He was misquoted. He meant to say “My teams backpass so much the opponents get bored and fall asleep.”

:D haha Covelo wrote the article. If he misquoted himself, he is a real genius.

Well, there are many things we like but we don't get.
I also highly doubt the team he picked up mid-season had the capability to play that style.

I actually enjoyed reading the article and learned a little bit of things behind the scene.

It looks like Covelo joined before MA. He mentioned there was a manual for the coaches already on how the teams should play at different levels. I think he mentioned possession and high press. Then when MA came, they had to tweak it with man-marking.

I thought it was a good read, don't care what all the haters say :). I mean we have so little information about what's going on. So now I know that they did have a proposed "game model" under Jesse from the early days, and they had to adapt to Matias's man-marking system. But he didn't make that out to be a huge deal. I notice the he pretty much skipped over Stahre. Not sure how Stahre's style of play meshed with what they were trying to do. He was very much not a possession guy. My guess is that was not a good "mesh".

In the end I think he gave an honest assessment of his time with the Quakes (well in the end, didn't move the needle that much but we had some good wins and at times I could see the team implementing what I had envisioned). And I appreciate that he remained positive about everything throughout, never really whined about not having the players and stuff like that, and seems he was complimentary and positive about everyone he worked with, including the players.

I haven't heard if Alex is staying with the organization but I was at the stadium last Thurs and we walked to the team offices together , so not sure if he was turning in his
team stuff , company car etc or if he is staying with the organization, I didn't want to bother him and ask.

When I asked Alex in October, he wasn't sure if he would be staying or not.

It sounded more like he wouldn't be staying but who knows if something else changed.

I bet his contract runs until December 31st. Could be in negotiations for a new one. It’s not likely the Quakes have a roll for him coaching a team, but maybe a coordinator of the methodology or perhaps like Wondo he can work with individual players to improve their skills for the next level.

Q has his own secret space in the stadium. Better than a cubicle upstairs with the other staffers.

    Also a Q-mobile. Serious. :)

Not to mention that when he either gives you advice or leaves you some money after a meal (or both), he’s basically given you a Q-tip.

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

As I surmised, Covelo back to his old job as Director of Methodology. :)

As I posted in the Shea Salinas thread, you can't ever have enough technical directors!
