....dangerously close to Worst Person You Know Has a Point, here, even if it is rank whataboutery. He could also be talking about one of the 2026 hosts, too.

He said: "Where are we going with our way of working, guys? Where is the world going? If you go two steps back and you look at this issue of migration and their situation of hundreds of thousands of women and men who would like to offer their services, who would like to help and give a future to their families back home, Qatar is actually offering them this opportunity.

"Hundreds of thousands of migrant workers, they help their families to survive. And they do it in a legal way. We in Europe, we close our borders and we don't allow practically any workers from these countries to work legally in our country. We all know there are many illegal workers in our European countries, living conditions which are also not really the best.

"Those who reach Europe, those who want to go to Europe, they have to go through a very difficult journey. Only a few survive. So if you would really care about the destiny of these people, these young people, then Europe could also do as Qatar did: create some legal channels where at least a number of these workers could come to Europe, lower revenues, but give them some work, give them some future, give them some hope.

"This doesn't mean that we shouldn't point that doesn't work here in Qatar as well. Of course, there are things that don't work and need to be addressed. But this moral lesson giving, one-sided, it is just hypocrisy."

And then, of course, he, as pointed out above, went Michael Scott with it. But he's not entirely wrong. 25% savant, 75% idiot.

So is anyone going to Barney's Beanery in Burbank for the USA-Wales game today? It's the closest place to where I am working this morning, so hoping to run over there...

Not me but just want to mention that I jumped on top of a table at the Barney’s Beanery in Westwood when Landon scored on Algeria.

    good times.

The United States has never won the second game of a World Cup.

The United States has never lost to England in the World Cup.

Therefore, a draw is the inevitable result on Friday.

I see the hate towards Alexi Lala’s is in full effect, which had me thinking who was the worse GM – Lalas or Klein?

Lalas more of a clown GM, sort of like a Klinsmann, all show and no substance. Klein inexperienced at first, slow, corporate, lacks inspiration and vision. They are different but both bad.

I regularly heckle lalas when I see him at a match (typically when he’s set up to do his punditry in a fan accessible area. ) I always tell him he was the worst gm in team history and he owes Pete vagenas a beer for making that a question thanks to that awful tenure.

I also ask him where he thinks he was worse, NY, SJ or LA.

I probably should stop as I’m well beyond “obnoxious young man” and turning into “deranged older geezer”.

Did anyone else think that the picture quality for the USA Wales game absolutely sucked? I watched the first half on Fox Sports streaming service and thought it was worse than Spectrum's Stream of our local Fox Channel that I switched to for the second half.

AL-RAYYAN, Qatar — Two American journalists have been told to remove rainbow-patterned articles of clothing by authorities at World Cup venues in Qatar in recent days.

On Saturday, Los Angeles Times reporter Kevin Baxter was told by a police officer at the U.S. men’s national team’s Qatari training site that a rainbow-colored mask was not allowed.

Two days later, at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, where the USMNT plays Wales on Monday night, longtime soccer journalist Grant Wahl said that he was told by security to change out of a shirt with a rainbow pattern around a soccer ball. FIFA told Yahoo Sports that the incident was a "mistake," and said it has been "sorted."

I get that you're joking, but frankly some stuff is just too awful to talk about, even as a joke. There are victims still living that remember Skjlevik.

Angel diMaria to start today for Argentina. Said it before, but we should go HARD for this guy as a replacement to Costa after the WC.

Lalas won a Cup for us as a player, so I forgive him pretty quickly. Klein won a Cup for us as GM, and I want him fired. In conclusion, my opinion should be ignored with a quickness.

Klein was the first (only?) player to do Herbalife ads while playing, unless I've forgotten someone. So he seems like the corporate shill to end all corporate shills. I'm probably being unfair, and Riqui Puig was his idea, and he pleaded against Gio Dos Santos to no avail, and AEG would probably replace him with Steve Alford or something. Fire Klein's boss, I guess, I dunno

So much for Qatar being accepting of other cultures if we respected theirs.

'As a Qatari I’m proud of what happened.
'I don’t know when will the westerners realize that their values aren’t universal. There are other cultures with different values that should be equally respected.’

So their argument boils down to an appeal for tolerance of others beliefs, unless those beliefs are different from their beliefs:

“The West should be tolerant and respect our right to be intolerant and disrespect the rights of others.”

    Makes perfect sense!

It really is telling when someone says that literally not allowing people to exist is a political disagreement that should be respected. Like outlawing people from existing is the same type of argument as what the tax percentages should be for individuals and corporations.

Finally, that stupid soccer game is over and I can watch Cal-UCLA

EDIT - a nationwide audience got a good dose of Cal Bears silliness, hope they appreciated it.

Looking at other sites, have to get this out of my system.

I like this England team, but Jesus their fans. Argentina and Germany both literally lost, but England fans are still pulling their "poor pitiful us" routine.

I love this US team, but Jesus our fans. Yeah, I guess we're underdogs against Iran because they come in to the game with a 1-0 lead and by the transitive property of Wales results. But complaining about the England result? Fine, go be an Italy fan or something.

Anyone else finding the Fox coverage a little underwhelming? There's a thread on this one the US forum with some good points, but I'm curious if anyone here had thoughts.

Besides me not liking the most freq used announcers? Otherwise it has been Ok imo. They should have done more with stats/graphics. They also flash info too quickly to digest. The showing of replays and offside virtual graphics is also inconsistent. On the positive side I loved the Tyler Adams segement - was that a Fox production?

I like Strong and Darke, I think they are great at PBP, and even JP is pretty good IMO. The color crew is a bit more uneven - some inexperienced but getting better like Landon, some just not that strong like Stu and Aly and Cobi.

I was really struck today by the lack of info from Darke and Donovan on all the permutations of Mexico's chances and the whole Group C dynamic. They were just not on top of it, and I blame their production crew. Where was the analysis of the points and the tie-breakers? It was all late and incomplete. We end up with Landon joking that his brain hurts cause he didn't graduate from HS. Really? When Saudi Arabia scored, Darke is pronouncing Mexico's doom, but he should have known that Mexico still had a chance to go through if they scored. It's not that difficult.

I'm not watching much of the features or halftimes, etc - but I'm not fond of Dempsey there. He's just not well-spoken enough.

Yeah, that sums up a lot of it. Overall, the production just feels cheap and rushed. Mostly the PBP is good, but there's no real in-depth analysis pre-, mid- or post-game. There's a lack of preparation on simple things (like the example above) or knowing certain teams / players very well to give meaningful commentary. It's cool to see the former US players, but I miss having more international commentary from, again, more seasoned and well-rounded analysts. The nightly recap show has Chad Ochocino as one of the main analysts which kinda sums up everything; the production seems very geared toward casual fans rather than serious soccer fans.
