But what about if a keeper is on the ground and a player shoots it towards goal, and a defender handles it, and it's not certain whether or not the keeper can get to that ball? Where would the line be? It's too subjective to say "oh yes they definitely would have scored."
Jesus JP sounds like he's reading a news article, not announcing a dramatic group finish. Uruguay sore as always.
Again, figure it out. That's a lame argument "Ooh, we would have to think about it, so we have to have an obvious and glaring problem in the rules" Did the keeper get to the ball? No. Goal. Here's a clue: Keep your hands to yourself.
Too bad for Uruguay...Congrats, Korea!...More red cards for Portugal players for arguing with the ref!
Wow, the players following the refs down the tunnel! I missed this match, are Uruguay just mad about losing or was there more "missed" calls then Cavani's dive?
A red and PK is sufficient punishment in my eyes. As a referee I am very hesitant to grant a goal when the ball doesn't even cross the line. We wouldn't even be talking about this if Gyan hadn't choked.
Brazil the only team that can finish with a 100% record in the group (and I suspect they will). I wonder if it's happened that zero or one squad have done that before.
Deuce is sympathetic to the striker and thinks that was a foul / pen on Cavanni. I get it, there was a coming-together of the legs, but Cavanni clearly slowed down to initiate the contact and was looking for that kind of tangle. It would've been so so harsh to give that as a pen.
As a referee, I think that's entirely inadequate. It creates a nearly consequenceless loophole to be exploited. Referees judge the relative timing and positions of balls and players many many times over and over in a game. Refresh your understanding of touchlines and offside, for example.
Dempsey thought that was a pk for Cavani - if he means at the end of the game, he crazy. Cava I was diving before he stuck his leg in the path of the defender.
