I assume that they felt like their go-ahead goal was what they had deserved all game long, and they got caught up in the moment of triumph. But, in soccer as in "Unforgiven," deserves got nothing to do with it. Even though the players should have known better, I think that you have to place some of the blame on the coach. If it was one guy foolishly trying to dribble out of his own box, that's one thing - you can't make a player stop being Brazilian, for better or for worse (almost entirely for better). But if the whole team loses their head, at a minimum the coach has failed to instill adequate respect for the moment and for the opponent.
Now THAT looked like a US break! Argentina player wide open running to the corner of the box, the pass is made a smidgen late, and then it plays the man way wide to kill the chance. That's one of our final 3rd patterns. Argentina had a chance to virtually finish off the game, but couldn't.
The longer it goes, the more I root for Messi to win the Cup. Stick Argentina versus France for the final in my veins.
Another example of something that was probably a foul but injust to have it turn into a penalty. Really wish there was something in between a free kick outside the box and a penalty for that kind of thing.
You mean Denzel Dumfries isn’t the 2nd coming of Roberto Carlos like Berhalter tactics made him look like?
The France-Argentina in 2018 was arguably the best game in that tournament. I doubt it happens, but it has the potential to be a good final. But nah, finals are never good, the players are far too nervous.
the shithousing gods are seeking to bless us with a NEDvsCRO semi-final... 78' - #NED have had just one shot in the entire match: Steven Bergwijn in the 24th minute. None in the second half.#NEDARG | #FIFAWorldCup pic.twitter.com/iiJgmDMYHW— StatsBomb (@StatsBomb) December 9, 2022
So much for the Dutch total football !! Three huge guys up front and hit it long ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Denzel Dumfries is still a very good player for Inter. Not Gregg's fault Jedi and Ream couldn't communicate on that third goal.
What pathetically cowardly officiating. The culprit was telling you he committed that hard tackle on purpose by firing the ball into the opposing bench, which is also at least a yellow card by itself. You could argue 2 reds. Certainly it should have been two yellows/red. All the ref gives is 1 yellow. It's gutless.
I gotta say I actually love that we are actually getting full 90s in this cup. I'd love to see refs keep doing this everywhere.
