Depends on if it is guaranteed or option years.

Room highest paid gk in MLS and that’s Porters fault since he does all the contracts smh

Also paid a unproven guy from Ghana 600k+ who is at age 25. Never had double digit goals in his career.

Something is wrong in the FO and it needs fixed. Needs to be more changes than just Porter

But we should remember, that just a handful of years ago, none of us would have even dared to imagined that we would one day be having conversations about overpaying players.

I, too, base my assessment of players on 180 minutes.

Sure, but we're talking about the 2020 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year here.

He was consistently wobbly coming off his line. Whiffed on a couple crosses. Had repeated poor communication with defenders when playing sweeper keeper (which is the GKs job to communicate that as he is facing the play and the defender is not). There were some other back passes that were not his fault.

And then there was the totally keystone cops level blunder in the Final with the ball at his feet.

I saw 2 games. The biggest two of the year. Schulte made 6-8 bad plays. A ton for a GK.

Maybe he was flawless the rest of the time.

But when you suck balls in the two biggest games of the year, I don't think that warrants a promotion. I sure as sh!t don't make him the starting GK. Best case scenario is is needs more seasoning.

And, just to be clear, how many starts has a healthy Molino had? No shortage of judgements on him, yes?

This is probably the best post in this thread in months.

In the 10 or so MLS NEXT Pro (ugh) matches I saw Schulte play, I thought he was solid-to-great. And, though it could mostly be due to Crew 2's general dominance, he was named Goalkeeper of the Year. That said, Schulte did have a few adventures throughout the season playing as the sweeper keeper. And he does seem really aggressive coming off his line. I'm not sure if that's something Courtois asked him to do or what, but I can forgive that, especially since he's young and learning.

Sure, having poor performances in two of the biggest games of the year ain't great, but he does have big(ish) game experience. He has come up big in those occasions, too. While I agree that he could use more seasoning (paprika, perhaps), I don't know if MLSNP is the best place for him to grow. Add in that the 2022 season was a banner year for young keepers in MLS (especially Slonina, Celentano, and Petrovic), and I'm ready to throw Schulte in the deep end.

Most of all, I'm done with Room. He's fine. He makes some spectacular saves. He falls on his butt occasionally. But I'd rather invest in the future (play your kids, dammit) than run out a guy that'll be gone in a year or two. I say all this knowing that Room is our starter all of 2023.

Kevin Molino? The 32-year-old, eight-year MLS vet with 100+ starts and over 8,000 minutes in league play? That Hot Boi? Yeah, I think we've got a good baseline to make judgements about him (a very good MLS player... when healthy). But, yeah, that's a really good comparison.

I'm just assuming we will trade Schulte to St. Louis for some gam/tam. First year team, local kid, GOTY, time to cash in.

While I certainly think he needs more paprika, I certainly would not trade him. Let him marinate for another year, then he'll hopefully be ready to take over for Room.

Is there anything you marinate in paprika?

Well, a rub is more or less a marinade only dry. And almost every rub for beef or pork has paprika. You can even use smoked paprika for some extra flavor but I'm not that wild about the taste.

Bez basically said they can wait and announce At the last minute since they would want the coaches input. But that they would still do some contracts . So what’s the latest they can announce their intentions?
