I thought the Chinese do it worse. So why the harsh remarks on only the Japanese?

Regarding the KNT defensive efforts. Yes, they have to be better. And fouling opponents is normal. Japan don't butcher people- they are still well within the means of sportsmanship. But if they know someone's getting away, they kill that momentum.
A Korea that has learned the lessons of both Bento and a Croatian/Italian/Scandinavian manager would be fearsome tactically. Add some passion-infused 뿡 축구, and a new "Croatia" could be born.

Regarding who is more beautiful- I'll say I prefer Koreans and Japanese over white people, aesthetically. Women absolutely don't need plastic surgeries, while some men look both masculine and harmoniously beautiful at the same time.

In Olympic 2012's Bronze Medal Match, Koo Jacheol made a clean very hard tackle on a Japanese player. The referee called it foul. Koo was furious and shouted at the referee "Why Why Why...". Koo was the captain so he could protest without the immediate danger of a yellow card. But still the future captain Ki had to restrain him for the fear he might get carded. The referee was taken aback. Koo saved the game right there.

There are ways that referees give advantages to Japan. If a clean tackle looks too hard he will call it foul - "unnecessarily rough play" or something like that. That is against the unwritten rule that a clean tackle is not a foul. But if Japan make a clean tackle it will not be called. Japanese are keenly aware of how much they are favored by FIFA and these are calculated moves. It is a bad sportsmanship.

As I said before Japan are like a teacher's pet who is known as an exemplary student among teachers but who does all kinds of nasty and unethical things behind the teachers' back.

@Testator Congrats to you and your team. Unfortunately I wasn't able to catch the match and had to watch the highlights instead, but fighting a world class team like Brazil at their own game and winning on penalties is a pretty impressive feet, to which it also reminds me of when we beat Spain on penalties at the 2002 WC. Also, hats off the Dalic, he's been proven to be a top class manager after having guided Croatia to two consecutive WC semifinals, and perhaps the best out of Croatia in recent years (Not that Niko Kovac is any worse).

I hope the Croatians can get lots of rest with the given time because it's gonna be a tough Semis after coming off of two consecutive OTs + PSO. I believe they'll fight well again however, I mean after all they did fight through two over times, so I don't see how they won't do the same again. I also hope you guys beat the Argies next week Sunday and move onto the finals, possibly win the whole thing.

    정말로 감사합니다!!

I take pride in my homeland's honorable football. We're like Italians in defense, but without the pathetic cheating. The willpower part is the rough terrain of the Dalmatian hinterlands. Yes, we're tired, and rotation would help so much. But there is a common Slavic theme that has penetrated the Croatian, Polish and Ukrainian languages.

"Croatia has not perished yet, it shall stand tall when we wake it up"
are the lyrics of a patriotic song of old times. We are like a zombie that wakes up after each shot, becoming unkillable. I'm reading a Naver article on yesterday's match, just to absorb Korean words.

May there be even more interest in Koreans to come see Croatia after this World Cup- sparked by a hopeful crowning of the Checkered Zombies.

I was impressed by how the Croats played against Brazil. They showed great resilience in defence, yet were able to pass the ball around nicely. The funny thing was that they had much fewer shots on target than Korea had in their game against Brazil. If Korea managed to have that same resilience in the back, combined with their offensive play, that would be nice, wouldn't it?

Outside of the knt, Hrvatska is the second team after the Oranje that I support, so as cringy as it may sound, I'll take the win over Brazil on penalties as Croatia's way of getting payback for our loss at the Round of 16 haha. Also will visit Croatia one day in due time since it's one of my must go to country out of Europe.

I prayed Oršić would involve himself in said payback. He's closest to a Korean representative on the tournament right now. And he did.
I live in the city of Split. I hereby pledge to be of help to you or any other Koreans that come to my hometown for sightseeing. I'm only hoping to be able to get some Korean conversation going, in return.

Argentina will yet again get another dubious penalty from the ref. It's so fukn obvious FIFA want Messi to win. They need another legacy story to sell to the little kiddies. Croatia just doesn't have a large commercial football market.

The first part is accepting that negative football is necessary. Countries defend in time of war, they don't just attack. No shame in falling back in line- screw those complaining about boring games.

Second part is easier than the first. Koreans are proud of their country, and in real life, do everything to help it, just like Japanese people do for Japan. Extending this to football means throwing oneself at every ball in defense, blocking anything, tackling bravely, and covering space with one thing in mind: protect the goal like soldiers protect the homeland. If necessary, a player must expose himself to pain. Defense must be a sacred duty.

Modrić carries a lot of influence and respect, not just Messi. I am always praying for refereeing of a decent standard. Argentina have pressured referees a lot yesterday. Perhaps, this will come back to paint them as annoying, so they'd get less than if they toned down their antics.

I don't want to sound jealous and petty but on paper Morocco's win is similar to other upsets in this WC. Extremely low possession rate.(Korea over Portugal was the only exception but Portuguese were not that serious in that game)
To be honest I have not watched and analyzed all the games but these look like variations of Queiroz... only without grassrolling.

Morocco were beaten by Iran in 2018 similarly. But people attributed it to grassrolling that Iran did till the 90th minute. A lucky own goal gave Iran the victory. But Queiroz has been doing it since 2011 or so when he took over. He won praises at WC 2014 and WC 2018.

Morocco are a vastly superior side to Iran and their win today involved less luck than Iran's in 2018, so people may dismiss the similarity but I hope this WC is not the beginning of ugly soccer where both sides employ extreme defensive tactics.

Korea should get a manager willing to copy Morocco's tactical plan when defending. Not the grass-rolling. An honorable defense is possible, and against big teams- necessary. Morocco know their defensive stuff- better than Croatia. Their counters are slightly flawed though. I'm sure SHM/HHC would have scored some of those.

Korea should study Morocco and Croatia and try to build a highly organized defense but without sacrificing offense too much. Morocco and Croatia could not do this vs Portugal and Brazil but Croatia did achieve a marginally superior match statistics vs Japan.

This Korean team is short(but taller than Japan or Spain, Mexico etc.) so not much similarity with Croatia but Korea is capable of fielding a tall team. They have done that a few times and they did not do that well. Also players at World Cup are getting taller. A tall Korean team was about 183 cm av. but they would be only average among the teams in this World Cup.

Korea needs to build good soccer fundamentals among her players. Korea lack this but Japan have this especially after a lot of their players went to Europe. Korea emulating Morocco and Croatia has this limitation.

In the past Korean managers used Koreans' physical superiority over Japanese savagely and masked their short comings.(Troussier, Japan's manager at WC 2002, talked about this and warned the West who generally thinks Koreans and Japanese are very similar physically) When Bento and Hwang Sunhong refused to use this tactic the results were ugly. Korea probably can still beat Japan head to head but I don't know how long it will last.

In terms of height, KMJ and CGS are of immediate help. A solid tall-ish CDM and a bit taller LCB should suffice for a low block against most elite teams, making set pieces less of an issue. Maybe a taller full back could be found if not a CDM. However a mid block can be an option if newly discovered players in defense turn out to be pacey.

Mentally, the building of a strong KNT starts with patriotism. Finding a foreigner who respects Korea as much as I do and would insist on patriotism is hard (Halilhodžić maaaybe?), and so, having Korean staff to prepare the team to fight football wars in every game would be essential. The manager would take care of the tactical matters, such as marking systems.

This is a team that has practically no defensive ability compared to any decent opponent. If anything, they play better offensively but the finishing is generally poor. They are also quite harmless in corners and I can't even remember the last time they scored from them.

What more can a certain manager or style of play do if the players generally don't have individual skills on par with the top 20 teams? What strategies or tactics really are there if you can't score nor defend?

Wow... Morocco's manager was appointed just before WC. The one prior to him had a problem with Ziyech and benched him. Morocco FA booted that fool and brought in a Moroccan native coach, Ziyech is popping off, and Morocco made a historical run. Lots to learn from their FA.

Disagree. KMJ is a top level defender. What KNT needs is tactical improvements that would allow the team to defend as a whole, while the Monster coordinates defensive efforts. I bet nobody knew how much Morocco could defend (their full backs are known for their attacking skills!).
Amrabat, the Moroccan CDM used to be an attacking midfielder in his younger days. Now, he's the nightmare of big names in midfield.
An ingenious manager created Morocco's defensive structure- the current one managed to fit two big names into it without ruining it. That ingenious manager is available for approach, and his name is Vahid Halilhodžić. Best possible pick KFA could make.

That's why a team-based defense is necessary. But he can coordinate and do the hardest work. He has a partner he's familiar with. A manager who can spot some new defensive talents and give a defensive structure to the team, so that they cover each other, block passing lanes and trap opponents in unfavorable situations could make Korea a "landmine" team for anyone to face.
