It's an underwhelming move. Hopefully it's just insurance against Vrioni sucking. I can see the need for a veteran backup striker - especially since Rennicks can't put the ball in the net consistently, but this doesn't make the club much better. So he missed half the season with an adductor injury. Who's that striker we had a few years ago who played a handful of matches, strained his adductor and then never played again?
I don't see it that way - I think it's a necessary signing for the quality depth just about everyone agrees we need. Having a former USNT forward to bring in when you need a goal late in games is something we really lacked last year. In addition, he can push Vrioni/Bou, give Arena more options for formation and tactics and give the attack a different flavor. It's something we lacked and it's been addressed - that's a good thing. But, it doesn't change the other significant needs we have this off-season.
Assuming the money is right, I generally agree and like the Wood move. But we had a former USNT striker last year, and it didn't really go well. Not to mention the current crop of USNT strikers who can't seem to put the ball in the net for the NT. I wouldn't use that detail as justification for the deal being good is what I'm saying I guess
ohhh great. He and Omar can go over old times on the bench. There's a reason he was available in the second round bruce. More dead wood Im afraid. Where are the real players? Im not excited so far
Stage 2 is not the same as round 2. Different players are eligible for different stages based on MLS service time etc. Taking a player in stage 1 would require paying their 2021 salary (Wood's was >$1M). His rumored salary for 2023 will be $450k, which is much more in line with his recent production
If the player had his option declined by his previous club, then drafting him in Stage 1 means you assume that option. Stage 2 you can negotiate a new deal. Which is why very few players go in Stage 1. https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/2022-mls-re-entry-process-rules-procedures
Transfer needs: What Eastern Conference clubs must address this winter By Tom Bogert, Matthew Doyle Wednesday, Dec 14, 2022, 08:00 AM New England Revolution
Esmir is in Holland training with Az Alkmaar. He scored two goals for their U-18 side in a friendly this morning vs AFC Amsterdam.
Rumors also that Buck might wind up training with Tottenham. There have been talks, but it doesn't appear this has happened yet.
Rumor that defender Joris Kayembe from Charleroi in the Belgian League is mulling an offer from the Revs. If true, I wonder if that means Jones' time here is limited. https://lookcharms.com/joris-kayembe-heres-the-rumor-coming-from-mls-again/
Doyle tweeted that over a month ago: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/revs-off-season-2022-23.2122853/page-5#post-40918437 Is there some new info that this is revived, or is it the same old rumor?
One source says it ain't so: Tom Bogert @tombogert Sources: Reports suggesting the New England Revolution and the Portland Timbers are "close" on a deal for Eryk Williamson are categorically false. Just completely untrue.
Schedule for 2023 is out. Revs start February 25th in Charlotte, and host Houston for the home opener March 4th (7:30pm). 5 Wednesday games, 2 away on Sunday, and the rest on Saturdays.
Also, we're back in the have-nots category, as the Revs have one nationally televised game, in Atlanta on May 31.
All the games at Gillette are at 7:30pm (except the final one on Decision Day, which is TBD). Fourteen of the 17 home games are on a Saturday. The other 3 are Wednesdays.
Nashville moves back to the East, STL goes to the West. Which makes sense, since team #30 will likely be in the West. So, 15 teams in the East (one more team to beat out for a playoff spot) and 14 in the West.
