Great minutes for his fitness and form and confidences. Looks like we all survived the weekend with no injuries.

Looked sharp on offense for sure. Very adventurous. But super lazy on D several times in this sub appearance. At least two times he literally gave no effort to close down a player about to serve a cross into the box. It seemed kind of obvious to me that he was purposely trying to not put in challenges that could result in injury which I am OK w/ given the circumstances. But there are a lot of question marks w/ our players going into this WC IMO. I really wish we could take Adams and Aaronson's hearts and motors and place them in at least half of our players. Eager to see if this group is ready to put it all on the line on the biggest stage. I know it is a small thing but I think it starts with our starting 11 making an attempt to belt out the national anthem before the game. Just watch the Canadian Team pre-match. They leave no doubt whatsoever that repping Canada is as big as it gets for them.

You said enough. I think we should go with Yedlin for the England game. Let dest take on the other two games.

Possibility the move to AC Milan could be made permanent:

AC Milan are really impressed with Sergiño Dest's performances in the World Cup, and are thinking of paying his €20m purchase clause.

Milan exec: "We've been very impressed with the player in the World Cup and we'd love to try to bring him to play for our club." *checks current club roster* "Oh, nevermind, I see he's already here. Why haven't we used that guy?"

I feel like he's worked his way into the squad, but there was an injury bump in that road. He seems to have learned how to defend better in Italy. I think he's gonna force his way on the field after the break.

I'm looking forward to watching Dest play (and develop) at the club level, wherever that happens to be. Dest remains in demand, and he knows how to play his cards, so I think he'll have some good clubs to choose from when the time comes. A return to Barcelona seems unlikely, but not impossible. It's not clear that a return would be in Dest's best interests. Milan is fine for now.

Milan play a friendly next Tuesday, December 13 at 9:00 AM (eastern) at Arsenal.

And on Friday, December 16, Milan play another friendly, at 10:30AM at Liverpool.

Sergino Dest, born Nov 3, 2000...

I have bottle of port old enough to be his dad. With reasonable luck he's got a lot of pro miles ahead of him. (knock wood, spit, throw salt, sacrifice virgin lamb babies...) Be fine if he's slowly integrated into Milan's starting back 4. Good place to add some defensive top-level nous to his considerable natural and attacking skillz.

Very split opinion all over re Dest (especially in neutral fans of the WC who were unfamiliar with him). People seem to love or hate. Weird.

He was very consistently good in the WC, aside from the ball-watching failure in the Netherlands game. I can't recall him putting a foot wrong other than that.

Even there, he was a heck of a lot closer to challenging the shot than Adams or Jedi were on the other 2 goals - he was a half-step slow, but Blind hit a (surprisingly for the geezer) well-placed shot.

Quite possibly Dest ducked Dubai, where these games are being played. Apparently, Milan will try the old 4-6 v Liverpool.

he's a baller. flashy. confident. that's always gonna create a split opinion if you aren't considered the best of the best. he probably picked us over holland more out of spite than loyalty (not calling him disloyal, more accentuating his pride/confidence). when someone has that type of confidence to some people they are going to love it, while others are going to hate it.

personally? he's my favorite usmnt player.

I forget where it was but he had a quote saying a big reason he picked the USMNT was because they allowed him to compete at an international level, thus raising him game, thus bringing him to a level professionally that he doesn't think he would've reached without that opportunity. So I don't think it was purely spite, but a very rational and mutually pragmatic decision to go with the US. And now that he's "at that level" I think he'll stay "at that level" for quite a few years.

What a bunch of crap. Dest got skinned by Blind. But he was solid throughout the tournament other than that. And no way should ONE mistake lead you to be on this list. Besides, he had an excellent games against Iran. And also recall him shutting down the English wingers.

No idea if these numbers are accurate, but interesting info on Dest and Vranckx loan deals if correct.

    https://sempremilan.com/cf-details-dest-vranckx-loan-milan

    from another sempremilan article:

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri have three players on loan right now that they would like to sign for a price lower than what’s initially agreed with the parent clubs.

Similarly, Dest would cost €20 million which is much more than the level he has shown since arriving at Milan.
