The “they win in spite of him” posters are rampant all over the web today.. Me and my heart condition may not always agree with the gameplan but deserves credit for the culture hes instilled whether its fighting for him or each other… hes harnessed the player talent and put them in positions to compete.

Im honestly curious to see charts and data for the amount of terrain covered for players and teams… Are we seeing any similar or superior work rates from other teams?

Morris didn't have time to do much of anything and the little he did was ineffectual. I hated the sub so it magnified for me when he did little in his tiny moments, but in fairness, he was in for what, 8 or 9 minutes, got like 1 or 2 touches. Morris or preferably Reyna needed to come on 20 minutes earlier when it first became obvious Weah's work rate on the defensive end was flagging and we were losing shape out there. The lack of the sub was the bigger issue than the specific sub, but i didn't like either aspect (how late it was and who it was).

chandler is a better crosser than yedlin, moore jedi and dest.....if the strategy is a kazillion crosses a game from the flank, he's surely a better option than moore or yedlin ...and its not close.

and he's still getting minutes for a champions league team in 2022...so I dont see what is so troll about suggesting that he's a better option than Moore...who just may be the worst US player in WC history from what I have seen so far...and THAT is saying smething

The report is now 'pelvic contusion', which sounds like a very vague diagnosis according to Dr Google.

theyre discussing how there were “pauses” all over the US for folks to watch the game yesterday.. My daughter sent me a pic of her classroom all on pins and needles watching the game.. Its great… the first time I noticed it was 2014, our unit created windows of time to allow us to watch matches… match day fan experience just grows and grows

yeah...its nothing to take for granted, sure. but usa has made it out of the group in 4 of last 5 WC qualified for....so 80% is about right imo...

seems a lot of people are treating it like it long shot or something.....

and I feel it from the players in the team as well....a little bit of lack of belief etc....like they dont realize how good they are on the inside

theres no such thing as a reasonable critic on bs because the other side wont recognize it.

how many posts do we see from the most dyed-in-the-wool berhalter lovers that go from "we won again, haters, all of you hoping we lose...." to "did berhalter get everything exactly right? of course not. could <this sub> or <this change> have helped sure. but ultimately we got the result."

    pretty common, right?

but any poster who talks about even the possibility of things that could have been done, or could be, differently, or using different guys without first showing fealty to the great and powerful gregg is lumped in with the most extreme, nutso positions possible.

the idea that reyna could bring possession (that is just as viable as more defense) late is "reyna must start".

    why is that?

because its not about criticism, its about being right and wanting everyone else to say youre right, and apologizing for ever disagreeing in the first place...when theres not one "right" in the first place.

all due respct, but f off. i dont hate berhalter, i barely care about berhalter. his managment frustrates the hell out of me.

what i hate is the berhalter defenders union on bs. you dont have to join greggs fan club to enjoy our national teams success, and you can disagree with any number of things he does without wanting us to lose or whatever ridiculous nonsense people come up with. you can even think that while results are ultimarely what matter- and hes unquestionably gotten results- the results can still be better.

i want a different manager, thats no secret nor should it be. gregg will leave huge shoes to fill in terms of building a defensive foundation that far outplays its individual parts, about half as much credit as some give for "recruiting" dual nats and having his teams play together and for each other. but i think there is a world of improvement available in terms of in-game management and utilizing our offensive players, who i feel just as regularly as our defense overperforms, the offense falls far short of the players/ability we have.

and that makes me an irrational berhalter hater. thats fine by me.

heres what i dont do- i dont paint our players as malcontents, uncommitted, selfish. do i think shaq moore should be in the team? no. do i make up- out of thin air- stories that he refuses callups if hes not assured of starts? or call him an arrogant prick?

but thats fair game, apparently, in defending every choice berhalter makes. just think about that before you reflexively deny it.

the idea that reyna cant play a role off the bench for this team is going to age about as well as the thousands of posts about hero ball, how selfish pulisic is, hes not a team player, etc. excellencys clown show aside weston isnt treated much better.

so if its time to ban me then ban me. there is plenty of reasonable criticsm here, i count myself as one who fits that bill. theres never going to a concensus, but are my takes on the game a problem? does anyone want to argue that i dont know what im talking about, coke-or-pepsi bs aside?

its the other side that makes any criticsm out to be extreme; to be hating, to being bad fans, americans, humans, whatever.

fair enough.....but I can assure you that I am not just "hating to hate"...if the coach pulls the right strings and the team loses...i'm not going to be perpetually in the critical of the coach crowd....I just have legitimately been so dissappointed with US coaching for decades.

maybe it seems like I am only nitpicking and waiting for any small mistake to pounce on but it doesnt feel like that for me - the current coach is making obvious errors that were clear if he was paying attention over the course of the cycle - like playing acosta as an 8. he simply isnt good enough there...and there are a plethora of other options in the pool, for just one example.

and youre right we dont have all of the info....but we do have enough to know some things......

i'll be the first to praise a good coach,,,,,as soon as that day arrives.

Very well said. Disagreement over these kinds of things shouldn’t get personal or be so upsetting.

    The US goal from above...

(why can't Fox and ESPN and the rest do this sort of visual analysis for soccer goals as they do for every Jacksonville Jaguars play?)

I think you had to draw a collective conclusion of the US fan base on Berhalter in this tournament it would be

Good on game plan and managing tactics in the game

    Average to poor on subs

One thing I saw from a US player is that Berhalter and coaches had Pulisic’s exact goal pre-planned. Like it they had it as part of their game plan, which I thought was extraordinary upon reading because I didn’t think you could really do that in this sport effectively.

Am I wrong in thinking that Fox pays FIFA for access to all the camera feeds, but produces its own broadcast based on the instructions from a Fox producer? Like, the problem isn't with the production teams at the matches, its with the production teams turning it into a "Fox Sports" production?

I don't want Shaq playing over Scally, and I would have preferred if he wasn't on the team at all. But have you watched Chandler lately? Still hits a good cross, but he'd be the slowest player on our team by a margin, and is virtually stationary compared to vintage Chandler.

Cannot state this strongly enough. In the first half against Iran ( # 20 in the World) we sliced through their midfield with ease. And in the previous game went toe-to-toe against an English midfield that arguably is at least top 10 in the World, and bested them. Speed, strength, skill, field awareness, stamina, heart...all they lack is size...but they sure play big.

If they pre-planned that goal, why didn't they plan a second one? Seems the obvious coaching move.

Likewise, one can be happy about what the team has accomplished without being scolded about having minimal expectations and not understanding the game. I get people want to criticize without being hammered, but I’ve seen a lot of attempts to police positivity as well.

I really like that thinking. IMHO the offside law or interpretation is very ripe for revision. I also can't stand the subjective bit about "influencing play". I'd much rather go retro and say "if a person is offside, they're offside".

Great to hear and an excellent point... In the end, in an absolute sense, why should we truly care what other countries think, right?

Our success will depend on how WE as a country perceive the sport. That's where the meaningful change comes from. When soccer becomes a bigger part of our sporting culture, we will field better players and teams.

That said, I like that Gregg has been overt in his desire to shift perceptions through results. And he and the team have gotten them. Credit to the team and coach.

Without going back and quoting, I've seen Berhalter's decisions described as "criminal" by two different posters over two different players.

I'd love to hear the name of the coach who would make us favorites against the Netherlands.

Nice! For one or more reasons I missed a lot of those at the time. 2-3 times he hit those long high diagonals to the RW... pure confidence and execution.

When these compilation videos are made, I guess it's rare that people will include the mistakes. But I found myself wondering what WM's would've been from yesterday. I suppose his pass completion rate might give a clue.

then go reply to those two different posters! thats sort of my entire point.

or keep ignorantly "grading" what you think are trolling posts because people have different opinions than yours.
