I can't stand it when a politician decides to switch to another party part way through their tenure.

who the fukk do they think they are? YOU weren't elected - your PARTY and its policies was elected.

you don't get to just walk away from supporting and advancing those policies!

if you feel so strongly that you can't continue as a member of that party - here's an idea quit! and run next time as something else if you want.

In this case it's her insurance against getting primaried... very self-centered though, and I doubt it will work. She's probably thinking, "I better do this so that I can get leverage to keep my committee assignments so I can keep raking in the pharma industry money and show that I am still relevant." And she's going to need the money to try to get re-elected. My guess is she loses like Arlen Specter and Joe Lieberman (eventually) did.

She's effectively telling everyone she's a senator for hire... whether that be political party or lobbyist is apparently irrelevant. Crazy clothes are only going to take you so far, and I don't think she's got nearly the political chops of the other two senators who did this late in their careers. Probably means that her seat will go to the R's next time around.

Yes, but actually, wouldn't it be better if it was THEM, the INDIVIDUALS, who were elected and not their political party?

If we had a congress which was run by individuals rather than parties, we'd probably have a much easier time getting rational policies enacted. Yes there'd be pork since everything would be based on dealmaking, but isn't that explicitly what the foundation of representational government is? Everyone pushes for what is best for their constituencies, and then deals get made to try to get as many people as close to what they need as possible?

    She won’t be. Supposedly the breakdown in Arizona is 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 D, R and I.

She was going to be primaried, probably by Raul z Grijalva, and lose. This way allows her keep her committee assignments and maybe, maybe, maybe hold her seat in ‘24.

But she’s polling poorly across the board and short of walking on water, she would never have received the Democratic nomination, the GOP one would never happen, so Independent really is the only way to go, hoping that something great (for her) happens between now and ‘24.

She sounds like a future FoxNews contributor; they’re looking for someone now that Lara Trump has been fired.

Absent an intervening invisible political class where the power is brokered - the lobby system - and that would be the case, and would also work okay as a multi-party system (as in germany, holland, etc) where people do get a lot of what they want from government, not instead a lot of smokescreen lectures about patriotism and pluralism and other associated semantic membranes laced across the truth of things.
My gut feel is that instead having all individuals as you suggest - but still with lobbying, would be an even worse disaster. It's the limited party set-up that is the big problem IMO. I can see about 6 variations of type bloc in Congress, but we have to fit these into two opposing blocs.... it's utterly silly, and completely stymies the common-sense (for the people) advances that tend to come in other countries from fluctuational political alliances.
However, as I've said before (referring to the great trick played upon the "freest people in the world" - absent the power of these same duped people to enact constitutional change when they need/want to (without the consent of the spear-tip of the political class at ridiculously high majorities) and you have this unbreakable system of basically corporate governance.

That said - however, the idea of a quick shag with her isn't totally nauseating - not when you compare the idea to every other senator in US history.... ;)

No, your PARTY is not elected.
If that were the case Walker would have won in Georgia going away, just like all the other R's there did.

Sinema can do anything she damn well pleases. Why does she have to carry water for the party?
She's got a high chance of success in a 3-way race against a liberal crusader and another idiot like Masters.
Her problem will be what happens when she's in term 2 with no real power, no committee leadership spots, and no party behind her. But she probably doesn't care all that much since she'll slide into some $400k/yr role and she can continue to be a "Prada liberal" or whatever she called herself.

Iran on Monday executed a second man convicted over the protests that have shaken the regime for almost three months, defying an international outcry over its use of capital punishment against those involved in the movement.

Rights groups had at the weekend warned that several other people arrested over the demonstrations were at imminent risk of being executed.

Walking with Bandit this morning, sun was rising and frost everywhere. Reminded me of slides in the schoolyard. Long time gone now, I doubt kids now know what slides were.
