That was amazing to watch. Suarez getting his just desserts, the script getting flipped in the last 10 minutes, Ronaldo losing, the wild rush on goals at the end.

And Partey is coming home apparently unscathed.

So if FIFA is rethinking which group format to use in 2026, I doubt they are considering that a lot of this year's WC "chaos" appears to be due to minimal amount of time before the tournament started for teams to prepare (bringing some crazy results in round 1 of the group stages), and also the time of year it's taking place.

IOW, I don't trust FIFA to make the right decision for the fans, which is not new news by any means.

8/10 Arsenal players still in Qatar with White withdrawing for personal reasons and Partey's Ghana being eliminated.

Brazil/Argentina favorites for one semi? England/France vs Spain in the other? Or do the upsets continue?

The Fulham match later this season could be testy given the way Xhaka and Mitrovic were barking at each other towards the end.

it was so weird for me to actively root against ghana moving on since they're one of the teams i usually root for.

rooting for suarez to be eliminated felt absolutely natural. :D

Just caught up with a shit ton of WC on my DVR, and the personal highlight for me was Martinelli.

He took his opportunity by the horns and completely led Brazil's attack, especially in 1T. He went full 90, when his clubmate Jesus had a tepid game and was off in 2T. The only thing Medium Gabi didn't do was bag a goal... he had great SOG's and deserved for one to fall. Alas no.

But he should be proud & psyched. And although he's still probably unlikely to get a ton of minutes in the knockouts, you gotta wonder if Tite sat up and took notice of the prodigy that seems to be blooming before our eyes.

Hmm. Wonder if that happened before or during the game? I’m kind of hoping before, because that might explain his performance a bit.

Edit: I now see from another post that he took a big knock during the game. Was that to his knee? Somehow I missed that

In any case we were likely to get a different Jesus upon his return than we had before WC. At least psychologically. Now we may have another factor. Cross fingers!!

Is this what happens when the US tries to play on the front foot?

Van Gaal got the tactics perfectly. US were naive in defense. Good run though. I was thoroughly entertained.

I knew the US were in trouble when the Dutch players let Ream and Zimmerman have the ball and just give it back to the Dutch players. LvG watched how poor those two were on the ball.

USA did well I thought. Stopped England scoring and had some strong runners

issue always seems to be finishing and technical ability high up the pitch
