They're going to have to play the NL games. I think they'd lose a lot of their good faith if they boycott/forfiet those.
If the USSF CBA deals cause our national team rivals to absolutely implode... Then that's a good reason to support the deals.
Historically, the Athletes Council has tended to vote as a bloc. I'm not entirely sure they did so in the Cordeiro-Cone election.
This is exactly what happened with Canada. Our players also forget that the CSA (while inept) doesn’t have the money that the USSF has.
This is why 90% of the population lives near the US border. They want our soccer money. You guys must be pretty depressed at the moment.
We're going to world cup for the first time since I was 3 years old. Not depressed, far from it. Canadian supporters understand the CSA sucks, it's just obvious to everyone else now.
USA women to make more from men's World Cup than 2019 win (espn.com) Women are going to make at least 3 times as much from this Cup as the one they won.
If the women had any self awareness they would be incredibly embarrassed by this. They only care about money, though, and will always get their asses kissed by the media.
That's great. It would be nice, now, if people like Carli would make a point to cut out the backhanded compliments of the men's team...
Surely, they would refuse to enrich themselves from money earned in a country that criminalizes homosexuality and in which women are not treated equal under the law in many aspects. They should refuse this blood money or donate it to women's rights organizations that focus on the Middle East. Time to take a knee, ladies.
if i am reading this right they get nothing now. the money is pooled with the 23 prize money then divied out to the men and women who make those teams. the 23 team hasn't been picked much less played much less getting any money yet. the men in turn will get their share of the women's money. should they reject their own prize money on the same principles advocated by some of you eg human rights. should they turn down women's money on some sort of capitalist principle. "i didn't win that, either?" you're telling half the story. buried behind the repackaged rhetoric is the same, defeated idea that teams should keep their own winnings even if it means men and women get paid different and we get PR flak and sued. and they spend millions of USSF dollars defending a lawsuit contrary to the charity's principles. not sure if some of you understand charity vs for profit. that there are laws against charities doing revenue sharing as that is a definitional for profit action. and, oh, btw, i remember the other argument at the time was "a deal is a deal." this is the new deal. what happened to that principle. in 2018 the women would have made nothing off the men sucking. as would the men. the men would have made some money off the women managing anything. and in 23 the story will flip. the men will maybe get a little walking around money they didn't earn. i think your real beef is the socialism of it all. it's a charity intended to promote both sexes not a business. and the underlying thing you're in denial in is the men typically have jobs with salaries dwarfing their bonus -- hence walking around money -- while this may help financially establish and encourage continued participation by elite women whose NWSL salaries may look like what a teacher makes.
What is the defeater for this idea? If you're suggesting it's the legal fineprint regarding what a non-profit can or cannot do... that's fair enough from a legal sense. It in no way defeats the argument that it's very weird that players are getting (or will be getting) awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars based specifically on the direct outcome of competitive matches that they have nothing at all to do with. It's a bad look whether it's women or men profiting in this way. Either way, the women's arguments have fallen flat since the beginning for many, many reasons. But if this is the way it must be based on USSF being a charity, technically... that's fine. That's how it has to be. Regardless, without knowing the exact specifics of how the reward money is doled out for cup success... how is it at all insidious to feel it's reasonable that the performance-related rewards would favor the people directly responsible for... the performance? It's not the men's fault, as people who are performing and achieving success in a hugely commercially event, that the public at large puts tons of money and attention into the World Cup and not the Women's World Cup.
in my experience, if they weren't embarrassed by asking for the money they sure won't feel embarrassed to take it. we should be embarrassed as society for allowing this.
I am not an expert but I have run a charity and helped another qualify for 501(c)(3) status. Can you list some of those laws so that I can read them?
There is a lot more things to be embarrassed more as a society. This barely gets on the radar of societal problems.
I read about his on some other sites (yahoo, etc) the comments were awful! Sexist and homophobic and mean! The women did not cover themselves in glory during this whole thing and not mentioning the USMNT during the PR contract signing was I thought BS and looks really bad now. I love the USWNT and always will but I believe some humility will go a long way to easing the awful rhetoric!
If the 23rd best female player makes a life changing amount of money next year because of this deal, I think I'll sleep just fine.
I'm happy for the women - but that doesn't absolve how they dragged the mens team through the mud the last few years lol
