Repped. ...and thank you for the kind correction. I don't know why I though van Gaal was their coach.
...and might I say that I am enjoying this thread very much. It's the next best thing to all of us being together in TrickHog's living room and watching the matches.
I could set up the projector and screen in the backyard at some point and host a viewing party for an evening game after it gets dark....but we'd all have to chip in for the airfare for Skydog.....
We'll know Wynalda's gone full MAGA if today he says "I told you! The US is in complete disarray! Gio is miserable! SAD!"
I'm a "take care of what's in front of you before looking ahead" type of person, but sometimes I can't help but look ahead. So at the risk of looking too far ahead,... The winner of Group C will be decided today. ...and as crazy as this would have sounded before the tournament started, Saudi Arabia could be top of the group! Here's how: Saudi Arabia defeats México Poland and Argentina play to a draw Saudi Arabia will have six points, Poland will have five, and Argentina will be eliminated with four. Here's why I'm looking a little bit ahead: Australia's next opponent is the winner of Group C. It could be Poland, Argentina, or Saudi Arabia. ...and one of those four teams would be waiting to play the winner of Holland vs. US.
Does anyone know the rational for France's goal being waived off due to off sides? The Tunisian defender clearly headed the ball which means he played it and not merely touched it. The closest I could come to a rationale was that the French player who bumped the Tunisian defender was possibly off sides and that he interfered with the effectiveness of the header.
That was one of the cruelest ends to a World Cup group stage I’ve ever seen. I’m not Mexican, don’t care about their national team, but DAAAAAMN. That was something else.
Funnier outcome: the US is the only CONCACAF team to advance, or Costa Rica knocks out Germany? (I think there's a scenario where both can happen, but I don't want to be greedy)
Saw the highlights and I didn't see where the offsides was on the first disallowed goal. Looked onside to me.
Thanks for thinking of me! I would love to come.* Actually I could have come to Trick's watch party. I was in Van Nuys all last week, watching the games with my step-sons & their families and my ex (we are friends). All except one of the wives and one child are big soccer fans. We watched almost every game, often delayed by several hours. It was a blast. *I probably don't have to mention this but I only fly first class and require a per diem. Small bills (new only) for the latter are acceptable.
I wish the last goal had not been scored against Mexico. It would have been so fitting and delicious if they failed to advance only because of yellow card accumulation!
Yep, although to be fair, Mexico gave up that late goal because they were throwing numbers up the field, desperately trying to get that third goal, since they were losing the tie-breaker to Poland on the yellow card tie-breaker at that moment... So in essence having more yellow cards still sorta lost them the tie-breaker with Poland.
Welp, another one bites the dust. Boy this Conca bunch really was underwhelming this WC. About the only team that showed something really diff were the Nucks and they went home early too. Mexico needs to lose all the old folks in that team and come up with some new material. I don't know that I put all the blame on Tata although he made his share of questionable moves. Now everybody to hang on for dear life vs the Neitherlands. The Dutch do not impress the hell out of me. They are like the English and the Dutch group was weak. Alotta huff and puff and not much to show on the pitch. We can certainly eek out one more match out this dancery.
so Tata is out and the first thing, I read was he sealed his fate when he refused to bring in the little pea and it was hinted that it was something personal and he let personal feelings dictate his actions and caused this result. I am curious to see if this is just a knee-jerk reaction to place all the blame on him, and deflect the blame from FEMEX or will they actually try to fix what they did wrong and bring in the little pea and vela at least for the next set of qualifiers
PS - We have to fly out Berks as well. And pay 1/2 of StillKickin’s airfare, her having split loyalties with ATX and all.
