Bento's job as the manager for the knt is done.

Farewell to you and your coaching staff, and especially to your family. The fact that you've become the first ever manager to even stick to a 4 year contract and that you've also become the second foreign manager after Hiddink to lead the team to the Round of 16 at the WC is something to be absolutely proud of, not to mention that you also done it with an unfit team as well.

The time our players spent together with you, having built a special bond and a strong team chemistry, it definitely showed at the WC that we can fight through and through even against the best teams. So, hats off to you, I hope you have a safe trip back home and stay rest assured, you deserve it, and I wish you well on your next journey as a manager.

Cho GueSung will not amount to too much. He reminds me of Cho JaeJin. He will be a good utility player and will have a few more WCs. But I don't think he will ever be a star player. I have seen this before. Cho JaeJin was linked to a few European clubs in 2006. Not much happened. Probably not successful even if he went to Europe. The Korean squad is getting smaller. Typical "target" style attackers are getting rarer. Park Chu Young though not a typical No 9 was the last big name NT player who could fill that role. He was not very tall but had an exceptional vertical leap. I like Cho Guesung because he is bucking the trend. But I am afraid that he won't really become a star player.

He's a man of character. I personally didn't agree with the direction he set for the team, but he was a consummate professional and a pleasure to have in the organization. I think the most valuable legacy he will leave on the modern KNT is the standard of professionalism he has set as manager. We haven't seen that high of a standard in quite a while, and that includes most of the foreign managers we've had since Hiddink. Wish the best for him in his future, he gave it his all for this team.

I think he’s going to be good just because almost every shot he hit was on target - shows his talent. And he showed some flashes of good passing although I’m not sure if that will ever get unlocked due to his poor mobility. I’m thinking he’s around a Lee Donggook level of talent which, as you say, may not bode well for his European career, but 100 caps is a huge national team impact

Thank you, Korean people and KNT, for making me scream in joy, for making me feel proud in good sportsmen. And for making me cry right now.
I’ve been unable to cry for years. I have depression. But watching unity and fighting spirit, remembering the group stage comebacks broke the seal on my heart. I might be healing thanks to you all.

Regarding the future of KNT, I believe the next manager should be selected having in mind the qualities of Korea’s standout players. Two wingers, a central AM, but also a target man. Flexibility will be needed.

Years ago, around 2010, I posted that it was a golden age never to come again. Park Jisung, Park Juyoung, Ki Sungyong, Lee Chungyong were there. Ku Jacheol was coming on though not on the 2010 WC squad. Ji Dongwon looked to be a good prospect. Nam Taehui as well. Even Suk Hyonjoon. We also had Lee YoungPyo and Cha Doori for full backs. Son Heung Min was under the radar, an 18 years old boy in Germany.

It was mushy and overly sentimental BS that is quite embarrassing now. We believed that Koreans had something special; memories of 2002 vouched for that. And that something special is best manifested on the soccer field, we believed. Every glorious victory on the soccer field is a vindication of that belief.

The majority of then up and coming young prospects were just flops. Ji Dongwon - disappointing career, Suk Hyonjoon even worse, Nam Taehui so so career. Ku, Ki and Blue Dragon did OK but not as great as we thought. One certainly hoped for a better future when Ku won the golden boot and Ji won the silver boot at 2011 Asian Cup. Good players come and go. Great players eventually retire. For a mediocre soccer culture like Korea a true Golden age is difficult to come by.

Now we have something similar. We have Son who will be available for another 4-5 years. Lee KangIn, Kim Minjae... we think we are enough to earn the respect of the world. But I think not. Nothing much has changed and nothing will in the future. Korea will make the round of 16 every 8-12 years. Now that the format has changed to 48 teams, I say Korea will make R32 70-80percent of time. But R16 will be every 8-12 years. Korea will reach the semifinal again eventually but it will take a very long time.

Lee Kang In will be a very good player but probably not a great player. One needs to temper the expectation to fit the reality. Other lesser prospects will be even more disappointing. It always has been that way and always will.

P.S. I am pissed that Son HM's WC career is over like this. He has another WC but this is the last time he is effective. He may score a goal in 2026 much like Honda did in 2018 but it is... over for him. Too bad.
Son HM's club career will be in sharp decline as well. Though the injury is not his fault, his Brazilian Totten teammate on the same position did so much better in this WC than he did, so Son will lose confidence and the fans will demand Son be benched.

He went back into retirement again shortly after returning to his playing career with K4 club team Seoul Jungnang FC. He also started his coaching career with another K4 club team Pyeongtaek Citizen FC whom he briefly played for before going into his first retirement.

It's quite sad and unfortunate to see one of our Barca trio's career hit rock bottom after his brief stint with Asteras Tripolis. I was happy to see him back in Korea with Pohang thinking he'd kick start his playing career, but he also struggled there before he ended up at K4 Pyeongtaek Citizen and ultimately going into his first retirement at such a young age. As mentioned above, he started his coaching career with Pyeongtaek's youth team early this year but he expressed his desire to play football again, so he joined Seoul Jungnang FC sometime around May, but he then left the club and went into retirement again after struggling to get any minutes with the club.

Poor kid is only 24 and was such a promising winger, also looked to be another option at FB, but given his career going nowhere, it feels bad man but the least he doesn't have to worry about military service. I truly hope he doesn't give up and fight his way to somehow revive his career again.

^ lots of talk right now on ig and twt about this.

rumor mill has been saying that KFA did a piss poor job of caring for the players during the world cup (although no surprise there lol). ahn duksoo, son's personal care staff, has been saying for the last few days in his stories and posts that he's gonna put KFA on blast for what a horrific job they've done lol.

KFA provided several terrible medical and PT staff, who were doing nothing to help the players recover after and in between matches. seems it got to the point where son's father paid out-of-pocket himself to get ahn duksoo a hotel room, and it was ahn duksoo (alongside his 2 colleagues song youngsik and lee chulhee) who basically took over all the recovery care for the players right out of the hotel room son's father paid for.

he hasn't spilled all the tea yet but so many of our players have repped his post(s) already. everyone's just waiting for the rest of the story to come out. :alien:

KFA will never fail to disappoint.

Lee Jae-sung to undergo an operation on his ankle. He was originally supposed to get it done sooner, but for the sake of the team and the WC he had it postponed.

Jesus this kid literally played and fought through the pain, what massive 투혼 he has.

I am sure KFA doctors have their own stories to tell. 안덕수 appears a bit unstable. 같잖은 정의감 is always funny. 같잖은 정의감 leads to and stems from 음모론. I cannot imagine that medical doctors went there to make money.

I remember the news saying that Hiddink was interested in managing the Korean team again.

A year later, the KFA claimed that they never received any word from Hiddink on this. It makes me wonder about the KFA's other sketchy actions. It seems that certain players get chosen over the better players for ulterior motives.

This is very noticeable with the Korean women's national team. The Korean team won the 2010 U-17 Women's World Cup. Most of the Korean players in this tournament never appeared in the national team afterwards. It started to go downhill for the Korean women's national team after that. And Korea's best woman goalkeeper, Yoon Young-geul, usually gets benched. She blocked all of the US's shots on target in a friendly last year. We can clearly see the difference when another goalkeeper played in the second friendly with the US 6 days later. The goalkeeper who made critical errors in numerous games got chosen to play. Korea lost to the US 6-0 in this second friendly. It's strange that this goalkeeper usually gets chosen to play over Yoon.

Korea's speedskating and volleyball are also notorious for their various scandals.

That hypocrite 호로곤 lied through his teeth while saying Hiddink was in the wrong for even suggesting to manage the knt.
