    Match Details:
    • Location: Al Kohr, Qatar
    • Stadium: Al Bayt Stadium
    • Date: Thursday 1 December
    • Kick-off Time: 19:00 GMT / 14:00 ET / 11:00 PT
The game is in the same stadium as the one against Spain. Happy hunting grounds?

    Head to Head:
    • Costa Rica: 0 Wins
    • Germany: 1 Win
    • Draws: 0
This is the opener in the 2006 WM where Frings scored a screamer and Germany won 4-2. ^
    Current Form:
    • Costa Rica: WDWLW
    • Germany: LDWLD
Clearly, now is the time to find form.

    My Preferred line up:
Neuer; Kehrer, Sule, Rudiger, Raum; Gundogan, Kimmich; Gnabry, Musiala, Sane; Fullkrug.

    Qualification Scenarios:
    a) If Germany beat Costa Rica, and Japan lose to Spain, Germany will qualify automatically.
    b) If Japan draw, and Germany win, it will come down to goal difference. Currently, Japan have a one goal advantage.
    c) However, if Germany beat Costa Rica 2-0, and Japan draw 0-0, then Germany would advance by one goal. If they are level on goal difference (e.g. if Germany win 1-0), it goes down to goals scored. Currently, they are level on two goals scored each. It would then go to head-to-head — meaning Japan would qualify.

I Think Germany will take alot of confidence from the Spain game and put Costa Rica to the sword.

    ---------------------------Neuer----------------------
    Klossterman-----Rudiger---Sule---Raum
    ------------------kimmich---Gundogan------'
    Ganebry------------Musiala--------Sane---
    ---------------------------Fullkrug-----------

I expect different tactics for this game

The tournament situation vs Spain was all about not losing versus a team who play with an extra man in midfield

This is must win versus a team who will sit deep and counter.

Be interesting to see what Flick comes up with. I think the first player to come in will be Sane - he is the best attacker and would have started vs Japan if not injured. That means moving JM, which likely means going back to 2 in midfield.

Honigstein felt Flick might move Mueller to the right forward slot, to make room for Füllkrug - as Gnabry hasn't looked great.

I wish we had players that could shoot like Lahm & Frings goals in that match. I mean when did we last score a goal like that?

Ballack, Khedira, Kroos, Ginter and Goosens have all scored long range efforts.

But in the current squad I can't think of any. Perhaps Gundogan. But he isn't the sharpest at these attempts.

I believe two things need to change with the lineup:
    1. Fullkrug must start at CF. We need someone up top to anchor the attack. No, Fullkrug on paper is maybe not our most talented attacker, but it's time to ditch the idea that we can throw an extra attacking midfielder we don't have room for in the lineup up top and call it fine. Natural strikers must play striker.
    2. Klostermann must start at RB if fully match-fit. Kehrer and Sule have both been very poor at RB, and it's time to ditch the centerback-at-fullback experiment. Howedes isn't coming back, and it hasn't worked since Howedes in 2014. Even then it was not ideal. Klostermann is a real rightback that's actually solid, let's use him.

Always Germany with changes at WC, LMAO
-VAR started because of Germany vs England 2010 WC
-Whole NO ONE can miss WC final to yellow card accumulation happened because of Ballack in 2002 WC
-The whole play GS3 matches being played at same kick off happened because of Germany vs Austria 1982.

    Now
-1st ever female referees for Germany vs Costa Rica

I don't care about female refs but why do we keep getting ref from rival countries. vs Spain bias Dutch ref and now bunch of Frenchies, LOL.

    1. I thought referees had to be from a different continent than the teams playing (unless they are all from the same continent/association)?
    2. Most teams are our rivals anyway.

wouldn't say most teams are our rivals. But Dutch and French are next door neighbour rivals.

we already saw what we got with Dutch.

    also no idea about #1.

I don't think France is our rival in traditional sense. Dutch definitely it is.

I always thought the kickstart of Germany vs France rivalry was whole Toni Schumacher incident.

France had inferiority complex as we always beat them until 2016 Euro.......

So if Hansi stick with Muller, maybe it's about time to reintroduce the magic trio of Muller- Fullkrug (Klose)- Musiala (Ozil).

what I can hear from reports, many are saying the following... a three man midfield against a block team like CR probably wont be used. So yes maybe Fulkrug up top with MUller supporting him, seems the Bayern block will finally come to flourish
    Neuer
Klosterman/Sule/Rudiger /Raum - can then also form a 3CB when Raum pushes up
    Kimmich/Goretzka
Sane(Gnabry) Muller Musiala (MUsiala could also take center and Muller RW, Sane LW)
    Fulkrug

But basically 5 Bayern Block Midfield, with a CF option.

Strategy has to be - Germany has to push to get as many goals as possible in the first half, to put Spain under pressure so that they don't come with any stupid ideas like to let Japan win maybe.

Fulkrug is needed to put pressure on in the box .....

So as Germany will play a low
Block team and Germany will play similar as against Japan .

Gundo played way better as a 8 then he did as 10 against Spain .

So as we will have a similar situation I would maybe put Gundo at 8 instead of Goretzka and Musiala has to move into the 10 ….

Sane and muller of the wings supporting Fulkrug in the Center .

    Germany has to
Make sure the fight for every ball and make sure they all defend as a team.

Or else Japan - Korea - Mexico - Hungary result .

Yeah that was a comparable one to Lahm’s goal, curled in top corner with nice placement.

What I really want to see though is someone with a rocket shot like Matthaus.

Agree on Matthaus. Never seen anyone shoot so hard. That Goal against Yoguslavia 1990 world cup was a thunderbolt.
