the other issue with this 2nd place and additional 2 games is fitting all the games in somewhere.

we may have 4 games in 7 days once or twice

Looking at the top 8 point compared to last year at this stage

    Arsenal (+11)
    City (+2)
    Newcastle (+18)
    Spurs (+7)
    ManUtd (+5)
    Brighton (+3)
    Chelsea (-9)
    Pool (-9)

I didn’t expect that the all would be improved other than Chelsea and Pool

Progress but a ways to go. Short term badly need a striker and a RB. Longer term, need an 8, CB, and probably GK.

I’d like to see us push hard for a striker this winter and then go all out for Jude and a RB in the summer. Jude probably won’t come here but we have to try. He’s going to be world class.

considering the relative state we were in we should not have gotten Sancho. we were lucky to have a free run at him.

we cannot bank on the Sancho outcome being repeatable. similar to the #9 many top clubs have midfields that need refreshing or improving and we are not an attractive proposal as was the case then. there are more potentially elite mids but still not enough for everyone

So, first leg of the season thoughts?

I'm feeling pretty good and give ETH a solid A- given what he had to deal with.

5th and only a few points off 3rd with a game in hand. Still in the league cup and EL too.

Hes handled the Ronaldo BS incredibly well and he's been handcuffed with only 1 viable RB and virtually no playable 9 given Martials struggle fir fitness.

Hes solidified defense and our MF are serviceable now for the most part.

I'm decently happy going into the break.

    Everyone else?

    I have faith he'll come good. He's only 22.

After the WC, we need to give more run to guys who didn't go to the WC so McT, Donny, Garnacho, and Sancho. I mean we can have a front 6 of McT, Donny, Erickson/Bruno, Garnacho, Martial, Sancho. We can even move Sancho to 10 and put Elanga on at RW. This isnt for all games but against lower table sides while we have such a congested schedule. We will definitely need a RB in the Jan window. Or give more minutes to Williams and sell AWB.

CF amd RB will definitely be needed. Sancho abd Martial should also be well-rested. I'm hoping to see Iqbal get some minutes too.

I'll put in that i've enjoyed watching most matches when I've gotten the chance. That's all I really care about.

    i am reasonably satisfied.

not happy about the Jekyll and Hyde performances like city/Brentford/Villa versus Spurs/Arsenal but that should get ironed out in time.

if we can find actual good form for Sancho, consistency for Rashford and a few others and a better pool of goal contributors we might be able do something

If he can find his form again that would be huge. I assume him, Donny, McT, Lindelof are gonna be key for us. The guys who didn't have WC to train for and should be fresher.

We have a friendly vs Cadiz today. I think its at 2pm.

Not 100% sure where it's being broadcast. Most likely MUTV

    We lost 4-2.

Lot of guys getting their first (televised) minutes of the season.

I watched our friendly against Cadiz and I must say in the first 45 minutes AWB and Elanga were our worst players. I know will say it's their first game playing in awhile but it was still bad.

If Mainoo keeps progressing, he’s gone to be the youth guy we’re talking about in a year or two. He looks like a real talent.
