Says in this interview that he trained @ Werder Bremen in October and was supposed to go to Hoffenheim before the Covid lockdown Link to our interview with Paxten:https://t.co/o1XVqvXQAR— Keeping It Simple (@kitspod) December 21, 2020
He's in a great situation at Philly. He won't just play for the Union if he's good enough, he will be given a lot of responsibility as well under a good coach. He will also be sold for the right price at the appropriate time. If he does well, I think he should aim for a 2023 sale after the U-20 WC when he is 19/20. For now, he should concentrate on the Union and the U-20 cycle (probably getting started in the fall of 2021).
I watched a lot of his games in the USL this season and he wasn't even the best player on his team... I thought McGlynn was, despite some concerns people have over his athleticism WRT ceiling. I think going to Philly is a perfect situation for him.
The RBs are paying attention: RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg are following Philadelphia Union's Paxten Aaronson with interest, I'm told. No surprise given family pedigree/clubs.Aaronson, 18, is the brother of Salzburg star Brenden Aaronson. Scored 3 goals in 600 MLS minutes, made US U20 int'l debut in November.— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) December 28, 2021
Rumor of Frankfurt interest: Manuel Veth @ManuelVeth Sources! As suggested on @Gegenpress_Pod, #Bundesliga side Frankfurt want a new attacking midfielder and their target is #DOOP & #USMNT youth star Paxten Aaronson. A deal isn’t done yet one source pointed out as there are other options for the player. @Transfermarkt
Done deal per Bogert BREAKING: Eintracht Frankfurt and the Philadelphia Union have an agreement in place for transfer of US wonderkid Paxten Aaronson, per sources. Deal around $4m + add-ons + sell-on %.Aaronson, 19, won Golden Ball at Concacaf U20 championships. Medical + finalizing deal next week. pic.twitter.com/teTi6JVLXB— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) November 4, 2022
I'm assuming he will train with team then likely get loaned to lower league for the summer or train and be sent to MLS
Sources add: No loan back as part of the deal. Do not like him going abroad without first establishing himself in MLS. The Union is really good this year, but it’s still difficult to imagine him getting similar PT in the Bundesliga, and he really needs more.
Would’ve liked to see him go somewhere that he has a chance to actually play, and be an important part of the team. He hasn’t been able to find that in Philly, and Frankfurt is a much higher bar. Fun player to watch against youths and some flashes for Philly. Definitely talented enough to play for Frankfurt eventually, but now he’ll have to tread water for 6 months, then find a loan that’s a good fit + level, then come back to Frankfurt and work his way into the team. Very stop and go with lots of our prospects.
I think he can get be a real supersub this year. I wouldn't put too much stock in hos lack of mins for philadelphia. This will be one of those times we're we wonder why he can get bundesliga minutes but not mls minutes.
It’s low for the hype he’s been getting, but it’s a pretty big number for a 19 yo who has done very little in MLS. Not that 19 is old, but it’s about the age where you’d expect an elite player to really start contributing. I wonder if he was pushing for a move. I wouldn’t blame him given the lack of PT in Philly, but I don’t think a Bundesliga club is a good first stop. Would’ve much rather seen him at RB Salzburg or in Belgium.

It's similar to the fee & situation for Joe Scally, which worked out for all parties. Actually, Aaronson has played & showed more in MLS, + his fee is slightly lower in spite of inflation. In addition, he's an attacker as opposed to a fullback. So comparatively this is a lowball. But I guess being a year older means that much. And Philly are doing right by him by not integrating him because they didn't want to mess up a good thing. I thought the better candidate for this was Quinn Sullivan because of his German passport and he's played even less. More fits that Scally mold. And I can see him going to a BMG or Frankfurt type for 4-5 million still himself. But Philly may have chosen to move one, while clearing p.t. for the other. There was a lot more upside in holding onto them thru the 2022 WC & making them a real part of their team where they could have produced. Then they'd get around double-digits. But they prioritized ensuring they remained top title contenders. Can't blame them for that. In sport it's supposed to be your #1 goal over $. But especially given who owns teams, it often takes a back seat.
That would track more linearly. But I remember being shocked at the reported fee at the time, and I don't think that amount would generate the reaction. So maybe there were conflicting reports.
I think the shock at the time was because he was still only 16 and had to wait over a year to join BMG and was getting sold for more than 1M. He only played 4 times total for NYFC, including before and after the announced sale. In comparison to where Scally was when the transfer was announced, Paxton right now is a seasoned vet.
