California used it this past election.

I guess they call it something else, still only the top 2 regardless of party moves to the general election.

Yes.. Because voters implemented a top-two primary via CA's proposition process in 2010... Both parties opposed it.

I'm not surprised by Sinema. This was her only chance in 2024.

Now that an example was set…
what are the chances that Manchin not only goes Independent but goes full bore GOP?

None. Why would he do it now when the Dems don’t need him for judges anyway? I guess if he gets a brain disease that destroys his ability to make rational decisions it could happen.

I’ll repeat myself (maybe from another thread.)

No, her only chance was to be the 50th vote to get rid of the filibuster and then pass a law protecting abortion rights. Even that might not have been enough..she might have had to become more Catholic than the Pope, and get election/voting reform passed, and an end to the debt ceiling, and everything else on the Democratic wish list.

She may think she has a chance, but her favorability in AZ is 18%. 18! She.s 1/3 below the Crazification Factor! And even that exaggerates her chances, because her favorability with GOPs is much higher than with Dems, but those GOPs are never voting for her over Kari Lake or whatever.

She is going to do to Democrats in Arizona what Trump will do to Republicans in 2024.

    Run as a spoiler.

Manchin doesn't face any primary challenge - rather he has to position as a conservative democrat to win in a red state

If he went over to the republicans, he would lose to the republican candidate in 24

Ah, don't take me literally. I used the term in the Faux way, as shorthand for "stuff that progressives like." Whether any of that stuff is technically socialist is beside the point.

The Dems should tell her to get down or lay down. Vote on some big things and we won't run a challenger or we run one. We will take our chances. We will not be held hostage. We need to help the current Dem sen in Ohio, and hold serve plus go after one or two vulnerable GOP.

How will she finance her campaign? She’ll have to set up her own effort, without any help from either party. And it’s not like senatorial races come cheap. Any independent run she makes in AZ will be swamped by those of the major party candidates.

I was thinking the same thing. Isn’t she already bought and paid for by energy and Pharma?

    It’s just a seat/senate vote for sale

Yes, but so is the Blue now. Dems just won control of the state legislature and all but one of the state level elections, including a US Senate election.. Arizona is 100% doable.

How do we mitigate this Sinema s h * t Show?

It’s almost as if she’s daring the Dems to run against her….actually that’s exactly what it is

She absolutely is attempting to blackmail Dems into backing her. The problem for her is, she is less popular among Dems than Republicans right now. That can obviously change in 2 years, but if it doesn’t, there is a chance she would pull more votes from Republicans than Democrats.

I mean, I guess it is about perspective, and it’s easy to look at it from a Dem lens.

Good episode today talking about her

Dems should run their own candidate in AZ for sure.

If the Republican wins, so be it, but they can't let Sinema black mail them like that.

There is no reason that will change in Az. As I said before she is close to Kari Lake territory for the Dems were.

There were efforts way before Sinema's shenanigans to enroll Ruben Gallego to run. He is giving indications he will. He can be formidable, he is a Az through and through with a Latino background, he is popular in his district, he is a war vet and he can raise a ton of $$$.
