Dude, it is the World Cup. Of course there's going to be chaos at the airport, and difficulties here and there. Relax. Good thing you didn't go to Brasil.

Edit: autocorrect replaced chaos with cars.

Does Bud really qualify as beer?

Anyone have recommendations for things to do during the day in Qatar for someone coming in the morning on a match day shuttle for the 10 PM games?

Has anyone taken the match day shuttle from Dubai already? I am on the 21st but I’m really concerned about how strict they will be with carry on baggage. I am actually not coming back to Dubai.

Other than now being forced to indulge in these international beverages now at hotels restaurants/bars/pre-match-events rather than in a stadium perimeter (which for 50 QAR per beer your money is better spent elsewhere and there's a pretty cool range of places), the main inconvenience for me when the news broke was that on many of the first few days the first match of the day (eg. a 1pm kickoff) was also a great opportunity either before/during/after to get a few. beers down in preparation for the evening match or to start your day and then go off with a bit of a buzz to the buildup towards an evening match. Plus the social aspect of meeting and mixing with everyone will just be a little different now. This is now an unexpected twist for sure!

Also everyone who arrived yesterday or today seem to complain about busy metro lines. Fingers crossed that this somehow relaxes a little (but doubt it).

Apparently so few actually fans are coming that the Qataris are disguising migrant workers as "fans" and bringing them in so that the stadiums don't look half empty....

I've talked to my sister today and have found out that she submitted her Hayya application with passport type "Travel Document" as opposed to "Normal" Does anyone know if there is anyway to fix this? Our flight to Qatar leaves on Wednesday. I have read other posts in the thread saying Hayya support has told them to try their luck at the airport, but this is not reassuring at all considering stories that people have been turned away for this reason.

I submitted my main and one other guest this morning (I managed to get 2 better seats this morning), do you think these will still be OK for resale? Still showing as on there in my history but haven't sold yet.

Log in to My Hayya, click on "Action", and then "Update Application", then make the necessary changes and click "Review and Submit". It says it could take 24-48 hours but my partner had to do it yesterday and everything was approved a few hours later. Hope this works. Check an email in your inbox called "Review this important Qatar 2022™ Entry Permit checklist" where it explains and has a video.

You basically just want everything to be correct, and also for the QR to link back to your entry permit when scanned and DOB entered (incase trouble at airport).

So the “No visa needed in Egypt” is a lie. They just charged me 25usd . They don’t accept Egyptian money.

Who said this? And as you said (more so warning for everyone else) they ONLY accept USD for visa on arrival, this is confirmed.

I’ve been so unplugged from what’s going on that I actually thought the deal with alcohol was going to be the case any way. I don’t like drinking more than a beer or two at a game so it won’t impact me, but I understand why people would be upset. As someone who’s caught a beer bath in the past when fans decided to toss their cups I guess water will be a reprieve. One thing is for sure, I get the feeling rowdy behavior is not going to be tolerated and may be dealt with harshly. Things could get interesting.

Just catching up on latest changes. This blows, changed the entire mood. I am in route and don't have an option to cancel. It sucks to be lied to.

Like it or not, there are a lot of brown people in this part of the world and not all of 'em are "migrant workers"..

Any Mexico fan interested in joining our family group to attend the Mexico/Argentina game? Have an extra Business Hospitality ticket. Not looking to sell, just don’t want it to go to waste.

Undoubtedly true....but they do all appear to be getting paid to fill stadiums and to "support" teams with which they otherwise do not have any association.

I'm from Argentina, but I will use a Mexican jersey and cheers for Mexico for that game :).

My advice in case you don't find anyone here (look for old member that are very active), check in Doha, I'm sure you will find someone who made a lot of KMs in a bicycle or something like that to get there. On the Argentinian tv sports, there is always someone doing crazy things, I'm sure you will find some one like that who can't afford a ticket at the reselling price.
