I had Netherlands ranked higher. After today…I think maybe Croatia.

Croatia is easily a better team than Holland based on this tournament and previous ones.

I thought they were better 4 years ago than now. Maybe they’ll prove me wrong, top stars are older, some are gone, but some of the young guys came out of nowhere and are good.

Japan had them in the ropes for a while, though.

That's the thing - he has been unbelievable at club level (and even versus the best teams). So the standard he set is very high and relative to NT he has not been the same (relative to club, he should have more winner's trophies). I'm saying this as a Messi supporter as well.

That is out of context, and not a comment on Messi. That is comment on FIFA and their rules about what a player can show on the field.

You will easily be ranked lower than Croatia, and lower than after anyone else

No doubt. The only reason we can make this point is that the standards he set at Barca are so high. But it’s a team game and you can’t blame him for Higuaín and Palacios missing sitters at the WC final against Germany. If Burruchaga had missed in 86 and Germany won in extra time, would you hold it against Maradona?

I understand what you are saying and the argument. But the absolute greatest players bring that something extra which extends to teammates. What is the difference between him at club versus him at national team? I don't know as the drop off in talent is miniscule if at all.
One thing I will say about Messi is that as he has grown older, he has changed his game. There is much to approve of that. As a Messi fan, I would like to see him win a WC (which probably means this one). But, for me, win it or not, it won't change my view of him as an overall player.

This is awful. This twitter thread is full of videos showing the shithousery that those sore loser were pulling on us. This is only from the penalty shootout, but they ve been doing it all game and there are videos going around from that too.

First, they were all over ENZO (Enzo is only 21 years old) insulting him and surrounding him before the kid took (and miss) the penalty. Then, 4 dutch men were all over Lautaro insulting him. The GK also. Dumfries was particullary awful.

What a pathetic group of sore losers. ARGENTINA OWNED THEM ALL GAME AND THEY KNOW IT. From minute 0 to 78 it was all Argentina. Then their goal came and they had a good 20 minutes (cos that crazy ref added 10' and their scored a 2nd goal at the 101 minute) and then the ENTIRE ET was ARG all over them AGAIN. Sore losers. You were lucky lucky lucky to go to penalties, we got 83% possession and owned you completely. But you go and shittalk and threathen our players????

I know it must be sad to have played how many finals? 3? And NEVER win. Or go out AGAIN against ARG like in 2014. Yeah, it must suck. But you cant be that petty and awful and small small and tiny.

Respect the great futbol nations or pay for it.

    What a disgrace futbol group.

If it wasnt for their antics and the crazy refs this was actually a GREAT game of futbol.

But you are that team now, right?? Talk crap before, try to humiliate us, provoke all game, threathen and then cry and whine. Pathetic.

I would like to face a real team next match.

The last 10+10 minutes of regulation after it became 2:1, Holland played Argentina in the same manner Iran played the US in the last 10+9 minutes of its game. To Holland's credit, they executed a well rehearsed freekick to get a last second equalizer. Even if Iran had scored an equalizer and advanced instead of the US, I would admit the US had outplayed Iran for most of that match, even though I would be ecstatic with the result regardless. In this case, Holland got their equalizer but then went back being clearly the lesser side against Argentina in OT.

If I was grading the two on a 10 point scale, I would grade them in this match as follows: Argentina 9 Holland 8.5.

Many excuses which means little coming from a biased fan's standpoint. You don't mention Paredes getting away with a clear 2 YC incident, nor the handball by Messi unpunished, or the reaction after Messi scored in the shootout. You want to shift all the focus on the Dutch and away from the Argentina squad doing anything wrong.

How about admitting the faults we all witnessed? How would any neutral even look at your statement without laughing? We all watched the same game, and know what occurred.

Was at the game. Thrilling to say the least. <3 the Argentinean crowd and respect to the 4-5 large pockets of Dutch fans who came out.

We should all be forgiven our emotions and that of others directly after the game... it was a nailbiter.

Not to say it is comparable...but God knows I'm searching my opponents psn Id and giving a polite "gg" ;):D:ROFLMAO::sneaky: after a close fut champs match

So people like me who like Messi have envy towards Argentina because of him?

Not because guys like Paredes who deserved a red and how Argentina players composed themselves after the 80th minute. It is pure envy right?

You see nothing wrong with how Arg players behaved

You complain about 10 minutes ET when since the 80 minute until 90+10 maybe 10 minutes in total was played

People like Brazil. Many people like Brazil. I even like Brazil but I want them to lose because I want new winners. For example I like Messi a lot and would be happy for him to get a WC but I want a new country winning a world cup. I personally actively hate countries like Italy and USA

I think people like France too but SA people seem to lost their shit on Mbappe quotes so you all hate France now

About Argentina directed hate if Argentina continued like they were in the 75th minute it would have been ok and heck they even deserved a 3rd. But after the 80th minute what Argentina did was pure filfth and I am not mad at Argentina I am mad at the moron of a ref who let them get away with it. At least 3 Arg player deserved 3 yellows

    What ?

You going to trash Japan now ?

The japanese team in this WC was absolutely superb. They not only defeated and eliminated one past WC champion (Germany, whom won their last WC, against Argentina at the final of 2014), but also defeated another past WC champion at group phase (Spain), whom trashed Argentina last time they played together by 6-1, (Oh yes, almost 4 years ago, but maybe also the reason why Argentina avoids playing them since then, :p).

Oh, and let me remind you, last time Argentina played against Japan, they lost.

A draw, and post win on penalty's against a tough team, doesn't discredit any team, but instead it raises its reputation.
    .
    .

Btw, same kind of reputation Argentina gets by defeating the Netherlands (on penalty's), now.

I didn't want to thrash Messi here, now, but .....

Thanks to Messi, we (Chile), won our last Copa America in 2016, after he decided to kick down a satellite in the penalty kick shoot-out for that final match. In this case, it was only him who missed the sitter.

Oh and btw, I'm going to say it now for the record, I was very happy with Argentina's win in this quarters match-up as how things happened, Argentina is our only Conmebol hope for what remains in this WC
