That’s the thing with Nations League means far less easy matches, normally in a calendar year in the past we would have more friendlies/easy qualifiers to stat pad but this year 9/12 matches were competitive. And we only won 2 of those, 1/6 NL & 1/3 WC. Finished 3rd in both groups.

We did win 2 out of the 3 friendlies but they were v Israel (H) & Oman (A). The other friendly was a draw away v Netherlands. Funny it used to be we were good in tournaments and shit in friendlies, now it’s the other way around lol.

Another interesting fact is the Israel and Oman wins were also our only clean sheets of the year. Conceded in 10/12 matches .

Too bad Flick was so dismissive of the NL.

Look, I know the NL has nowhere near the weight of a World Cup or Euro, but being the host nation means you need every bit of competitive edge you can get, and the NL would have provided just that.

On related note, a friend of mine expressed his belief that hosting a tournament should not equal automatic qualification. The host nation has to fight for their qualification just like any other.

The NL isn’t crucial to everyone, but for us under a newish coach we really could have done more with it. All that happened was it highlighted the same weaknesses we knew we had against defensive & physical counter attacking teams, as shown in the 2 matches v Hungary. But we didn’t learn from that unfortunately.

If host’s didn’t automatically qualify then Qatar wouldn’t have made it this time. Probably not South Africa in 2010 either. It’s a tough one because to generate excitement in the host nation it really helps having the home team there. It does seem silly that all 3 of USA, Mexico & Canada will automatically qualify for 2026 though, what sort of standard is the Concacaf qualification group gonna be like without any of them?

will never happen, host nations spend billions on tourneys they have to be automatic qualification and FIFA use them to boost the sport around the world.

I Guess leading up to the Euro24 finals were going to have to select a pool of players and play them in majority of the games right up to the finals, that's the only way we will build a togetherness and use the games as competitively as possible.

Hansi Flick and his staff do not regret not calling up Mats Hummels for the WC. Flick is aware that his extremely attacking style could be risky & lead to counter attacks, therefore he believes that even with Hummels, there would've been tricky situations

Hummels brought his best performances before the World Cup at Dortmund when Edin Terzic played with a backline that sits deep - a style that does not fit Flick's philosophy

Flick and the players are hoping for more support at Euro 2024 in Germany. While other nations such as Brazil, Argentina or Morocco celebrated a big party in Doha from the start, the negativity in Germany towards the World Cup and Qatar did not go unnoticed by the team

In addition, the debate around the One Love armband annoyed some players and led to internal tensions. Although it's not an excuse for the elimination, Flick is hoping that in Euro 2024, football will be the main focus again and there will be solidarity with the fans

I get that Hummels wouldn’t suit a high line ultra attacking style, but is there actually anything to suggest that is the right way for this team to play? The results certainly don’t suggest so. If Flick doesn’t regret anything about how he approached this tournament then what’s gonna change?

At the moment we dont have the personnel to play a high line aka bayern style. Bayern have Davies and the Frenchies , who to be honest are definetly a upgrade on what what we have. But surely hansi saw this over the summer in the Nations league that we struggled with this, yet come world cup he turned a blind eye to all the weaknesses and hoped for the best.

Going forward hope his ego doesn't get the better of him and he must surely build a philosophy which suits the profile if the team.

Does Flick even know how to play another style of football? For him, it seems to be all about pressing high.

He might be able to get a more conservative version of his pressing system working if he has enough games and a settled first XI

DFB should considered Patrick Owomoyela as Bierhoff replacement. I hope he keep his dreads though lol.

with Brazil also flopping and a LOT of their current players would be 32-35 next WC. They too might be forced to rebuild.

so Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Brazil all looking like going rebuild mode.

Argentina+Portugal might have to move past their so called aging starts post WC.

I hear you but who would you replace Flick with? Keep in mind, most of the big names like Klopp, probably do not want to take the Die Mannschaft job. What is Tuchel, that much better than Hansi Flick?

Keep in mind that the DFB board, did not do Flick any favors by keeping Joachim Low. They were setting up any coach to fail because you need some time with the team. Now that is an inditement on Oliver Bierhoff and that is why he got sacked.

Basically, Hansi Flick has a prove it contract. If Germany do not go at least to the finals or probably even win it all, he will not be the coach for World Cup 2026.
Patrick Owomoyela would be a good fit for Bierhoff's replacement, but I will throw another name 1- BIG Per Mertesacker would be an excellent replacement. He eats, sleeps, and breaths, Die Mannschaft football.
What are everyone's thoughts on BIG PER being in charge? I bet they will not be thinking of politics, Per Mertesacker would not allow that to fly on his watch. You try telling the big German no, good luck.

I hope Neuer stays out for a long time and has setback in his recovery so that he never gets fit for the Euro…but problem still remains as Flick seems worse than Loew
