Or they could actually be saying what they really feel. Which is more likely, they are speaking truthfully or lying? Think your answer says more about you then them.

I'm not sure that he'd be "better" than Gregg, but I was very impressed with what Hugo Perez did this cycle with El Salvador, and he had very good relationship with this group when they were kids, IIRC. It would be interesting to see how Perez set this team up... but again, I'm not 100% sure that he's "better" than Gregg in terms of preparation and player management.

Yep. Agreed. Not finding space for Gio / his choices at striker were my biggest complaint, but it's a big thing when you are a soccer coach and your biggest job is to pick the team. We only went with our +Gio "death" lineup for like, what, 20 minutes or less before he pulled Weah for Haji Wright? Either Weah or Reyna would have finished that golden opportunity Wright had. Even a tired Weah would have finished it.

Where also was Busio to come in when our midfielders get tired? Our lack of depth was partly down to Gregg. Reyna, Aaronson, Busio, and LDLT all could have had more minutes.

Also: Imagine a world where Pulisic buries his opportunity in minute 2. Pulisic is usually going to score from there. It likely would have changed the game, and I suspect in that case we might have made it to OT (before losing, but still).

I think you have claimed to be in your 40s. I find it sad that a grown man can't think for himself and put forth the opinion of guys who work for a company that has been pushing MLS and USMNT with no criticism.

My views are from watching the team play and the coaches decisions and forming my own opinion. Pretty impressive for a 5 year old. I could see that Jesus Ferriera was crap. I could see that Zimmerman made it hard playing out of the back just like it was easy to see CCV helped it in thr prior game. It wasn't surprising most of the guys ran out of steam after running them into the ground during the group phase.

If I were to try to appeal to authority, I certainly wouldn't pick the two guys you chose. Their opinions have historically crqp along with who their boss is. Van Gaal's comments weren't too kind to Berhalter. Not quite the soccer mind of Lalas.

Just curious, is the point of the people who say Weah can't play at the 9 position that he can only play on the right side of the pitch but somehow can't play more centrally? Didn't his goal vs. Wales come in the center, and didn't his (waived off) goal vs. Iran start with a run from the center and finish with a goal on the left side? His goal at Jamaica was also in the center/left. What is the evidence that Weah can't play any more when he's central?

Personally I'm not a fan of Aaronson at this point. He lacks maturity, keeps the ball too long and when he passes, he seldom chooses the best option. He's a promising young guy whose time is not here yet.

Reyna is another guy who wasn't ready. He didn't play for months, and looked out of place on his return. There's a reason he was demoted to a sub role with Dortmund. He only looked good against relegation fodder like Bochum or Stuttgart.

What better strikers could have Berhalter brought? The entire pool of strikers is trash. Everybody knew the goals were not coming from players like Sargent or Haji or whoever.

Weah has been playing wide for a long time. Changing him to striker would have confused him, he did well as a wing/wide forward.

Reyna and Aaronson don't play striker or "false 9."

The MMA midfield was superb, but got tired. The best player we had after MMA was Acosta, and that was already a significant drop. We just didn't have bench.

Considering the lack of solid CBs and the rusty first keeper, we did better than I expected. With no top level striker coming through the ranks and the CB situation unlikely to improve much, I don't expect us to last longer than the R16 next WC, no matter who is coaching.

Wide players in the modern game often "cut in": it's what Weah does in Lille too.

Counterpoint: In fact Reyna has been back for months, and started two matches vs. Man City in the Champion's League for Dortmund.

Exactly. What's true is it would have been nice had Berhalter experimented first with having Weah up top, or in a 4-4-2 with Pulisic & Weah, etc. first, and maybe had him practice, or trained on his positioning. But, having guys up top who are confident in front of goal is huge.

I was just thinking: Pulisic missed his big chance in the CL final & vs. the Dutch. Those misses are probably going to haunt him. Hopefully, in a good way.

Wait, are you saying guys who have zero goals and assists in Seria B (Busio) and are 1 team above the relegation zone in La Liga, who never plays (De La Torre) are the answer? WTF
This is a perfect example of why fans don't make these decisions.

I will never understand you guys saying you don't understand and then not listening to the explanation. I am sure I have explained it to you before. To be honest, it is shocking that somebody doesn't understand that continually wasting minutes on poor players hurts a team.

I only brought up 2019 because you were making false claims about the pool when Berhalter took over. I can, and will in the future, highlight Berhalter malpractice in all of his years as a coach. His mistakes in 2019 compounded mistakes in later years. Going into the WC, the two biggest complaints I saw were lack of time the top player had been on the field together and lack of depth. Berhalter continually playing MLS players contributed to both of those issues.

MLS players have a been a drain on the players all cycle with exception of the first half against Iran. Ferriera wasn't the sole cause of yesterday's loss. Just a small piece. All of Berhalters mistakes while in charge had an impact on yesterday.

MLS players had a pretty crappy tournament. Weird time to act like they belong when pretty much all of them showed that they don't belong at this level. Id get rid of every single one of them and Wright and start looking for real depth and guys who could challenge our starters.

He got replaced after one hour in the Copenhagen game for a reason. If you remember, at that point Dortmund had the most injured players of any Bundesliga team: Dahoud was out with a dislocated shoulder, Guerreiro was out, Haller was out, Reus was out...

They managed two ties only, and that sealed their fate as #2 in the group. Going into that last window of games they had a shot, they only needed to win at home versus City and away to Copenhagen, both doable.

With so many injuries and Reyna starting, they only got two draws.

Our failure against the Dutch was naïveté. After watching Canada in this Cup, I’ve done a 180 on Herdman. Hard, hard pass. He would exacerbate what was our biggest failing when we lost.

How many MLS players did Berhalter try to end with non en looking the part? None of those guys were good enough. Must be unhinged to hate a coach who failed to find our best roster and prepare the team because he was "marketing" crappy MLS players.

I’d like to see Perez get an MLS job or coach Canada. I like the idea of him as the USMNT coach in the future, I just want to see him in some different situations first.

You should follow his YA thread. He’s a nice player and all, and young enough that he might get to a level where he can help us in 2026, but leaving him off of this roster was a no brainer. I wonder about people who think Busio was a realistic option. You come across as someone pulling names at random just to bash GGG.
    Agreed. People be crazy.

I'll admit I didn't watch those games. I see he's only started six matches since being back, but Dortmund has been super careful with him & his minutes. At first they were playing him only at home, and not even taking him on road matches. Berhalter may have been thinking something similar given his injury history.

I think a great definition of Unhinged is stating in writing you hate someone you have never met.

And considering Dortmund injury list during that time, it's surprising they didn't play Gio more. Unless it was clear he was not 100%.

No, I'm not saying they are the answer.

Are you saying Jordan Morris, Hajii Wright, & Shaq Moore were better in qualifying than Busio & LDLT?
