Sargent finally plays as a Forward and has a great day. Scored first, involved in second and forced a red card. Oh man, Sargent coming to firm would be fantastic. Throw Pepi possibly in the mix and then that is a freakin situation for Gregg to be in , picking forwards. Come on Josh I’ll be rootin for ya
With Sarge, Fereira, Pefok, and Vasquez all knocking in goals, the September CF call-up (and PT) decision just got interesting.
Most controversial omission is probably going to be a forward. I still think it’s Pefok Vasquez Jesus but Sargent had revived. A couple note from him he’s back in picture firmly
Ferreira Vazquez Pefok Sargent. Four guys performing, three roster spots... not like we have that many options. Unless Pepi/Dike/Hoppe also start scoring goals.
Looking at a nearly 9-month span starting 12/19/21 - I ran the numbers for Haji Wright, Jordan Pefok, Jesus Ferreira, Brandon Vazquez, & Jeremy Ebobisse and tallied their goals/games in domestic league/domestic cups/#USMNT. - I came up with: 80 goals/132 games— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) August 20, 2022 It would be hilarious if the position that was the biggest problem for the USMNT in World Cup qualifying (center-forward) became a position of strength at the World Cup.— Subscribe to GrantWahl.com (@GrantWahl) August 20, 2022
USMNT fans to our current forward pool of Ferreira Sargent Pefok Vazquez Wright Ebobisse (just waiting on Pepi Hoppe Dike to join the goal party) Edit: oh yeah also Balogun, and even Zardes!
Looks like he's finally picked up the physicallity of the English game. This trndfers directly into the Premier league. It took Altidore much longer to start playing physically.
If Sargent keeps his form up, then great but I'm still not right now putting him above 4 players who have been scoring pretty consistently for about a year
Playing at a level at which his team was not completely overwhelmed had been the issue for Sargent. He has done well, otherwise. He scored in Pokal matches against lower division sides. He scored during his short stint in the B2. He's scoring now. 1. Pefok 2. Ferreira 3. Vazquez 4. Sargent

Detangling the USMNT Striker Situation It’s hard to compare club soccer to international soccer, but due to lack of good data sets for the international game I’m going to have to. I pulled the shot data for MLS from 2013 to today, and compared the USMNT performances (against teams with an ELO rating of 1500 or better, roughly El Salvador quality). If the USMNT was a team, this is how they stack up against typical MLS teams. Not good! The USMNT both creates shots at a lower rate than most teams, but also creates fewer chances for strikers relative to the rest of the team. Some of that is due to how USMNT plays typically with a single striker, but that is not enough to account for the full difference.
Got almost a month before the camp but if this keeps up I'd make two comments. 1. Most importantly now we have a multiple set of options that look good. Couldn't say that even 6 weeks ago. 2. If this keeps up over the next month, Sargent is my #1 going into the camp and two friendlies.
Pefok, Ferreira, and Sarge are the three that should be called up in Sept IMO. All three need to get a decent look in a game also. By decent I mean at least a half to show what they got. I haven’t been on Pefok band wagon but it’s past time to capitulate and jump on board.
I never heard of this guy until 2 weeks, but dayum, he may be the best striker in the pool. 3 goals in 3 games with a relegation threatened Ligue 1 side is pretty darn good. I'm not big on "Last Minute Larrys", but let's get him into the September camp.
Goals are not everything. But pretty cool to see USMNT-eligible strikers currently rank high in their leagues:T-9th in BundesligaT-2nd in Championship2nd in Super LigT-3rd, T-3rd, and T-5th in MLST-3rd in Ligue 1 (would need to switch)— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) August 27, 2022
It would be really something if we have Golden Boot contenders in 4 Euro leages and we start an MLS striker. Not judging it right or wrong. But for GB"s sake it had better work.
