Clearly, no Chicago Fire players were involved in either game, because: NOTHING Stupid happened. I do, but that's only because I SAW a 1-0 final.
I've been quite busy but figured I'd pop back in here now that the USMNT has squeaked outta the group stage. It finished EXACTLY about how I thought it would before it happened (England top, USMNT 2nd) but it sure did take an entirely different road to get to the same place. Anyway, just like a lot of these TV pundits I too am asking WHERE is Gio Reyna? Also Berhalter pulled a card out of the Fire playbook being, why go for the kill shot when you can pull offensive players out for defensive ones and bunker for a loss? Any gray hairs we may have are a direct result of turning the last 25 minutes into a shooting gallery as the blue team PANICKED and just kept kicking it out back to Iran. UGLY win but I guess "results motherf**ker" right? OH, Pulisic...No guts no glory and the glory is his even if he might never have children again. Nevertheless, we salute ye!
I’m hoping for a Tunisia win and then an even bigger Denmark win. France is already though, unfortunately. And while I like underdogs, Denmark has just been too much fun to watch. I hope they can make it through.
Mexico/Saudi Arabia Argentina/Poland All four teams can still advance. The top two teams are not safe.
It’s a bit of a long shot but the winner of USA/Netherlands could theoretically play the winner of Australia/Mexico(TBD). It could still be any one of the four teams in Group C but C2 will play Australia.
Poland game on Fox Mexico game on FS1 Both in Spanish on Peacock and Telemundo Halftime for Poland-Argentina. Mexico-Saudi Arabia going several minutes longer. Interesting at the end, since it is likely (although not definite, with the screwy extra time) that Poland-Argentina may end earlier than Mexico-Saudi Arabia.
It is a shame Denmark are out. I was not able to watch the early matches, but I have them recorded. Glad to see France humbled. All I caught was the ridiculous amount of extra time and the tying goal called back.
That Lewandowski missed penalty against Mexico is looking huge. He scores that, Poland are on six points and through, regardless of what happens today. As it is, it will be a nervous 45 minutes for all four teams.
And not in a good way. Right now it is not looking good for Poland. They are being thoroughly outplayed by Argentina. Mexico seems to be running Saudi Arabia ragged. Either Poland or Saudi Arabia have to score to guarantee that Poland go through. Neither seems very likely, unfortunately. If they hang on as it is, they are still through.
The Saudi's are crap. Poland better pull a goal out of their ass somewhere, because Mexico has another in them. AND THERE IT IS!!! or isn't.
Saudi Arabia are crap, but....!!!!!! They have basically assured that Mexico is going home. I read that Argentina are one of only three teams to lose their first game and then win the group.
