Three academy based players Kam Chi Kin, Dai Tsz Hin and Tsang Chun Hin all signed their first professional contracts with Kitchee. I was surprised that neither Matthew Slattery and Xavier Chang were offered professional contracts as of yet by Kitchee.

Anyways, Hong Kong is set to play their second international friendly against Myanmar tomorrow at home in which I do hope Ng Wai Him and Alex Jojo get their first starts.

    Full-Time: Hong Kong Vs Myanmar - 0:0

Despite playing in front of fans for the first time since 2019 and attaining a lot of possession, the Hong Kong national team failed to replicate their first match as they faced off against Myanmar for the second tie as the two sides settle for a goalless draw.

Anderson did state that he is monitoring potential foreign players who are soon in contention for naturalisation from KC Southern's Mahama Awal and Stefan Pereira and Lee Man's Everton and may represent the national team before the AFC Asian Cup finals.

In addition, he hopes to seek and urge any Hong Kong-born players within Europe to join the national team.

Kitchee have signed former Greece international and striker Michail Malkis who will wear the no.8 shirt.

Furthermore, Maddox Kong who left KC Southern was seen training with the club is currently on-trial in which Kitchee have the option to sign him.

Kenneth Kwok is the new head coach of Sham Shui Po. He has a big job ahead of him. The players in that squad are not good enough.

In addition, Ukranian goalkeeper Oleksii Shilakotin joins Sham Shui Po on loan from Rangers.

In other news, Kitchee added Kyrgzstan international Bekzhan Sagynbaev who can play in the left wing or left back position and former KC Southern winger Maddox Kong also signed for the club after he was on trial.

Having watched all of the AFC U17 Asian Championship qualifiers that featured the Hong Kong team, their entire performance pretty much mirrors the U19 which sums up their dismal campaign.

The team narrowly lost to Kyrgzstan in their first match, but then they failed to maintain and build their form in which they suffered a heavy and surprising defeat to Laos and an even heavier defeat against Iran in their final match which was played today.

It really does make me question whether these young players recieved the right amount resources to be even be prepared for the qualifiers?

Who would thought that Hong Kong Football Club found themselves sitting on top the table at this early stage.

Absolute embarrassment to all local Hong Kong football players, as well as other clubs, that a rag-tag team of part-time players, middle aged consultants and accountants, has-been professionals, and some teens manage to lead the league.

Other teams need to step it up.

Meh, it's too early to look at the table. Besides, why not give credit to Tony Hamilton for improving this team of "part-time players, middle aged consultants and accountants, has-been professionals" over the offseason?

Wide-ranging interview with Matthew Orr on InMedia; main summary points below:
    • He wanted to leave for CLO / CSL since 2 years ago
    • Level of football in Hong Kong is too low for him; he has always found playing in Hong Kong too easy, and feels like a star player
    • Only when he left to play NCAA football in the USA did he realize he was not always the best player on the pitch
    • His main goal is to play in the CSL as soon as possible
    • He finds himself similar to Erling Haaland, in being a big, strong, agile, left-footed goalscorer
    • His physicality comes from training in rugby up until age 15

Juan Esteva is back as the manager of RCFC. Hopefully they will not concede so many goals this time but I have doubts.

After Kitchee suffered a loss against Lee Man last week, the club pounced back with goals from Ruslan Mingazov and Michail Manias to give them three points during the Hong Kong Premier League.

I do feel that Rangers should had a penalty call in the first half when Roberto seemingly handled the ball.

Jordon Brown recieved his HKSAR passport today meaning that he now qualify as a local domestic player and eligible to represent the Hong Kong national football team.

Nice to have a left back in the rotation, especially with Shinichi unavailable... but he isn't worthy of a HKNT starting spot.

More interesting to see how Oliver Gerbig would perform with the NT.

I do hope that Kitchee will find a way to give Brown more opportunities with the club. As for Gerbig, I'd say Andersen should really consider giving him a call up for the national team's future international fixtures.

There are several other players who had impressed me during this season of the Hong Kong Premier League in which I do hope they deserve a potential call up.

With the AFC Asian Cup finals now being held in Qatar in which it is more likely to be played in early 2024 to avoid the Summer Gulf heat, this should hopefully give Andersen enough time to prepare his team. Although I'm not entirely sure if Kitchee's Huang Yang and Roberto Affonso Junior will be called up considering that they will be in their 40s this year and could hang their boots up after the 2022/23 season comes to an end.

In addition, players from the likes Lee Man's Everton Camargo and Manolo Bleda, KC Southern's Stefan Pereria, Mahama Awal and Dudu should all become eligible and hopefully recieve their HKSAR passports in time, so that could give Andersen further options to ponder.

It had almost been four months since Sean Tse and Chan Siu Kwan were released and yet there is still no news on their status of whether they were able to find a club. The two will need to find a club if they really want to be a part of Andersen's plans.

Raul Baena who played a huge role in Kitchee's AFC Champions League match against Vissel Kobe departs from the club after his contract ended.

Just looking at how Saudi Arabia, Iran, South Korea and Japan performed at the WC, I will say Hong Kong is way behind them. I really hope HKFA gets all the HK players together for some good, hard training and friendly matches ahead of the Asian Cup. Otherwise we really would embarrass ourselves in 2024.

Not just them, but even though Qatar lost, they actually proved to be a pretty strong team and would crush HK probably in a real competitive match. The entire Pot 1 of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup would probably be able to punish HK 7-0 or more.

Former Hong Kong Football Club youth player Kyle Lau Ka-Kiu joins HK-U23 as the club pretty much need a striker (especially Ng Man Hei's absence.)

I don't expect Hong Kong to achieve a result against any of the teams that are in Pot 1. But since the HKFA and Jorn Andersen have the entire 2023 window ahead, they must take advantage of every friendly international fixtures available and ensure that they call upon the right players who had been in form throughout the 2022/23 season.

These are the projected rankings based on the new AFC formula. This means that HK will only send 1+1 team to AFC Cup, no teams to ACL.

Former Tai Po and R&F HK attacker Igor Satori becomes Kitchee's first winter transfer signing having previously played in Japan last season where he guided J-League 2 club Ventforet Kofu to the Emperor's Cup. He will wear the no.8 jersey which was last vacated to Michail Manias who departed from the club last week.

The club also stated that they are looking to sign another attacking midfielder/winger to their team although it is not known who the identity of the player is.

"Hong Kong’s national sports associations have been told to include ‘China’ into their official organisation names or face expulsion from the city’s Olympic Committee, a move that could result in a loss of funding and the right to take part in major competitions.

A source said the HKFA had been under pressure from sports authorities in mainland China to change its name.

Pui Kwan-kay, the HKFA chairman, said the organisation had been using its name since 1914 and as a member of international governing bodies such as Fifa and the Asian Football Confederation.

“We will need to discuss among ourselves if we need to change our organisation name,” he said. “The big trend is using Hong Kong, China after the handover, but this is a serious matter. We have to approach it with great caution.”"
