Seriously? I am not a big England fan and Southgate sucks but putting half of those teams ahead of England is just dumb

Uhm well england is only playing one team not half the teams on the list. I happen to believe Senegal might be too physical for England and will cause an upset. If you disagree that's fine. But you can't reference the other teams because England isn't playing them.

Watch de jong at the beginning of that goal. Value of a player who can handle the press. Goal doesn't happen without fdj.

Gakpo playing as a 9 today and looking good so far. Holdup has been great and he looks dangerous every time he runs at the defense.

US have zero competent players in the final third. Pair that with 3 CMs that are only comfortable playing sideways or backwards and this is what you get.

Mckennie is allergic to progressive passing. He kills any build up speed with his backwards passes.

That’s game. This US team doesn’t have 3 goals in them.

Been waiting to see the quality of some of the hyped Euro-based players on the US but have been underwhelmed for the most part, tbh.

Dest with a beautiful run but his shot was woeful.

That's a bummer. Sometimes I hate being right.

The US just sucks. Can't defend, can't score (and I'm not even watching the games, just what you folks are saying).

The issue is deeper. Listen to the half time analysis. None of them talked about fdj handling the initial press to open up the game that ultimately resulted in the cross for the first goal. We don't really value the ball as much and rely more on energy.

Even the second goal, it is not a coincidence that Blind made that run knowing where the ball was going to go. Or tactics tend to rely on us being in your face which is fine but we need to also match it with better strategy and valuing and smarter use of the ball.

Even Lalas. The loudest mouth in the studio with very little substance. Great passion great energy but not very insightful and not deeper thoughts on reading and understanding of strategy of games. Hate to say but we do have a long way to go and can't win these kind of games based on pure energy and effort in a consistent manner.

The mids might play in Europe, but they arent know for their football abilities or IQ.

    Just their energy and athleticism.

They need to find a way to use that energy and athleticism and add technique and raise the IQ.

Watch those two little passes again from fdj that slowed the game down that allowed the scorer to sneak in at the back.

Once again, only US goalkeepers come out of tournament with shine. Lol.

I think a number of players did well in the tournament. Lots of defeatist attitudes in here about a team that wasn’t supposed to make it to the knockouts.

If these guys were quicker of mind, I don't think this team is so out of depth. I am not ready to hear the moral victories we are about to get, though.

Still love LvG, though. Can't be mad at him.

I was kind of joking. As I mentioned above, with a little bit more quick thinking in the box, I don't think this team is out right now. Two goals on the FBs switching off. That's about it. Just my opinion.

I thought Ream did well. Adams. I am excited for the future. Weah. Reyna. I am a little bit down on McKennie, though. I was not impressed, tbh.

BUT...you really didn't think the US would qualify from that group?

    And Wales were?

Dest, Cameron Carter Vickers and the goalkeepers.

    Pulisic, Mckennie, Zimmerman were horrible.

Sad thing about tournament football esp WC is that goals and wins will get you out the group, but knockout games tend to be a lot tighter and ANY defensive weakness will be found out.

Just a few switchoffs on tracking is the difference at this level.

For example, if England want to go anywhere now with their defensive issues, they will probably have to go two defensive mids to protect the weak CBs, which means ditching Jude or playing him at #10.

Don't mean to be negative, but never been a WC won recently without a solid defence.

LVG comes into his own now, unlike Southgate he can play the negative / containing football game with some added tactical smarts.

US problem is coaching and tactics, get their coaches working in Europe to learn the nuance of the game. Everyone is comfortable in the MLS.
