We're dominating but their GK is having a great game too.

This ref just let fouls slide in the last 10 mins

So irresponsible of the team to make him a starter, supposedly it's been going on for 2 months??

I was basically wondering the same thing. Wouldn't it make sense to just drain it or remove the tissue/sac causing the inflammation? I'm no doctor, but if the growth keeps increasing in size - do something about it. At this point, an errant elbow, head, or any crazy impact can cause some rough damage. Why risk him like that?

He had an amazing scissor kick that could have been a highlight reel finish. One of those memorable goals for the books that requires some great athleticism to accomplish, but the 1-1 with the GK that just needed a cool head/tap was the one he missed...I don't understand Enner sometimes. Cifuentes had 2 direct shots that could have gone in, but it's a testament to good goalkeeping from KSA that prevented him from getting on the score sheet.

Overall, it seems like Enner got spooked after missing the sitter and started thinking "pass" instead of "shoot. In many cases, I wouldn't mind this approach IF those who he passes to can score. Overall, Ecuador not being able to score is something that Alfaro mentioned in the press conference is something to keep an eye on. I'm guessing these guys will be doing some serious shooting and 1-1 drills in front of the goal to try and figure out what's going on.

I have been praying that we would be the thing they would be working on,we can’t go into a World Cup stage and perfom like this,we need these forwards to practice 2,3 + hours doing drills, also Pervis needs to up his centros,he’s in the premier league ffs.I m very confident of the team but we need to step it up.no more amateur mistakes ,we crossed that line already

I don’t think we are going to find a forward. Is the game against Japan our last friendly?

Wait I didn't even see the lump until you guys mentioned it. If it's not malignant he can play with it because lymph nodes don't affect your performance. But I read that he had hamstring fatigue, so hopefully it's just fatigue and not a tear.

At this point Alfaro should just train the forwards to pull defenders and let the midfielders shoot because they're more accurate than our forwards.

    If we don’t have strikers….

Why don’t we shoot it like we used to before?

You can tell that the 2010, and 2014 WCQ squads were just so well built. They were generally fearless at home, but much of that came because of experience. Reasco takes outside shots, and so does Pervis, but outside of that, we're a bit scarce on options to even try it.

Ayovi was a beast. Man, I miss those old teams even if they drove me crazy at times, too.

Some players really were about taking matters into their own hands.

He should have taken 4 FW rather than 4 GK. In our local league the only option apart from Tuka and Fidel I would look at would actually be Ronnie Carillo from El Nacional. I would love to see him in a microciclo after the WC.

I highly doubt they'd take a guy from the Serie B....no disrespect to El Nacho, but it is what it is. He'd need to make the move up to the Liga Pro for candidacy. I do agree with the 3 GK instead of 4, but the only guys I would have called up are the IDV players and they got the Sudamericana final next week.

They are on the road to promotion. It will be like Tenerio getting called up back when he was in Liga in 2nd division. For a microciclo and in terms of looking at local only talent that pretty much it. Fans and media are already asking for him same way as people are talking about Tuka getting a chance. Post wc I would actually like to see this happen. Carillo, Fidel, Cabezas, Cifuentes and maybe Tuka if still in form.

I remember these qualifiers so much.

We scored the best goal in Argentina and tied because the ref added so many bs minutes.

This team needs a limpieza lol salados.

The chemistry is on point on the passing and controlling the tempo, but we’re basically giving away the formula to beat us. Close the box (they don’t shoot from outside), and wait for pervis or hincapié to hand you a shot on a platter.

Alfaro said something during an interview a few days ago (after the tie to Saudi Arabia) which was a bit telling. I'm paraphrasing, but..."We're trying to figure out the scoring drought. You need to remember, this was a a team that was third in S.America for goals during Qualifiers...".

I did some reflecting on that point, and the conclusions I draw are much different than what el profe Alfaro is able to discern.

Ecuador played 18 games during the WCQ...
Ecuador scored 27 goals across those 18 games...
Ecuador scored 13 goals in 3 of the first 4 games...
Ecuador scored 14 goals over the last 14 games....
Ecuador's goal tally for the last 14 games was 1.

The team's scoring drought is actually indicative of a trend we've been seeing for quite some time because there's evidence that the seleccion doesn't score a lot of goals even during games where the result "counts".

It's the 63rd minute in the game against Japan, and if Ecuador manages to score 1 goal, we've hit the "average" ceiling set by the final 14 games of the WCQ (majority of the tourney). We'd need to score 2 or more to get an indication that we're really turning the corner. I don't see it as likely.
