I, for one, am happy the Iowa caucus/first of the nation is over. This article makes the right points. This thing was a myth and deserves to be scrapped.

Iowa Caucuses We’re Built on a Myth
Associated Press: “The caucuses and their outsize importance were largely an exercise in myth-making, that candidates could earn a path to the White House by meeting voters in person where they live, and earnest, civic-minded Midwesterners would brave the winter cold to stand sometimes for hours to discuss issues and literally stand for their candidate.”

“As the caucuses have played out, the flaws have become glaring. First among them: The state’s Democrats botched the count in 2020, leaving an embarrassing muddle. But there were more. Since 2008, the state’s political makeup has changed dramatically, from a reliable swing state to solidly Republican. And with the Democratic Party increasingly becoming a party of diversity, Iowa’s lack of it left the state without much of a rationale for leading the way.”

Well the winner will have more latitude (than the US) in how domestic terrorists can or should be handled

    There….I said it

I was looking at an old thread on here from the first Obama term and it was interesting the conservatives of yore were making the kind of discredited economic arguments that republicans themselves have now largely abandoned

What is interesting about that is it appears to be a global trend where the right has simply abandoned long held ideas or quietly dropped them (climate cough cough) and there is no accounting for that - rather then just adopt nakedly reactionary positions because mah woke socialist threat!!

We are seeing that with Trump now. Even trump calling to end the constitution is not disqualifying. Rather they just move on to the next guy, while never having to account for the fiasco.

Same happened in the UK with Brexit/Boris

Indeed in the British right, you can even campaign against your own government of 5 seconds ago without irony

It's got to be difficult ,almost impossible to run in a actual democratic polity as an authoritarian.
Violent overthrow is most likely path to success.
    Hence the real 2A worship.

Also what is kind of fascinating looking back is we saw those arguments of 10 years ago in the context of Reagan/Bush so it was more annoying people being wrong about stuff

But looking at them in the context of a post jan 6 world, it is a pretty obvious that the extremism was there all along.

What has happened, is they don't bother with the dumb arguments anymore on economics, climate etc. Now they just claim they need unlimited power, and ignore the arguments they used to make

Coming soon "Trump who? I always was a DeSantis fan"

Just look how many loved Dubya & Cheney and were bloodthirsty after 9/11. 15 years on many Republicans call them globalists and despise them as much as Democrats do.

That's the thing about Natcon - you no longer have to have a consistent set of principles e.g about free markets.

Rather you use state power to impose the bestest results

Yeah: That's something all the Never Trumpers have been noticing. Hell, even a National Review writer noticed that tendency at the last one.

It’s amazing to me that this farce is still ongoing and comes down to another vote.
It’s a good thing that blacks get to choose the black man for the job.
Yet whites are simply voting because one has a (R) behind his name

“This race is also significant as it is the first time that two Black men, each viewed very differently by Georgia’s Black community, are major party nominees vying for a seat in the Senate. Exit polls from November 9 indicated that 90% of Black people voted for Warnock, while 70% of White people voted for Herschel Walker, a former football star who played at the University of Georgia and then in the NFL for 12 seasons. According to Ekovich, Walker is popular among many White voters because he “conforms to their caricature of what a Black man is like, for instance, that he is abusive towards women.”

The authoritarian views the terms freedom and liberty as referring to the right of the strongest to act as they deem fit to maintain their position, without reference to any societal norms.

    That's it.Thats the principle.

Oh well that’s it then. Do we vote on it or does Trump just get to make one “Just by thinking it up” to save us the bother.

If they'd spent ten minutes listening to Rush Limbaugh or watching Fox News or any other outlet on the Right Wing discontent factory, they would have known. But no. . .
