assistant to Maradona and so he understands what it's like to work with a guy who's a player with a vision but not the best at X's and O's but great at talking to players. Rafa can be the guy who talks and motivates the players. No outsiders, no Argentines.
Lmao...Scaloni is one in a million. The vast majority of legendary players turned coaches fail. I also don't know why everyone has a hard on for Lozano. The guy hasn't done anything with the youth teams. Let him win something first before you give him a National team job.
Yeah, truth is, some people seem to enamored with the idea of a Mexican coach when, newflash, we're not a nation that produces quality coaches. And for each inexperienced coach that succeeds, there are 10 that bust. And with a team with so many problems as the Mexican, a poor structure in the federation and a toxic press, you're asking for disaster.
Nothing surprises me with the FMF. As someone on here stated, I would not be surprised if we see el Chicharo in 2026.
Lol this guy fell off pretty quickly.
Hard Pass. No club success, minimal success with Peru. I'd be ok with giving a guy with little Head Coaching experience the job, but not some retread who's almost 70 and plays the same old tactics.
You ever notice the players that always change teams (they can't hack it, no playing time, bad system etc) almost never pan out? It happens a lot in Futbol, American football and Basketball. The ones that make it are usually the ones who stick it out, adapt and force their way onto the first team. Lozano in Italy easily could have quit when the new Manager came in. Instead he adapted and learned how to play. For every Vela and Tecatito who switches teams for playing time, there's many more Pizzaros, and Gio's.
According to this ArticleRichy Ledezma wants to play for Mexico 🇲🇽 for the 2026 Cycle instead of playing for the US 🇺🇸 #USMNT https://t.co/XE92YlKlAK— Edgar Moreno 🇺🇸🇲🇽 (@ConcacafEdgar) December 28, 2022
lol he needs to stay with the US. Mexico just cap ties them to stick it to the US and never use the players. It's kind of sad actually. Edit: I'm sorry I'm all debie downer but I'm just tired of the same old federation tricks. Nothing ever changes.
There should be a rookie of the tournament award for LigaMX. At least the youngsters can start getting some formal recognition. Maybe it'll put some informal pressure on the teams/coaches to debut some of the young guys. I know that's an American thing for things like basketball and baseball, but I'm desperate to find solutions to the clusterfck that is Mexican soccer. Also if the whole Cartel del Gol report just comes and goes and nothing changes, it'll be a real damn shame. We can't allow people to forget about the failure this last WC cycle was and use the momentum to actually effect change. It seems already though, people are moving on with their lives and it'll be the same old story for Mexican soccer.
Even England has a Professional Footballers' Association Young Player of the Year for the best player under 21.
