I was looking at an old thread on here from the first Obama term and it was interesting the conservatives of yore were making the kind of discredited economic arguments that republicans themselves have now largely abandoned What is interesting about that is it appears to be a global trend where the right has simply abandoned long held ideas or quietly dropped them (climate cough cough) and there is no accounting for that - rather then just adopt nakedly reactionary positions because mah woke socialist threat!! We are seeing that with Trump now. Even trump calling to end the constitution is not disqualifying. Rather they just move on to the next guy, while never having to account for the fiasco. Also what is kind of fascinating looking back is we saw those arguments of 10 years ago in the context of Reagan/Bush so it was more annoying people being wrong about stuff But looking at them in the context of a post jan 6 world, it is a pretty obvious that the extremism was there all along.
