I wonder as a coach does he still fall down and writhe in pain when he is hit by a ball during practice?
Houston has a whole video tribute for DMB. We have one retweet for LD. I mean…. You knew this was coming, right?
The same organization that did less to commemorate Landon’s retirement than every other team in the league and failed to do anything but the most cursory promotion for his remaining games? The only slightly surprising thing is LA allegedly hired a Chief Marketing Officer or Senior VP of Marketing. The rot in this club runs deep.
Proud for Landon and DaMarcus - lots of memories, from their first World Cup especially. There was a time they were a dynamic trio with Bobby Convey as well, before the Clint Dempsey years, at least that's my faulty recollection. Great teammates and it's wonderful that they will hit the HOF together. Thanks, Landon, for all the great Galaxy years.
https://www.nationalsoccerhof.com/ Nice little article, and they linked the "surprise" announcement by Clint Dempsey on the Fox set at the World Cup - which made me smile. Pitiful, minimal coverage by the Galaxy.
Landon Donovan steps down as HC of San Diego Loyal and elevated to EVP of Soccer Operations https://www.sdloyal.com/news/2022/1...me-role-as-executive-vp-of-soccer-operations/ As Tony DiCicco's son notes, the timing is a bit odd. Landon Donovan steps down as head coach (they spin it as him being promoted to EVP, Soccer Operations) at SD Loyal.More interesting timing. Maybe this has to do with San Diego resurfacing as a potential expansion market for MLS, and maybe Donovan is centrally involved with that. If that's the case, it might be hard for him to give proper time and attention to both a head coaching role and the expansion bid. I have no idea if this is the case, just something I've thought about since Garber mentioned San Diego a couple months ago.

I guess when AJ signed with the Galaxy, he really did sign up to work for the Galaxy! Seriously, though, it looks like they were hard up for players willing to do this Vietnam trip based on who is going. Other than Araujo, it's not exactly our all stars. Do all those fans know Beckham is no longer on the team? Representing @LAGalaxy and @Herbalife here in Vietnam. What an amazing experience. I'm just happy that such a kind and good person is willingly joining/working with the "seen better days" Galaxy with its 2.0 FO/staff/team structure and mentality. Really cool it wasn't just a nice gesture and PR thing only. Hope he stays involved. AJDLG was always approachable and down to earth. class act.
Rumor that Donovan and San Diego Loyal will be moving to MLS. I have no idea if it has any legs (MLS Commissioner would NOT be the person to approve such a move), but it would explain Donovan's move from coach to the front office (since he would be busy as co-owner) and the fact that they are moving to San Diego State's new stadium would give them suitable space. Landon Donovan's San Diego Loyal will go to the MLS in 2024, coming from the USL. Been told MLS commissioner has approved it. The first step in getting any compensation for the Grandsir deal (where the Galaxy have an "undisclosed sell-on fee") is Grandsir actually playing for Le Havre. So, mission accomplished. 1621595603674484736 is not a valid tweet id
Two of the one-time most promising young products of the Galaxy Academy system are already alumni reduced to doing promotional appearances for kids who have no idea who they are or their connection to the Galaxy (and this is also a perfect place for Chris Klein to make a public appearance with minimal risk of backlash) NEWS: President Chris Klein, LA Galaxy Alumni Bradford Jamieson IV, Bryan Jordan and Jose Villarreal will join the Mayor of Pasadena Victor Gordo and John Muir High School Boy’s and Girl’s Soccer Teams to Host Soccer Clinic at John Muir High School in Pasadena today#LAGalaxy— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) February 3, 2023
That seems like a weird event. It's been years since those guys have been with the club and aren't they at different clubs currently? Like, if the idea is to show off the academy products, this seems like it would do the opposite. I'm confused.
I think all of them are out of football. Villarreal played with LA Force in NISA and then moved to Central Valley Fuego in USL League One last summer, but, at 29, he may be done. BJ has been without a club since Dec. of 2021.
I mean that's much worse. "Join the LA Galaxy academy TODAY and you too could be spending your prime soccer years visiting high schools with the club president! We promised these guys all the Little Caesar's they can eat after this event! The life of a soccer star!"
