Qatar and Canada should play each other for a runoff on the worst team in the tournament

You wouldn't be here if you weren't in pain. You're the one looking for a confrontation. As for us, we weren't supposed to be here. As for Canada not impressing the world, that's your personal opinion, which quite frankly means nothing when actual experts said the opposite.

Thierry Henry or "Salty Altidore"? That's a tough one...;)

1 step at a time, it was our first time in 36 years and we went back with no domestic league prior to that cycle.

I recall the US coming back to the World Cup in 1990 after 40 years in the same set of circumstances, what was their record? Same, but they improved. It will be the same for us

I understand it can be tempting to engage in this sort of back-and-forth. We all fall victim to it sometimes. Try to keep it classy.

Honestly no need to talk trash to Canada about the World Cup.

We have actual games against them likely to come up next summer in both Nations League and Gold Cup next summer.

I hope Kone is being properly advised with his best interests in mind. I think going to the Championship is very risky and not the recommended route for young players. Maybe Kone will rise above the doubt, but it won't be easy.

There will be more European moves for Canadian players being announced soon.

This is the next step required to raise the standard of our national team.

FC Montreal will receive at least 16 million dollars plus in transfer money for 2 Canadians and 1 American this offseason. More deals can still happen. They've been very shrewd with intra-MLS transfers over the past year or two. Very interesting.

I think MLS is still at the point where it seems like there’s a need for a move to an intermediate league in Europe first, whether it’s the Championship or Belgium or somewhere else.

I don’t think the Championship is necessarily a bad move, as it’s worked out well for Trusty, and Watford has a legit chance to be promoted.

Why again did Larin move to a club in which he barely played which ultimately screwed up his form for the NT?

Distractions? I dunno. I thought you guys played well the first game but maybe you just need more fine tuning. To me it’s a competition level thing, Belgium/Croatia are just a tier better.

I wonder how much of our opinion about how Canada played has nothing to do with on the field but with the boneheaded comment Herdman made?
Canada has a lot to build on and some very dynamic players. A lot of good came out of this tournament for them.

The family that owns Watford also owns Udinese in Italy. This is their model. Buy uber talented players that need polishing/seasoning while the price is low, and then sell them to a bigger club for a profit. Kone is in good hands. I'm actually surprised Saputo doesn't take more advantage of his ownership of Bologna. Transfer/loan promising young Canadians there, and then sell them on.

I watched Bologna vs AC Milan in person a few months ago. I'm glad he's not going there. They are poor.

What's up with the hate toward Canada? A strong Canada is better for the US.

Yeah, the US is gonna need a quality opponent for friendlies the next 4 years.....plus a strong Canada makes the Gold Cup more interesting, and the Nations League more competitive.

It’s not hate towards Canada. Just a dislike of some of its more self-important fans on here.

I don't know if they "surprised" anybody.

People all over the world were picking them as a "dark horse" based on some really talented players. People know about David, Davies, and those guys.

They were in a REALLY tough group. #2 and #7 teams in the World, and Morocco has some really nice talent as well. [Ziyech and those guys.]

So Canada is in the place the US was a while ago. Really nice level of talent, but not enough TOP, TOP players all over the field to compete against the truly elite nations. Cuz you can have Davies, David, Eustaquio, etc....................but your defenders, keepers, backups, etc. need to be at that level too if you expect to compete at the World Cup level. And by the way, even a player like Eustaquio may be inferior to the oppenent you're facing if you're going up against a top 8 team.

So Canada should come home with their heads held high from a really great improvement this cycle. But the next step is even harder. The US has been investing for a heck of a long time, and still has holes they need to fill if they expect to compete with the top 8.

I got a little hate for Canada, some hate for Mexico, a little bit of hate goes a long way.

not sure why a Canadian fans are whining about other teams fans not liking their team. But then I remember they haven’t been watching soccer for longer than 18 months or so.

I do think Canada underperformed a little bit at this WC. But, it's not surprising, given where they are as a national team program, and that their national league is only a few years old. They're sort of where the US was 25 or so years ago. They're going to improve, but they need to learn to walk before they run.

One thing Canada has in common with the US, though, is they too have a bunch of completely delusional fans who think their NT is better than it is.
