In this context, he is pissed at Trump for interfering with his (like L Chaney) chance to make the US an authoritarian state.

Yeah, but doesn't that mean that the Cheney/Rove republicans see an opening to get back their control over the GQP?

I agree that having them running the other party is NOT that much of an improvement, but it is an improvement, and it means that at least there will not be another blatant coup attempt. Making vote harder, gerrymandering and stealing SCOTUS seats is OK for them, but I guess they draw the line at fake electors and open insurrection.

On one hand, on the other.

Trump runs a cult, and brings out the fanaticism.
Rove/Chaney/McConnell are more doing the same within the "legal" bounds of government.

When the end game is the same, who would you rather? Personally, Trump, because he is a ********ing moron.

That doesn't sound right. The Chaneys are more authoritarian than the Democrats are, but less so than Trump. Indeed, I am quite comfortable writing that Trump's level of authoritarianism bothers LIz. (Not sure about Daddy.)

I can't say she is as much a hawk as her father, but she has no issues with all kinds of discrimination from voting rights to LGBTQ+. I'm sure you noticed she is going after only Trump and not DeSantis. It's not abouts the authoritarianism, it's about Trump steeling her thunder.

Cheney, Rove and Rumsfeld almost got their way with the Junta they formed using their puppet Bush.

They just fell short because they couldn’t raise the masses of low life mouth breathers who have latched onto trump like remora and made their life worth while.

It's why Bryan Kemp is happy to steal elections from Stacy A in the acceptable conservative way, but not in the Trumpian way. It's essentially a form of 'legal' authoritarianism where you use the establishment and institutions to pervert democracy.

The way Bush ran his administration from 2001 is full of examples of it.

But they don't go so far as to just refuse to leave office when voted out.

Remember Rove believed in building a permanent conservative majority based on actual voting.

I've got the same concerns about Liz Cheney's voting record and policy orientation as you do. However, I actually do think she's making a principled stand against the anti-democratic, pro-authoritarian Republicans out there. For one thing, she's encouraging Republicans to vote for the candidates who support democratic principles, regardless of whether they are Republican, Independent, or Democrat.

    Exactly.

According to experts in authoritarianism, this is exactly the kind of coalition you need to build.

I agree it is uncomfortable, because both Cheney and Kinzinger didn't support voting rights. They see that kind of democratic backsliding as just part of the game.

Something I don't get about US lawyering is you just go on TV and tell obvious lies on the part of your client.

We know they are lies from the filings - so the Attorney must also know this ...

In my day we were taught you couldn't do this, or you could be struck off.

You can make arguments on behalf of your client, even if they are not good ones. But you can't make up "facts"

Side note, this is why search warrants say "And all associated material". While there are empty folders (there's another 40 empty folders that say they need to be returned to the DoD when the person is done with the documents), it is highly likely that the documents that are supposed to be in the folders are either in the boxes of documents that were seized in the raid, or one of the boxes/folders that NARA got on previous visits.

Of course, he also might have used them to wipe the burger grease off his hands, tore them up, and flushed them.

This is Donnie we're talking about-- "careful" is not one of his major attributes...

Should probably take him and his cronies in to custody and do an exhaustive search of all of his properties, just to make sure we recover as many of those documents as possible. We should probably do that right away, so the documents don't get further scattered into the wind.
