I think folks are being pretty harsh on Canada here.

Their group was two teams that have made the quarterfinals............as well as the #2 team in the FIFA rankings.

So yes, they didn't get any points.

That's the kind of competition you can face at the World Cup.

Nothing a team does in CONCACAF really prepares a squad for that. What does? Playing against them in a tournament like this and gaining experience.

People are sassy because Canadian fans gloated online after their Concacaf qualifying success.

Every fan base hates it when another fan base acts exactly the same way their own fan base has acted in the past. Their annoyance/anger taints their view after that. Just ask Mexican fans how they feel about the USA.

    Shrug.
I think MOST American fans root for Canada as long as they're not playing the USMNT. The animosity really hasn't built up from that qualifying campaign. Mexico is the be-all and end-all rival, and Canada will never come close.

I think some of it has to do with the rapid rise of Canada. Some fans might feel threatened. Finally getting the better of Mexico when suddenly a new contender shows up.

The US and Mexico have been going at it for many years though, unfortunately, it's like the first time Canada had some decent success a large chunk of the online fanbase went mental. It's like the meme video of the table tennis player going on this long, elaborate taunt after scoring the point and they show he is losing like 12-1. It'll pass at some point, it's just a bit odd.

Indeed. Canada has beaten the USMNT twice since 1985.

The hammer doesn't consider the nail a rival.

The animosity simply isn't there from the US side yet. It'll come eventually if there are some more highly contested matches.

After living 14 years in Canada I think "the problem with Canada" is an overall lack of aggressiveness and ambition.

If we make a graph money spent vs. sporting achievements, Canada would rank close to the bottom. Canada is the anti-Australia, bad at 90%+ of the sports practiced.

I blame the society. There is not enough angst, not enough anger, not enough misery, not enough wish to accumulate useless metallic objects.

These people are far too relaxed. And it's not even the pot. To succeed in sports, they could use more unhappiness. They're just too damn chill and polite.

Only ice hockey gets them going, they even rioted over it once.

First Croatia and now Morocco, looks like group F really was the group of death. That was much needed experience for our team

Morocco hasn't been a picture of dominance, rather survival.

They've also only given up one goal in the competition, which was an Own Goal. Defensively they've been dominant. They know who they are, and play accordingly.

Certainly. They've also now scored 5 goals in 5 total matches, two of them coming against Canada. This isn't a juggernaut. It's a good team that has had things go their way. Still, they didn't need all the bounces to go their way to get by Canada.

Morocco needed to work for it though. Wasn't a cake walk. On paper (obviously) group F was the toughest.

Do you know what group of death means? Belgium and Canada weren’t competitive in the group stage. You need more than 2 competitive teams for it to be a group of death.

So Morocco has now shut out Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and Croatia.
Canada has been the only team to score against them.

I watched the Canada versus Belgium match. Canada was the better team in that game too.

So I think we should just ease off the Canada "wasn't competitive" nonsense.
At this level, there are fine margins in every game. We see that in every stage.
They were good, but not good enough against TWO SEMIFINALSTS and the #2 ranked team in the World. For Pete's sake..........................
