In terms of character and integrity, Bento was a good guy. He was strong enough to agree to an interview after 0-1 defeat to Korea at WC 2002(actually the only member on the Portuguese team) and admitted Korea and the US were the better teams. This is consistent with his almost never complaining about referees as the manager of KNT. But as the manager of KNT he was not so great. I resent some Koreans now worshipping him like Hiddink. Kim Byongji is savagely attacked because he expressed a somewhat reserved view of Bento. That is really childish and it reminds me of Suh Sewon incident. He made jokes about Kim Nam Il in 2002 and he was almost expelled from broadcasting. I really detest of this aspect of Korean culture.
Well, just letting you know in advance to be prepared to be disappointed again, because we're likely in for another depressing 4 years (Or should I say 2+2) with another domestic manager. If you read or heard of Kim Byung-ji's comments regarding the hiring process on Bento's successor, it hardly ever suggest that we'll be going foreign again and it'll only make your blood boil further. First off, the idiotic blonde mullet stated they included a "new" criteria that is 애국심 or patriotism (To those who don't understand Korean), and suggests that the next manager must have or show such 애국심. Since when did managers need to have 애국심 to be a good leader, and what does it have to do with managing/leading a team in the first place? Did Hiddink have 애국심 that lead us to the the Semis? This only means that they want a loyal 국내 호구 who will listen to the KFA like a good lap dog. Secondly, given that some of the board members are arguing against the idea of a foreign manager by stating that we shouldn't stay too dependent on foreign managers obviously suggest that they want to go the domestic route. Not to mention Kim Byung-ji stating that instead of spending more money on a decent manager, that they should save it and go for a qualified domestic manager. But, this is also due to the fact that they've witnessed what Moriyasu has done with Japan. It's monkey see monkey do, they literally believe that our domestic managers (Or whoever gets selected) will be able to emulate Moriyasu; "If Japan can do it, why not us?". Third, the reason they're going with a 2+2 is because of the 2026 WC's 48 team expansion and the goal being to qualify for the WC. The irony is that they're not thinking about going past the Round of 16, but rather qualifying for the WC is "good enough" while at the same time thinking that the WCQs will be a walk in the park. The public has every right to criticize Kim Byung-ji, the dude has done absolutely nothing since becoming one of the many VPs of the KFA. So much for being a member of the 2002 WC . Lastly, this photo was taken back during our November friendly vs Iceland, which suggests that the KFA has already decided on the Kim Hak-bum + Kim Eun-jung card and that everything is just media play along. This is the guy who nearly caused our players to have a heatstroke by having them keep the ACs turned off because "get used to/adapt to the weather", while crashing out of the Tokyo Olympics. What a fucking joke.
Chung Monkey was the chairman or president of K-League before he became the head of KFA and he was popular among K league owners because he sided with them against the more national team minded his cousin and Cho Joongyeon. I don't know whether it is genuine or made up but Bento talked about Monkey being a businessman foremost. His era has been an unmitigated disaster for Korean soccer but it is masked by the spectacular rise of Son Heungmin, Kim Minjae and Lee Kang In who led Korea's U20 to the final. The support for NT and Uxx NTs has dwindled under his reign but it is masked by the unusually high level of youth talents Korea produced during this time which has nothing to do with his management. He is extremely stingy and Korean soccer has no future with him. He will never step down. I am not the only one who pointed out this side of his nature. He weathers the storm by being quiet but he is very keen on keeping his position, will do whatever necessary to keep his position. Public humiliations will do nothing because he has no honor and he does not care about soccer unlike his reviled cousin who at least is passionate about Korean soccer. There will be another election in Jan 2025. Some say there is a clause that bars him from seeking the 4th term but I cannot find anything related to it.
At least Kim Gi-dong was smart enough to sign a contract extension with Pohang till 2025. He dodged the bullet by avoiding the knt job imo.
Patriotism and respectfulness is the weakness of our players. Messi retired from the NT as a power play against the Argentine FA. Son must take a page out of his book and demand a qualified manager who can build on Bento’s principles, else stop wasting his time with the NT.
Messi also demanded Sampaoli, who was appointed for that reason. Argentina barely got out of the groups. Publicly telling the KFA to stop being stingy is fine, but I hope he won’t demand a specific manager.
true or false? If this is true, they still need to get criticized. Not even one meeting + nothing decided even though Bento already decided to leave in September?
Meh, I think KFA wanted to wait and see how we do in the WC. Now that it's over, they can assess our results and make decisions on how we should progress from here. I hope they weren't sitting on their asses at least.
Backpedalling at its finest imo Chung and KFA probably expected praise and adoration for getting to ro16. In reality, everyone thinks the team achieved success despite KFA doing everything to f**k it up
Kim Byung-ji just made an ass out of himself with that 애국심 발언 and suggesting a 2+2 contract. I hope he's feeling like shit right now because no one in their right mind would be this daft to come up with something stupid like this. The KFA never ceases to amaze the public with their incompetency, it's a world record at this point.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Chung mong gyu was daft enough to come up with something like this. A lot of chaebols live in their own little bubble surrounded by yes men. Probably looked at Japan's success with a domestic manager and thought hmmm... the public will really like the 애국심 angle. Idk enough about the situation but I'm guessing Kim Byung Ji heard about this stuff from somewhere or someone from the KFA. I doubt he'd just make this up on his own, unless he's an evil genius that wants to make the KFA look retarded and sabotage them
https://cm.asiae.co.kr/article/2022121017204758216 Ahn Jung-hwan rumored to be part of the coaching staff as a coach whoever the manager may be.
