Anyone remember ganahal's comment (or was it dellogo) about Lee Kang-in? Well, it looks like the prophecy has been fulfilled, as he grew pube on gochu.

Yeah I still check every once in a while but dang, this forum was my go to when I was a bored single student.

Also, where is Sky? I still remember what a pompous dingleberry he was. Apparently he has a real name?

I am so happy right now. It was so emotional game that I couldn't even eat or drink anything after watching it.

Like many previous comments I was also watching the final minutes of the other game. So long.

Somehow at last Korea had a very crucial win and I am just in joy.

I remember having shared some pictures of my KYG replica jersey from the last world cup. Its nice to see that he scored as well in this game too.

At last Bento's work paid off. I believe Korea can advance further. Fighting.

Despite finishing behind Iran in the same World Cup qualifying group 3 consecutive times, finishing behind Iran in the last Asian Cup and the last World Cup, for the first time in the last 8 years, S. Korea will outrank Iran in the FIFA/ELO rankings after this tournament. The difference ended up being how S. Korea's best player, Son, surrounded by 3 Portuguese players, kept his focus to deliver a brilliant pass in the dying minutes against Portugal, while our best player (who, regardless, we owe a lot to anyway) flopped looking for a penalty in the dying minutes against the US instead of tapping a ball that even with Taremi flopping made it close to the US goal-line.

I accept the verdict of the scoreboard. I always have tried to do so. But for those "scientific minded" posters who are hesitant to accept the scoreboard and group stage advancement as the final arbiter of who were the best and worst teams in Qatar, and want something more objective than their eyes to help them, below are the Sofascore power rankings of the 32 teams after the Group Stage. I have highlighted the ranking of the Asian teams.

    Power rankings
    1 Brazil 2310
    2 France 2123
    3 Argentina 2040
    4 Spain 2006
    5 England 1921
    6 Portugal 1919
    7 Germany 1876
    8 Netherlands1873
    9 Croatia 1758
    10 Belgium1751
    11Denmark 1711
    12 Morocco 1671
    13 Switzerland1666
    14 Uruguay 1658
    15 Poland 1644
    16 USA 1642
    17 Iran 1633
    18 Ecuador 1628
    19 Costa Rica 1613
    20 Senegal 1611
    21 Serbia 1607
    22 Mexico 1603
    23 Australia 1565
    24 Japan 1539

    25 Ghana 1532
    26 Wales 1525

Incidentally, my congratulations to the many S. Korean fans who have shown class. My earlier post had a particular Korean poster ("Fector") specifically in mind. From my vantage point, S. Korea fully deserved advancing. They were better than Ghana that they lost to mostly IMO coincidentally; they fully deserved their draw in the opener against Uruguay, and beat a Portugal side who might have clinched already and rested a few starters, but in no way wanted to lose. And beat them fair and square in an evenly contested match.

You really do love numbers. So I looked up average IQs and
    https://www.worlddata.info/iq-by-country.php

    Iran's is 84.

Yeah it is bogus but so is every single number you come up with to glorify Iran.

South Korea assistant coach, Sergio Costa:

"We have a lot of courage, we have a lot of heart and we are very happy."

"We played a competitive game, we are very happy to get through to the next round."

"Kang In Lee has a lot of technical qualities, he caused a lot of problems for them."

"All teams prepare well, they all do their research and then the players interpret the system and the individuals make it difficult."

Amazing match. As soon as 6min injury time was declared knew we would have one more chance at an 역전골.

Since the match, im just chilling and having various youtube, 직캠, news, replays, highlights on in the background either at home, car, gym, supermarket etc and the TV has the match on replay at low volume which i turn up when something catches my eye!

This has made my weekend which i am thankful for. Two days of relaxation whilst watching other matches and doing weekend stuff.

On Monday the reality of playing against Brazil (no.1 seed) for the R16 game will hit. But we will go again and we will give it our best shot.

I did catch on a 직캠 of the Korean player celebrations, where KMJ was gingerly jogging rather than running across the pitch with the others. It looked liked 2 days won't be enough. Worried.

Son Heung Min is becoming a real leader. After the 1st early goal by Portugal, you could see him talking to the players not to be discouraged and stay focused. The way he was doing it...I knew then we would equalise before half time.

He is becoming more than the ace of the team. He is doing more than putting his body on the line and giving it his all. He is captaining his team.

    Great interview below.

We had so many leaders in 2002. Everyone stepped up. No one hid. Everyone inspired and motivated themselves and others.

2022 team played well so far but there were stretches of being discouraged, losing focus and showing timidity both in offence and defence.

Lets hope everyone step up on Monday, has gained deep rooted confidence in themselves and be a team that inspires and motivated each other throughout the whole game.

    S. Korea dominated Ghana for 20 minutes and then, the minute Ghana scored, it seemed everyone of the players became spectators for the rest of the half. At the end, S. Korea was all over Ghana and definitely deserved an equalizer for the effort, but if S. Korea falls into a similar tranze against Brazil, it will be another 5:1 loss similar to Iran's 6:2 loss to England.
