You don't remember until you're reminded, but Romania was such a great team to watch that year. Out on PKs in the quarterfinals. Really a shame. That was such a fun team.
You know what else doesn't get old? Watching Baggio, with his stupid rat tail, sky that PK to lose the World Cup.
Oh, it may have escaped our notice: USA-England is no longer the biggest upset in World Cup history, in terms of pre-game Elo difference between the teams. The new biggest upset is Cameroon over Brazil, as Brazil started the World Cup as #1 by a fairly wide margin over Argentina. 2022 now has two of the three biggest upsets in World Cup history. Cameroon vs Brazil 2022: 574 point difference USA vs England 1950: 513 point difference Saudi Arabia vs Argentina 2022: 508 point difference Ghana vs Czech Republic 2006: 398 point difference (note how much less of an upset this is!)
Goal was against the run of play, but the last 10min have been much more even, honestly kinda favoring the Oranje. Not sure I'm seeing an answer at this point; seems like the US isn't exactly sitting back, but they are focused more on preventing another goal than on trying to create, and hoping they can pounce on a wayward chance at some point

Well having seen his game management skills at the highest level I think it's time to move Berhalter upwards or out. I think he's done an excellent job of transitioning the team to a new generation and changing the approach from bunker ball to high pressure and swift movement but I don't think he's the right person for 2026. I don't think there's any urgency, he could stay on for the Olympics.
