Brazil created and missed a lot of chances in the second half. Croatia were good without being threatening as they lack a quality striker and a right winger. Brazil probably deserved to win.

Argentina vs Brazil would have an amazing semi-final.

Germany putting an end to their dour 1990 run was fantastic. Argentina was so awful in that final. They had no intention of matching Germany It was foul and hope for penalties. Such a contest to their 1986 team that actually want to play the game.

 

I saw a video of the full match on YouTube. Honestly Germany should have won 4-0, as Argetina didn't bother Illgner at any point.

 

Latin countries and Spain make me puke. Also the spanish teams like barcelona,atletico. How can someone be a fan of these teams is beyond me(except Real i have respect for them).

So altogether in that match there were 15 bookings plus a a second yellow/red for Dumfries after the final whistle, and also a yellow for Argentina assistant coach Walter Samuel. Definitively the worst disciplined match so far this tournament.

 

France have some deficiencies themselves. Deschamps was furious with Tchouameni who was having a poor game vs Poland so he brought him off in the 66th minute. Kounde is playing out of position at right-back. He had some weak moments against Poland. It's an area the opposition could exploit. Theo is fantastic going forward but not the best defensively. Lloris could be a weak link as well.

 

Dutch GK( bar Krul) pretty hopeless when it comes to penalty. Cillessen was awful in that 2014 PSO v Argentina and now Noppert.

 

Messi v Gvardiol will be fun to watch.

ever since their last world cup title 20 years ago, brazil have been going out to the first decent european side they face.

2014 semifinal 1-7 shellacking to germany...also 0-3 against dutch in 3rd place game

2018 quarterfinal out to belgium

2022 quarterfinal out to croatia


but no doubt 4 years from now i'll be hearing the same hype about brazil being overwhelming favourites again

 

as soon as it went to penalties i knew the dutch were out.
their penalty shootout record in world cups and euros rivals england.

argentina now have the most penalty shootout wins in world cup history, won 5 lost 1.

germany and now croatia are more impressive for me though, both still unbeaten with 4-0 records.

Like you mentioned quality wise this WC is pretty low. If this was some other germany we would have cruised until the late stages. Except France i dont see a team that is doing anything special. Argentina are overrated and pushed with this messi agenda. Fifa Wants to make messi the goat. They gave him motm when he sucked. Dont get me wrong i like messi a lot more than Ronaldo but seeing dodgy calls penalties etc just so that he can build his stats is having a contra effect.

I still remember how bad a loser Argentina were during and after the shoot out at WC 06.

 

My point still stands. Be it in victory or defeat, Argentinians have no decorum whatsoever.

 

To this day I still believe Frings getting suspended cost us the semifinal. Damn Italian media.
