Looking like this is the first and last 32 team World Cup with no 9-point maximum leaders.

Seeing that Cameroon player taking off his shirt and giving Cameroon their first world cup win in decades was epic.

    And against Brazil too.

    You just jinxed us.

We will find a way to make the WCQ a dramatic experience.

I have to say that match had some of the worst defending I've ever seen. Like on each Dutch goal they had a free attempt on goal with barely any challenges.

These kids have to learn and improve awareness as they could have better challenged the Dutch if they used common sense.

Holland never really left 2nd gear, it was a perfect LVG game as expected. Denzel Dumfries was incredible this game, what a tank of a player.

Both US backs were awful and Netherlands abused them. Dumfries had a great game but the opposition gave him a yuuuge hand.

    Very lopsided games today.

I imagine Dest made the right choice switching to the US, not a chance in hell of him starting over Dumfries

Brazil in the first half today looked like Brazil. Wow!!! Dominant. Korea isn't that bad either.

I'm waiting for one of the favorites to fall but nothing so far. Spain or Portugal tomorrow? They'll probably both win.

As for Jesurun, what an idiot. It pains us that he was reelected with qualification not assured. Clueless idiot man. He does annoy me.

Most of this round's matches have been predictable, even if they were a little closer than expected (Netherlands, Argentina). There's a gap in quality between the contenders and the rest. The only even match was Japan-Croatia, because the Asians are up and coming while the 2018 runner-ups are declining; Croatia will be a tough match for Brazil because they know how to survive tight games.

I think today's games will be entertaining, because both underdogs are good enough to really bother the favorites. I think Spain will prevail but Switzerland may be able to frustrate Portugal.

Did anyone catch the Croatia-Japan game on peacock? I had it on while working yesterday and all of a sudden I hear the commentators mid game talking about Borre for a solid minute

What was up with that LOL!

These quarter final matches look very promising! Today was far from boring even Spain vs Morocco.

Spain was pathetic, all that passing and possession but are unable to create goals or even shots. According to FotMob, they only created 4 big chances (vs. Morocco's 1) and of those, 2 came from Sarabia, who played for less than 5 minutes. IOW, in 115+ minutes they had 2 real chances.

If you feel like it, watch Mr. Chip's airing of grievances:

LOL. I didn't want to say it but it crossed my mind. That was the sweetness of Pekerman's teams, that although they will try to keep possession, they had an intentionality and a change of gears that was unlike Colombia from 1998-2010. Colombia from 1990 and 1994 had some of that but mostly because of Valderrama's masterful field vision.

not just national teams but even colombian club teams. Colombians are obsessed with that mentality. The meaningless passing, its meaningless because most of the time teams get carried away with it and think they can solve everything by just slowly passing for 90 minutes but all the opposition has to do is bunker down and its over. The passing works but only when fused with verticality and a change of pace. You cannot just endlessly pass forever. You combine the endless passing with colombians love of wasting goals and its over.
