Wow!! https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/majo...ions-for-la-galaxy-for-violating-salary-budge Violations related to 2019 and Pavon - $1 million fine - $1 million GAM penalty - can't sign anyone internationally in 2023 secondary window - Klein suspended until end of primary transfer window for sporting duties - te Kleose can't work in MLS without permission
Yikes. These two are bruuuuuutal. I wonder how this came to light? EDIT: This seems like a light punishment for Klein, too. Didn't he basically intentionally defraud the league? (or maybe they're placing the lion's share of the blame on te Kloese?)
The punishment for Klein is the easy part (although I updated the post to indicate it is through the primary transfer window, not January, so it's basically until late April/early May). The real punishment for him is that he is giving AEG a reason to not extend his contract or to fire him for cause. Separately, this means any int'l signings have to be in the primary transfer window
This is EMBARRASSING. This is so gross. Fire the entire FO and be done with it. Not only are they incompetent, but they cheated! And now we’re screwed this season before it even begins. Great!! What an embarrassing organization.
I'll be damned. And per Benny's note above, this could be the time for the club to cut bait on Klein. Inter Miami dismissed their guy when they had similar sanctions imposed here (Miami) a couple years ago.
What it does is put a huge premium on the DP slots since we can't rely on GAM as much to supplement our mid-range players. We'll really need three productive DPs and we can't buy one in the summer. So, this may accelerate any moves to loan out or buy out a DP or two and restock. It might mean the Vazquez departure is really just helping to pay for the GAM fine and not opening up money to sign someone else. It also could hurt us in the MLS trade market because we don't have as much GAM to use as currency.
If there’s a positive, other than Klein getting the boot finally, is that we may have to rely on our young players. I’d like to see some of our young talent get a shot.
It's a severe penalty in terms of roster construction. For instance, last year during the secondary window we signed Brugman, Puig and Caceres (I believe he was shortly after as a free agent). It's a big kick in the nuts to our rebuild.
The Juventes board are currently in line for criminal prosecution for something similar. This is outrageous half a decade of screwing this team through incompetence and now through malevolence. If Klein isn’t out Monday morning he’s not going to go until he chooses to go or the team is sold. He absolutely has to go and if he isn’t I’m not spending another dollar on this team until he is.
How does Kirovski avoid any attention in this matter? This is a catastrophe. In the other thread, there was a good theory that this came up so late because someone leaked proof of it to the league and that a good guess is this is from Pavon's camp after we walked away from him due to his rape allegations. As far as I'm concerned, everyone in our FO that was here in 2019 that has anything to do with team building should be gone.
Was this the Galaxy's way of letting everyone know that Klein got a contract extension? Because it's tough to suspend somone into 2023 if they don't have a contract for 2023.I've asked for clarification. #LAGalaxy #MLS— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) December 3, 2022 But there seems to be an indication, if you read between the lines, that Klein wasn't the primary focus of MLS' investigation.— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) December 3, 2022
I’m furious about this in a way I shouldn’t considering this is a child’s game. But we’re rightly going to be branded as cheats for years to come. I could handle the envious claims of rule making/bending/breaking for signing player like Landon and Beckham, but this is so much different because it’s absolutely indisputable: our front office cheated.
its infuriating, this organization can't even cheat right, Klein never struck me as an upstanding guy, he went up through the executive ranks, a lot faster than anyone should, especially with his inexperience, its been pretty suspect from the beginning. he constructed this abomination of a roster and then bludgeoned any chances of fixing this roster for the foreseeable future and if gets an extension as rumored, this could be the final straw for a lot of Galaxy supporters
We get caught cheating, and unlike the Astros, we didn't even win... How can you cheat and not even have anything to show for it?
This is outrageous. Whether Klein was complicit or not (operating on the theory Te Kloese had more to do with it then him) it happened under Klein’s watch and he needs to be let go. This is disgraceful and hurts the team badly not only for this upcoming season but in years to come due to the tarnished reputation. I’m so angry right now.
putting my conspiracy hat on for crap and giggles what if DTK provided the information to Vanney, he reported it so he could get the Sporting Directors position and Donovan was in on it, leading him to resign from the SD Loyal post to become the Galaxy's new manager, all the while keeping uncle phil distracted by playing a zoom call with klein on a continuous loop and he is none the wiser
Let's kick it up a notch; Vanney leaked the info because he wanted Klein out. He wanted the sporting director for full control. Alternatively, he also has a mulligan for next season: no matter how he does, he's absolved of blame because of this situation.
Why would you want Pavon back? He is performing at a Cabral like level for his club in Brazil. Not to mention that his rape charge still hasn't been settled.
It may also be that the team gets sold to a more ambitious and competent owner. Though I know the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
