Sportswashing clearly works! There is no doubt about that!

Now don't make this west vs middle east/Arabs, Christians/Jews vs Muslims. The matter of fact is that all these people, ethnicities, religions are beautiful in their purest and intended forms. Its that unfortunately some dictators and even democratic elected corrupt use them in the worst form to control people for their own good/benefit.

USA does it, Europe does it, China does it, Middle east do it! We all do it! There is no one who is 100% pure and never will be!

But the matter of fact is that we all are part of it as well, we contribute to this because we are ignorant and cause we really don't care do we, we only care about the sports. That's why sportswashing is the best way to improve tarnished reputations. We literally walked over dead bodies for this WC and its painful to see that some don't acknowledge it because its not their family members who came home in bags. Yes people die in construction but this has been systematic and numbers have been staggeringly high unfortunately!

Did WC 2010 improve much in SA? Did WC 2014 improve much in Brazil? Did WC 2018 improve much in Russia (absolutely not).. will WC 2022 in Qatar really improve much there, will migrant workers be better off? I doubt it. Will WC in USA/Mexico/Canada improve much there? I doubt that as well! 1y after they will invade/bomb one country, make abortion illegal everywhere, murder people in schools and gay bars etc.. drug lords will keep murdering people.. and so on..

But yeah I LOVE FOTBALL!! WE LOVE FOTBALL & FIFA Loves Money!! Thats all that matters in the end!! But lets keep our decency at least and move on!

Ik this is a bit off topic but speaking of the women's wc...if anyone has any queries relating to Melbourne and/or our country in general, pls feel free to shoot me a message. It's the least I can do to repay all the kind tips I've received over this past year relating to FIFA and qatar

Every potential host country is problematic in various ways, although some are much more problematic than others. Qatar did a god job. Logistics were incredibly easy, no threat of crime (at all), games were fantastic. For me, saying that does not in any way diminish my unease with the backstory about how all of this came about, nor at times with how this backstory was filtered through the media. I was in Doha three days after after the event was awarded to Qatar and, based on what was in place there, then, the whole thing seemed rather preposterous to me.

Great to finally have the event in an Arab/Muslim country, it was about time. That said, if that was the main criterion for selection, I would rather have had it in Morocco, a diverse country where people truly love their football, where its easy to meet and interact with and sometimes even befriend local people (in Qatar I had lots of awesome interactions with other fans and with foreign workers from scores of countries but with precious few Qataris). If having it in a Muslim country was a main criterion for selection (and frankly I don't think that would be invalid), I would personally would have preferred the only other Muslim country that bid in 2022: Indonesia. That would have been epic. Messy, chaotic, problematic in different ways. But epic. To each his or her own though, I guess.

I'm hoping that the Argentina/Uruguay bid wins for 2030, but in the end I'll go wherever the crooks at FIFA and their enablers decide to stage it. (In a small and pretty inconsequential way, I guess I am technically one of those enablers.) I'll probably do it lamenting the cost, and morally conflicted in some way, but I love to meet up with other people from around the world and celebrate this wonderful, beautiful game with them for a month.

Well, our bid to host the WC in 2010 was unsuccessful, for the same reasons Qatar won the hosting of the 2022 WC: bribery.

Reports say that Morocco won the vote back then, but FIFA chose South Africa to host the WC anyway:
    https://www.espn.com/soccer/fifa-wo...t-south-africa-won-2010-world-cup-vote-report

In fact, most WC hosts/bidders are accused of bribery, it's just a matter of who is best at it, and it seems that you can't host a WC without it.

Some offers "football federations cooperation blabla" in exchange of vote, some do political pressure, etc..
Some hosted world cup after unjustified war as well and millions of killed..all good was for the media at the time
    Nothing perfect..

… And you received the second most votes to host in 1994, not because of bribery, but because FIFA thought it could make a lot more money with a World Cup in the USA than in Morocco. On that count FIFA was no doubt correct, and all of a sudden FIFA got rich as a result —> which I think in some key ways set the stage for the votes for both 2010 and 2022. I had not really realized, until thinking about it now, how Morocco had ‘drawn the short stick’ twice. Given the announced bidders, I think 2030 is a real long shot, but if Morocco is second once again (and provided China doesn’t want it, I imagine they get it whenever they ask), hopefully that paves the way for Morocco (+ friends) 2034!

I'd say the quality of the football played at this WC was better than expected. There were several exciting group deciders (4-team groups must be retained for 2026), less time-wasting thanks to the additional 'injury time', and the usual mix of sometimes diabolical and sometimes impressive refereeing! If we ignore the first 80 minutes, then the final was one to remember! However, the atmosphere at most games and in the streets was tame. With a handful of exceptions, it made the sterile EPL seem lively! Felt the interest among the local Qataris, boosted by all the FIFA signage was marginally better than expected - ahead of the Japan half of 2002 - but way behind every other WC I've attended.

Am pleased I stumbled across this forum - plenty of helpful and knowledgeable posters. I successfully managed to convert my useless mobile tickets into paper tickets at the DECC (as I have no smart phone), though the queue outside was ridiculous! Metro access to and from the stadia was easy, the commuting flights between Doha and Istanbul all went well, and the Turkish bars were packed despite the host country failing to qualify!

Nothing against Qatar or its people, but I'm really looking forward to a 'proper' tournament with raucous fan experiences in a real footballing country for Euro 2024.

FIFA souvenir tickets. How can I buy them? I don't see the option under my ticketing account to purchase them like I should. Am I missing something? Where do I go to do it?

Hey guys, I'm trying to add financial information to my ticketing account so FIFA can pay me back for tickets I resold during the WC (+ still missing refunds from first window, smh).

I have an US account so it seems like IBAN is not applicable. Has someone with an US account can tell me if I just put my regular account info instead of the IBAN + the bank SWIFT code?

Does someone have a good FIFA refunds number that I can call to?

    Thanks!

I used my bank's SWIFT code and regular account number. That worked. (Though it's an Indian bank. System is the same though)

I thought Fifa will refund the money to the same credit card used to buy the tickets, so there is nothing you need to do, am I right?
