I'd say more like Shearer, but with some reservation because Nordahl did seem quite a powerful runner, and maybe was quicker before most of the available footage we have.

To be clear, I'm specifically thinking of Blackburn Shearer here. Was Nordahl much of a battering-ram type dribbler that Shearer was at all? Like, that's one of the most underrated aspect of young Shearer, I think, the fact that he was quite capable as a ball carrier because he had decent technique, very strong, and good speed.

There seem to be glimpses of that kind of thing from Nordahl, but like I say most of the footage is from post 1948. Some reports suggest he still scored that kind of goal for Milan IIRC.

In think overall he seems to have been more akin to Shearer than Haaland anyway (also considering that he was right footed and shooting from around the edge of the box seems to have been a big asset), but it's possible I guess he was fast (faster than young Shearer) in his relatively younger days maybe, and he might have been more stocky in build than Shearer, so could be unusually powerful (like Haaland) maybe, as well as a good close range finisher I guess.

Young Shearer might be the most agile on the turn I'd suspect, out of the 3 of them (for turning and shooting, or just turning in general play), but like I say footage of young Nordahl is very scarce and limited.

I would say shearer dropped deeper at times and contributed as well as acting as a back to goal target man

haaland is just a freak. Not a great technician but tall, fast and strong with a great idea of when to run in behind

modern day poacher with more power to his game

it would have to be between Ronaldo 1997/98 and Romario 1993/94 but it depends on the type of team I am setting up.

In brazil ( to me in brazil Reinaldo was the best . He have all - skills , power, intelligence , etc.He plays easily in a top european team these days or in the last 30 yrs . If he was a lucky guy and do not have a lot of injuries in this prime he will be superior than romario and ronaldo. He will god as great as pele (zico told it ) . He was ronaldo before ronaldo in that time

    zico talking about reinaldo

    Reinaldo
    Romario
    Careca
    Ronaldo
    Roberto Dinamite

In South America /North America ( in south america every name below was a "matador". But when i was young i not see something as Fernando Morena)

    Fernando Morena
    Mario kempes
    Roberto Cabanas
    Marco Etcheverry
    Hugo Sanchez

In Europe( i was a big fan of van basten. But to me El Buitre was my favourite when i was young)

    Fernando Gomes
    Butragueno
    Van basten
    Igor belanov
    Jean Pierre Papin
    Jurgen Klismann
    Rudi Voeller
    Preben Elkjaer

I’ll give this player an honourable mention

Vialli was one of the legends of Sampdorias legendary Serie A campaign in 1990/91 when it was actually the best league in the world

He won major titles for every club team he represented
Vialli was a prolific goal scorer for his time and had more strings to his box then many centre fowards of that era

One of the best Italian strikers of all time and one of the best strikers in the world at his peak

    Rest in peace

Two legendary players from the 1990s Serie A have passed away in the space of two weeks
    sinsia mihajlovic and Luca vialli

They were not even that old relatively speaking which makes it more of a shock

I still think Gerd Muller would put the ball in the net with greater frequency (as I saw Romario miss chances too; the difference with Gerd Muller it is not a statistical conclusion). However, the finishing range Romario had, his ability and control on the ball, ability to create and score on his own, and his artistry was far greater.

It is so difficult to even come up with a comp. Aguero is the usual comp I see but he's like an alpha version that somehow came out after the full game was already released and discontinued.

The best way to recreate Romario is probably to take a highly athletic and talented no.10 and put him in the Blue Lock program :ROFLMAO:

The problem with Romário is that he spent around 90% of his career in weaker leagues like Brasileirão and Eredivisie. And the only season he played in a top 5 league in Europe, he wasn't all that (compared to other "scorers" who achieved even more impressive numbers in considerably stronger leagues)

In his Barca season, he did score 30 goals to become the Pichichi, scoring at over 0.9 goals per game. Pichichis a few seasons before or after did not score that many or at that rate in La Liga (R9 scored at that rate a few seasons later). Also, consider that the rules were different back in the day, with the 3-foreigners restriction. Hence, it wasn't easy to move around clubs/countries, and the concept of top 5 leagues wasn't really there then. Strengths and resources were relatively more generally distributed (not polarized like nowadays). The Brazilian league wasn't much weaker either (consider how treble-winning Man U got dismantled in Brazil or Sao Paulo's domination earlier in the decade).

Also consider that Romario generally delivered when he was called for Brazil; for example, the 2 goals he scored against Uruguay in a must-win World Cup qualifier. He was great in the international tournaments he played (except the World Cup final). After winning the World Cup in 1994, he totally lost interest in playing outside of Brazil or even playing for Brazil (after 1994, he played again for Brazil in 1997). It seemed like there was nothing left for him to play for after winning the ultimate prize (consider how big an achievement it was as Brazil did not win for 24 years; I guess the same thing would happen to Neymar if he won the trophy this time). Later on, Romario played around the world attempting to break the 1000 goals barrier. He won South American Player of the Year at 34/35 years and was the Brazilian League top scorer at 39 years of age!

He showed throughout his career that he could dominate against big teams and in big tournaments. However, his attitude was definitely suspect. He created lots of problems for coaches and said and did whatever he wanted to; sometimes he got away with it because of his talent while at other times, it hurt his legacy. For example, he could have played more for Brazil, especially more World Cups (his case is odd like that of Cruyff's, wherein such a great player has technically played only 1 World Cup).

Tbf, the Dutch teams were quite strong during the late 80s and early 90s. Romario did join a European Cup champion in PSV, after all.

1- This information is incorrect. Usually the top scorer in LaLiga scored around 30 goals in every season.
    91/92: Manolo 27 goals
    92/93: Bebeto 29 goals
    93/94: Romário 30 goals
    94/95: Zamorano 28 goals
    95/96: Pizzi 31 goals
    96/97: Ronaldo 34 goals
As you can see, he wasn't that extra-class.
It is interesting that you mention that at that time resources were more distributed and not so polarized when Romário played in the "Barcelona Dream team" with Stoichkov, Laudrup, and Koeman. That Barcelona scored 91 goals in LaLiga. 20 more than any other team.

2- I think it's not so much that he lost interest in playing for the national team. In 98 he got injured playing futvoley before the tournament. And in 2002 he wanted to play but got into trouble with the coach. The point about reaching the top trophy has nothing to do with it. Zidane continued playing in Europe and for the national team after winning the WC in 98. R9 continued playing in Europe and for the national team after winning the cup in 2002. About reaching 1000 goals, it makes sense that he returned to Brazil because it is much easier to reach that mark there than in Europe. Winning the best player in South America at the age of 34 is quite an achievement. But who were the competitors? Riquelme? Palermo?

According to clubelo, the Eredivisie was the 7th strongest league in Europe in 1990 in average elo rating.

1- I gues @Doc_Exec was talking about goal averages. I mean, Romario played 33 games and scored 30 goals (also provided 8 or 10 assists). He did not take any pk, although having earned some of them. And the quality of the goals is out of this world. It was not a ordinary season by no means.

On the other hand, he really had an attitude problem, which resemble Neymar recent issues a bit. He also had multiples mini injuries through his career, missing many games. He was suspended for some games in La Liga 93/94 for punching Simeone in the face; his father was kidnapped for 6 days in Rio de Janeiro during 93/94 season too; anyway, he was an unstable character, who came from an unstable environment.

    https://www1.folha.uol.com.br/fsp/1994/5/10/esporte/12.html

2- He wasn't interested in playing for the national team during the years after the WC. He said recently he was going through a tough divorce in the period and wasn't mentally fit to play for the national team. I remember an interview when he said he could make a exception for the Olympics games in 96, since Brazil never had won the gold medal in football there and the defeat in Seoul´88 final was his biggest loss in football, according to himself (he scored the first goal in the game, but URSS made a comeback (1-2).

    https://www1.folha.uol.com.br/fsp/1995/6/09/esporte/11.html

In 1997 he was interested in play for the NT again and Ronaldo and him made a great duo. Unfortunately, he got an injury in Carioca state match in 1998 (not in a futvolley game) and missed the WC98.
