this idea needs to be mainstreamed...it identifies a particular variant of bothsides that we all see all the time There needs to be a pithy name for the particular kind of Both Sides fallacy in which hypothetical misconduct by one side is used preemptively to excuse actual misconduct by another pic.twitter.com/aZUY5HNGtx— Scott Lemieux (@LemieuxLGM) October 26, 2022
Besides, so many conservatives (no stroke required) fail to speak coherently (looking at you Mr. Walker), yet they're not destroyed by any journalist.

Extremely telling that the Republican voter casually espousing lunatic conspiracy theories is described with no apparent reflection as "a moderate." https://t.co/Jfja0JLMW0— Hemry, Local Bartender (@BartenderHemry) October 23, 2022 We're in the most precarious moment for our democracy in living memory and every straight news article about it is just pure nonsense, actively obscuring the danger by pretending it's an open question whether the kooks who want to end it might have a point— Hemry, Local Bartender (@BartenderHemry) October 23, 2022
Stylized? C'mon man. The roundel and the iron cross are almost identical beside a line taken off the edges of the cross. It's the same. And no, it's not a symbol of Nazis. Its been around way before them. But yes, neo nazi's have adopted it like they have adopted so many other symbols. I just think the tweet could have been better, that is all. As far as, what Palin was thinking? She wasn't.
So you're telling me, what, that in late September there was an uptick in crime and it has been climbing since? Is that what happened? https://t.co/NnGUKSVn2H pic.twitter.com/Uy5qfqPssm— Philip Bump (@pbump) October 26, 2022
I think you are taking an artificial approach to symbolism - symbols work at a visceral, emotional level. When I see a skin head with the iron cross, it is symbolic of white power. Indeed the adoption of the symbol signals membership - that's the point. When I see the post-45 cross design on the side of a Bundeswehr panzer, it does not invoke nazism - because the symbolism in context is obviously entirely different than wandering into a kebab shop in 'kreuz with a skinhead and iron cross tattoo Palin is a white nationalist who talks about 'blood libel' - this is obviously nazi imagery, or at the least signalling of white nationalism - no different to the 'trolls' doing the white power signal in the white house briefing room .
Why don't all democratic candidates just ask at every debate, if they have them with these big lie proponents, one question. "Why are you participating in this election, participating in the debates, spending millions of dollars on advertising and voter drives, if you fundamentally believe that voting doesn't count and that some shadow organization decides what votes to count and who is gonna win? Is it because you know that voting does matter and that you have a chance of winning? If so, why are you lying?"
Do you believe Donald Trump is wrong and he lost fair and square? If you win will you support a system that disqualifies votes and supports officials picking officials and not voters?
well it's clear they're not thinking about "crime" as a discrete set of acts but "criminals" as a class of people who are criminals regardless of what they actually do. new york city is full of "criminals" so therefore it must have a higher crime rate than oklahoma https://t.co/FNjLgZXjcm— b-boy bouiebaisse (@jbouie) October 21, 2022
