It's not something he decided after the Round of 16 exit, he already made up his mind back in September after negotiations for a contract extension failed. Bento wanted another 4 year contract reup running till the 2026 WC, but the KFA offered him a 1+3 contract instead, if I was Bento I'd be pissed too.

Why are they even candidates when they are already with kleague teams?
    KFA is full of idiots.

Ppl who are going for domestic managers need to be fired. Pretty sure they want domestic ones so they can control them.

Maybe he really didn't want to be the knt coach to begin with. Think about it. He used to be head coach for Portugal and even played for them. After that he started coaching some obscure club teams and probably felt the knt was better than what he was getting chosen for and used this as a way to bolster his resume. From what I understand, the pay wasn't competitive either. Also, it isn't easy dealing with kor media/press and living there could not be any more different from what he is used to.

I don't know who's going for domestic, but I do know Lee Yong-soo is pro foreign.

Just had an idea: Korea should troll Iran by hiring their ex manager Dragan Skočić.

tbh I'd rather give another chance to HMB or STY if Lee Yong Soo is going to hire another foreigner based on the weather and whatever his 무당 tells him to do

I don't mind Shin Tae-yong but unfortunately we're not gonna get him since he's currently with the Indonesian national team. Also, why would you want to bother Hong Myung-bo to do the national team job when he’s already got his hands full? The KFA needs to leave him alone and let him focus on the next season + ACL with Ulsan.

Never said they'd be my first, second, or even third choice. Just saying they'd be better options than if Lee Yong Soo tries to hire a foreigner for the sake of hiring a foreign manager like he did with Stielieke. KFA will probably have retarded requirements like being able to speak English again. I wouldn't mind Kim Pan Gon choosing the next manager but he's no longer involved apparently.

Also, KFA doesn't give a shit about the Indonesian job or any kleague club job. We've seen them force Korean managers the NT position over soju like they did with Choi Kang Hee.

HMB is a weirdo. He emphasized "one team" and even refused to find a replacement for an injured player. Korea needs a level headed guy who is not too impressed by himself. His ego needs to be of a manageable size. He can have a philosophy in building the team, training them for his tactics, developing talent in players but he should have as little philosophy as possible on the field. Tactical flexibility and improvisation are the key for a mediocre footballing nation like Korea which does not produce that many talented top players. If someone is really good, the manager should be able to bend his principle a little bit to get the max out of that promising player.

2014 was an unmitigated disaster for sure, but he had just 1 year to prepare.

He gave us our 2nd best footballing achievement by winning bronze in 2012, and he's revived his career at Ulsan. I'm not writing him off as a bad manager yet

And neither did I claim that they were your choices either, I understood you just fine, I'm just telling you how it is regardless of the tone being a rather figurative one.

Also, judging from the article I posted, it seems that Lee Yong-soo and co. went through Kim Pan-gon's list that he left behind, and if that's the case, then they should also go through his criteria/hiring process as well (Although I wouldn't bet my money that they will).

Lastly, although it is true that the KFA has a tendency of forcing domestic managers to take the knt job, money wise they'll never spend a dime on fees just to bring back their own countryman only to fill in the void. After all this is the KFA we're talking about and being that 정몽규 is the president, that stingy prick would rather spend a budget on a one time transaction than to pay double (Even if it means that it's Indonesia).

Whatever the case is, I'm against going domestic again even if it means it's Kim Gi-dong. I would've just preferred the KFA give Bento the 4 years instead of some stupid 1+3 deal, but you can never expect them to do something right for once can you?

You posted "Also, why would you want to bother Hong Myung-bo to do the national team job..." so I thought you were asking me since since my post was quoted but anyways, all good.

I wouldn't put it past the KFA to ask STY to resign so they don't have to pay Indonesia a dime (and sadly, I don't think STY would put up a fight or strongly oppose either)

Oooft. He likes defensive football, which is useful at World Cups. At least Korea have better players than Mexico (except at DM).

I wish the Hyundai Motors chairman was the KFA Head instead since Hyundai is the one that's most involved and one of the family members has typically been the KFA Head. Instead we get the Hyundai Development and Construction guy. I mean just look at the performance between the various "Hyundai" teams in the domestic league. Hyundai Motors owned Jeonbuk & Hyundai Heavy Industries owned Ulsan are 1&2 in the K1 and have been for quite some time. These are the most well funded and well equipped. Meanwhile 정멍규's own Busan I'Park (i.e owned by HDC) came 2nd last in K2.....

Quite jealous of the SSG Landers Baseball Team since their owner(chairman of SSG) is super invested into his team(he wanted a team very bad and bought SK Wyverns) and receptive his players' advice (particularly former MLB player Choo Shin-Soo) to improve things. Kind of like a Korean Mark Cuban. I wonder if he's interested in soccer....

Yeah, there are teams that have proper corporate funding/investments, while the KFA is still crying about budget; I mean we'd have a different outlook of the KFA by now. The only thing 정몽규 has ever changed during the entire 9 years as the president of the KFA was changing the association's logo, but everything else remains the same. He doesn't give a flying rip about football/Korean football.

Kim Byung-ji stated that they will go with a 2+2 contract instead of a 4 year contract for the next knt manager.
