Germany is courting disaster with this high press. Spain’s youngsters can easily break through the pressures and get in behind the high line.

Those two babies for Spain have a very bright future. Their skills and vision are off the charts.

Yep. If you "come out" as Hispanic, Jew, Arab, Chinese or Black, you're toast.

I thought Herdman came off as extremely naive in their first two games. They produced chances, but looked extremely vulnerable in the back. I expected them to do a lot more bunkering, which they’ve done successfully against us in a few games.

for all of our issues in attack, I’ll take that as an issue over a weak defense every time in a cup competition. Our draws in the first two games have us in decent position going into the third game. Canada’s pretty play has them eliminated.

Last laugh, but always pathetic to start talking trash only after the fact. If you believe it, either say it first, or stow it, win or lose. Always respected the fact that Muhammad Ali said it, then did it, Joe Namath said it, then did it. Post game strutting is just weak sauce to me. Either say nothing, or say it and own it when its in doubt.

The UEFA teams know each other far too well. It tends to be cagey.

I wouldn't be surprised if Germany gets a result here. For all the possession, Spain only managed one SOG.

Or maybe saying something crass that inspires your very good opponent before the game is dumb and the best time to tell them that is after you rout them. Herdman deserved this.

Still the US should've beaten Wales so we don't have to sweat on the Iran game.

You're right, but Herdman overdid it a bit, tbh.

Speak softly and carry a big stick.

    Should have? Why?

There's a reason why we were ranked similarly. Over 90 minutes, both teams were quite even.

And Iran only beat them after a red card. The FIFA ranking got it right with us three.

Anyone who needs bulletin board material at this level to motivate has serious problems and it was tactless. Both statements can be true.

My preference too, but some don't roll that way, you get a great rep if you back it up, but eat a ---- sandwich when you can't which is why it's rare you see stuff on that scale except from truly transcendent types, which makes it kind of silly since Canada's good, but not transcendent, and Croatia just knocked France on their ---.

Actually I remember reading Teddy Roosevelt's "Speak softly and carry a big stick" is a polite transliteration of a Ghanaian saying that goes the other way, actually: "the man who has a big stick speaks softly."

And I say polite because, in the original, they don't say "big stick" but something else that you, my dear readers, can imagine.

Germany does not look particularly close to Spain’s level.
