There is typically always a U-20 camp in January (especially during a WC year). Usually U.S U-20 teams mostly consist of players based domestically as 18-19 year olds so it’ll be an important camp
Columbus Crew interviewed US U20 manager Mikey Varas in their search for a head coach, per sources. Wilfried Nancy always top choice but good experience/recognition for Varas. Also: Nancy expected to add to coaching staff soon. Talks ongoing.https://t.co/SwjzpP2giJ— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) December 8, 2022
Always good to see reminders that coaches typically see YNT gigs as stepping stones to bigger things, not the other way around. I remember years ago there were complaints when a then-out-of-work Gerard Houllier wasn't given such an opportunity.
Depends on how much he's paid. I understand that our federation is poor. but if MLS added something like $300K to his salary ( $5K per club), they would make a few millions in profit easily.
Tab Ramos at least when he was U20 coach, was paid $460,772 in his last year on the job. He was also youth technical director so I’m sure that contributed to his salary. Now I’m sure Varas doesn’t get paid as much (and in prior years Ramos got paid less), but I’m sure he’s getting paid decently at least.
Not sure if this has been seen already, but I came across this article about Mikey Varas that I thought was insightful. If has already been posted, then I apologize. I did not go through all of the pages (read:none of them ) of this thread to see if it has already been posted. https://glenncrookssoccer.com/blog/a-conversation-with-usmnt-u-20-head-coach-mikey-varas-part-i
I didn't realize until yesterday that Tyler Freeman signed with Nashville a couple of weeks ago. DC wanted him, but he apparently wasn't interested. He's the type of player who could jump into consideration for the U20 roster if he has a strong start to the MLS season. I'm not sure if he'll actually get minutes at Nashville, but it's something to watch for.
