I'll probably catch a lot of flack for this, but I think Matan would fit better into that spot than Diaz (if Matan is still with the team). In fact, switching to that type of formation may push Diaz out. He's really a true winger, he's not a hitter to play striker and he doesn't have the ball skills to be more central.

Crew 2 rotated the defense a lot including in game. I think Malou played mostly CB, but Stratchan and Quinton were first choice.Jake Morris played as a FB. Farsi was at FB and LW. Arace wrote a day or two ago that the team has narrowed the search to two guys, and said that either one was completely OK with them. Now in fact Nancy just hired the most dreaded hardass agent in soccer, Ron Waxman. I wonder if they're playing a game of chicken. Nancy wants out and Waxman will be demanding big money. At some point, if negotiations stall, Nancy will be stuck working for Joey Saputo for another year at $180k. Maybe they're trying to nudge him a little. Just wild ass speculation.
RB/CB. He could easily play RCB in a 3 back setup. Though a bit on the small side for in the middle or a CB in a 4 back.
You are correct. I was just looking for a spot Diaz could play. 3421 he would definitely play the position differently that Lucas/Matan, for sure. He could also play WB or up top. 3421 cam morph into 352 pretty easily with the right subs.
Diaz as a wingback in a no thanks from me, barring last 10 minute miracle kitchen sink stuff. We have Moreira who can play that role, and Farsi did it for Courtois already with Crew 2, that’s the perfect spot for him.

I tend to agree to start the game. But if we need goals late, those WBs need to be less FBs and more midfielders. You could play Diaz on the left. He can't cross well anyway, so you are not losing anything in that department. In terms of needs: 1) LWB/FB (starter & reserve) 2) CB depth (Crew2 guys in play) 3) CAM depth (behind LZ/Molino) 4) CM depth (behind Nagbe) 5) Wide attacking playmaker/speed
