Tons of reasons, MLS is boring, MLS is the retirement league, all the big players are in Europe, U.S WC qualifying is a freaking joke and when they do qualify the fans think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then you got players like Pulishit spewing nonsense like "it's called soccer", it's this type of mentality that generates hatred towards U.S "soccer". It's a combination of the arrogance and lack of entertainment here in the MLS why people choose other countries, know your place and don't over embellish, accept what you are, a mediocre team with a +1 GD in the knockout stages. Let's be real. I forget who the player was in 2006 who said "this is war" or some shit like that for the upcoming match against Italy and Italy was bewildered wondering why someone would say such thing. Yeah "war" got you far in that tournament right? My dislike started right then and there for the U.S. NT
First of all, MLS is far from an easy retirement league. If it were this easy pub circuit you say it is, then all the superstars that come over would excel and usually, they struggle more often than not. Higuain was benched 5 months ago , then came back , scored some goals and quit at 34 years of age because he couldn't handle it any longer. I'd just love to see half of the Serie A team come over, play on turf, in the hot summer months and travel 2000 miles form coast to cast. Let's see what level they play . Also, the league has grown from 10 clubs in 2004 to 29 in 2023. Each club is also now worth form $500-$800 million dollars and they all mostly own and control their own stadium. I lived in Italy and even worked at Fiorentina so no team can boast this. The only team that can make this claim in Italy is Juventus. Secondly, MLS as a league was not really even represented yesterday as all of the US starters play in Europe. Two in Italy, one in Spain, the rest play in England. There were two MLS players who came in the second half I believe at the end. No one said they are superstars. What about not beating Sweden or North Macedonia? They aren't even Serie B quality and Italy , the European champions they are can't even beat them! Also, who freaking cares if it’s called soccer or football? No one cares about this! Also, even if Pulisic is this crap player you say he is, he scored and would have had a game winner against England if his shot didn't hit the crossbar. I don't read about any other crap players playing in the tournament but of course, only the Americans are crap. there are so many crap teams and players playing it's not even funny! I'm watching Australia right now and they are leading but I have no diea who they are. Where or on what teams are their players playing? Are they on Chelsea or Milan? I don't see this great skill. The arrogance in my opinion comes from the European snobbery thinking their leagues , national teams and players always have to win , be the best and not wanting anyone else to succeed. Another excuse. That quote was from 16 years ago coming from Eddie Johnson but he didn't mean it like that at all! He was not talking about an actual 'war' but about a battle between two teams! When talking about sports in America, everyone uses the term 'war' and you can't go by the literal translation. That term is used in American Football, Wrestling , Basketball and even track but in all kinds of other sports. It has been going on for as long as I remember but has nothing to do with an actual war. Our PE coaches used the term in Jr High School and anyone who grew up in North America , playing sports knows this. If these are the only excuses on why fans hate American soccer/football , it only proves the bias and/or fear that exists in not wanting the sport to make it big in North America.
If France actually played only real french players they wouldn't even qualify for a tournament. Giroud and Rabiot are the only real french players on the team
Which world renowned superstars can anyone name on Australia and Tunisia? Could they play in Serie A, B or C?
I have no problem being called a retard. I came here because this forum was the first return from google when I searched "Italy National team Forum" several years ago. If I got kicked out of here for not supporting the US, I would just get a great laugh out of it and move on. Also, I am not saying others can't root for the US. I personally find them insufferable. I always have. It's not an opinion I formulated overnight. Ever since my first World cup '90, I've never wanted them to succeed. Others can root for them and enjoy my misery when it happens. I'm good with that. But I definitely root for the world over the US, even Serbia (ew...)
technically we should all root for Argentina as a surrogate national team. 62.5% of Argentina is italian compared to 6% of the US.
If I wanted to cheer for the U.S I'd be in the U.S forum not the Italian one. Doesn't matter where you're from, this isn't a U.S only message board lol I don't cheer for the U.S NT never have, never will, not a fan of their "soccer" and I never will be. It'll always be the farmers retirement league that gets laughed at by the world. And yes I currently live in the U.S, even proudly served in the military, I will always support the U.S in everything but soccer. Cheers.
Again, I'm Italian but I cheer for both teams. I don't hate one over the other and I've been cheering for both teams my entire life. Italy though, doesn't even have a team participating that anyne can be proud of. Top Italian teams can’t even field 3 Italian born players and then everyone wonders why they can’t make the World Cup! What Italy and the entire federation has managed to accompish is make a disgrace of the Serie A, and of the national team.
How about Thiago Almada coming in for Argentina! He was born on April 26th, 2001 (age 21) and is playing for old 'retirement league' MLS Atlanta United! Level Of League ( LOL)!
Haha Saudi Arabia only existed to preserve the unbeaten record! By the way, I'm not bashing MLS. I'm a Columbus Crew supporter since 1996. I just literally don't like the US National Team haha.
